I can't stand this freeloader approach. They try all sorts of rhetoric to justify copyright infringement as morally acceptable...like "Well, record labels only pay their artists 10% so I want to hurt the labels" (of course, sweet FA is much better than 10%, isn't it, you stingy cunt) or "helping artists" (what, by not paying for music they've put up for sale?)
I dunno. It's not nearly as slow as iTunes (try scrolling through a large library on iTunes...pain). Nobody's forcing you to use WMP mind, you can use Foobar2000 or Winamp as well.
I use WMP myself; it's not that bad, its got a decent feature set and it's nowhere near as slow or bloated as iTunes.
MP3 is hardly an open standard either. Matter of fact, it's rather heavily patented, and Fraunhofer will kick your ass if they see you shipping it in commercial software without a license.
AAC might be more open, but technically Apple does have a monopoly position (that on digital audio purchasing and music players, one of which leverages the other...a bit like IE and Windows, IMHO).
If I had to spring for a codec, I'd choose Musepack in an instant, but until hardware support exists for it I'll stick with WMA.
And any new player that doesn't use Windows Media is a good thing.
I hate this. "Windows Media sucks"...how?
I'll doubt many here have listened to a proper WMA v9 (with WMP 10) VBR file. They'd be hard pressed to call it a shit codec.
It plays on most players out there, from no-names to big names (as opposed to iTunes' AAC, which plays on iPods and only iPods. It's a good codec, with decent hardware and software support (AmaroK (and JuK) would easily support it out of the box if Taglib's author would accept the freely available patches to deal with WMA tags).
So it might just support DRM. So does MP3. So does AAC. So what? There's nobody holding a gun to peoples' heads and telling them to use DRM. If you don't like DRM from online stores, the simple solution is to go and buy the CD. That way, you can have whatever codecs you like, DRM-free (so long as you hold down the shift key on new releases, which isn't really a big deal, is it?)!
Someone please tell me the big objection to WMA. I'm dying to know.
Just you try getting that card to work in host AP (master) mode. That (and the pisspoor Linux bridging support) is what's keeping me on Windows right now.
Although from the looks of things, FreeBSD 6 supports it. Might have to go back to beastie for a little bit...anyone got any ideas about bridging?:P
IIRC Windows Media Player uses AllMusic to look up album information. Works quite nicely (along with WMP being one of the least worst CD rippers available).
US announces to world that it wishes to be seen a small Eastern Bloc country from now on, and will so give the impression of financial hardship and military weakness from now on.
I once had a (custom coded...I lost the code a while back though) Wiki which was supposed to house a movie script (just a small camcorder, sub YouTube quality type thing). Worked quite well, I think...
If this is a communal meeting ground, why is it owned by OSDN (a for profit corporation last I checked) showing ads and completely opaque to most of its readers (who get quite frustrated when the admin's answers don't add up or when they're not present at all)?
Face it, Taco: This is a FOR PROFIT site. Once you've transformed something into a business you can't take it back or plead that it's "communal" in some way. Is it too much to expect that you make no more than one typo a week-one more than BBC News seems to make?
My Internet connection once went down, and since I NAT to the rest of the house nobody else could get online either.
So my ex tried to fix it.
End result: I came in, turned on my PC, watched the Win2K bootup screen scroll by and then wondered why the flipping fuck I had Netware on my PC, 2 different firewalls enabled and TCP/IP disabled for the LAN card.
Took about 5 minutes to fix but I never let her anywhere near my PC with admin privileges again.
Black Books and Father Ted are the funniest sitcoms in recent memory...dunno if BB has had any airings in the US yet but if not, go to your favourite torrent site^H^H online DVD store and watch some. I promise it will be the funniest thing you'll ever watch. Father Ted is equally funny.
A fucking men.

if you happen to have a ham radio or a police scanner
Because everyone has one of those...

I have an image of John Kerry dressed up as Morrissey now.
Thanks a fuckin bunch.
They once used KDE as well. KDE 2.something (ridiculously old) but still...
Because it's not like web servers record your user agent, IP address etc by default. No siree.

Well, almost.

I do detect a bit of a Breen vibe from Jimmy Wales. Except Breen didn't do porno before starting his reign of terror...
Dr Breen from Wikipedia. Yes.
I meant Half-Life 2. Although a Wikipedia game sounds fun.
When I read those, I instantly think of Dr Breen from Wikipedia.
"Dear Dr Taco,
Why do you post so many fucking dupes?
Yours sincerely,
A concerned Slashdotter.
Your question touches on many basic biological urges, such as to smash the faces in of anyone who posts stories more than once..."

My D-U-P-L-I-C-A-T-E
It gets posted today...
Ahh, ex girlfriends.

That loud whooshing sound you hear is the joke flying straight over your head.
I stopped reading CNN a while ago, now I read "1984".
I tried that once, but got a little ticked off by the lack of a sports section. Or news.
Fuck that, it's the most accurate description ever of my life. Hairstyle and all.

Hopefully this will be just as good.
GoogleTalk is available (as is Trillian, funnily enough) if you choose the add/remove programs option on that page. RealPlayer as well.
I wasn't aware you flogged cash cows. Dead horses maybe, but cows...you milk those, don't you?
