I know this comment will never get seen, but I'll bite anyways. The situation I'll give may not be quite right, because I'm writing this on the fly...
Situation:Accessing a LARGE ArrayList. This is the last time it will be needed. Due to the function that it calls during it's loop, you get an out of memory error. Here's what you might do...
for(int i=0; imyList.size(); i++)
{
iUseMemory(myList.get(i));
myList.set(i,null);
}...and voila. It helps out the memory problem. Garbage Collector is great, but can't do everything.
Yeah, really, it's not that bad. As a Java programmer, I've come to find out as long as you make sure you don't use more memory than you need (i.e. nulling variables that are no longer useful), things run fine......correction. Things run fine so long as you don't use Swing. Swing needs a serious makeover (yes I'm aware of alternatives, but Swing just looks so dang cool when it works)
..is modify some form of cancer to attack HIV. IAMAD (I am not a doctor), but it seems to me they would both attack eachother, until one was eliminated. At that point though, the survivor would be A LOT weaker than it would've been otherwise. Or it could have the same effect as anti-biotics, and make the survivors stronger...hmm...any input guys?
I have yet to RTFA, but I live in Oakland County, and know a bit about L. Brooks Patterson (parents work a bit under him). He seems to be rather excellent at finding well-off companies and individuals to fund this kind of thing. Taxes will probably not rise (L. Brooks = hardcore republican). I can't believe he's doing it, but if there's one thing this man's not, it's stupid.
Because they don't know EVERY article on Slashdot? I'm sorry, I was under the illusion these guys ate and slept as well.
And I would hardly call it systematic.
I don't mean to troll or anything, but really, who's it hurting?
I'm probably going to get modded into oblivion for saying this....
But why don't people just not read dupes? I mean, it's not really hurting you that it's there...and some of us didn't see the first one, but see the second one. It just doesn't seem worth complaining over.
Right now, I have a decent TV card on my computer (2.53 ghz P4), and no matter which codec, or progam I use for it, the recording quality is pretty shoddy. I'm afraid this might be the difference between having a processor created explicitly for recording, that devotes most of it's resources to it, and a system not created as such.
It's not quite as good if you make it (using MythTv or others). While I might be mistaken, I'm, almost positive the video encoding quality goes WAY down when done on a PC.
While I'm not exactly a security expert, I feel pretty confident saying that the DDOS attack was probably completely unrelated to the power outage...sorry SpitStatic(yes, I captialized your name so it looks better).
This patent mentions using biometric data (in conjunction w/ signature)..perhaps they shouldn't be using biometric data to authenticate for bank transactions anyways? If I don't recall, this is insecure TO THE MAX!
Is it just me, or does it seem like it would be a better idea to release this thing DURING the Christmas season, rather than directly after it? (you know, when everything else drops to clearance prices to ditch unsold Xmas stuff)
The article is slashdotted, so I can't read it. I will however say that I hope to see camcorders moving in the way of things like those handy USB thumb drives. 512mb, providing it records to an AVI file (gotta love the gorgeous compression), can record quite a bit of video/audio. I think we'll have to wait a bit though before prices are low enough. I REALLY hope this article wasn't an attempt to get the whole minidisc thing going again. That would make me cry.
Anyways, I repeat, I COULD NOT read the article, so this is all just random thoughts. (Oh how the moderation will burn)
Apparently there is if you have a Toshiba or Dell notebook, and are particularily unlucky.
On a side note, 2 (notable)recalls since June isn't bad. I'm not saying it's great, or even good. But it's not bad.
...most sites that rely on paypal (donations to stay up) don't really get donations anyways. Hard to bring a non-existant economic action to a halt;-) hehe I'm a silly goose.
This isn't liberal propaganda or anything...See, it's in the "Republicans" section...
On a side note, how the hell is this news? I mean, let's face it, the missiles they think these might've been really destined for were prolly about as close to WMDs as we're gonna get.
My windows box is compelte overkill (in theory), but I use every bit of it! Whenever a program freezes up, on a normal computer it would take a fraction of a second for that program to eat up all the available resources, but not on mine! On mine, it takes at least 5 seconds to max out.
..watching them try to enforce it. It appears that the U.S, like other countries, has still not gotten the idea it's going to be nearly impossible to legislate the internet. I have a feeling this is going to be used more as one of those charges they use when they need an excuse to do a raid, and dont have enough evidence for what they're going for.
Disagree? Lemme hear it.
Ok, well, there were 0 reasons to think the US would be dropping bombs on Iraq...but wait..we thought there were WMDs...well we KNOW there are WMDs in North Korea. And an oppresive ruler? I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure we could find some way to work that in North Korea too. The U.S has shown it doesn't need a reason.
---I know a lot of people will mod me down for being what they think of as "another slashdot liberal". If you think that, argue with me. Dont push your politics with mod points---

About as good as the chances of the RIAA surrending, and releasing all albums under their control into the public domain.
My brain said dupe, and the title disagreed...

There's no difference, commie hippie fuckwad.
Note:That wasnt't really me who posted AC up there. I just couldn't resist.
