Indeed. This past weekend I discovered that Chrome does not allow content scripts to edit page values and functions without some annoying event throwing architecture. As someone who writes a greasemonkey script to add features to/cope with annoying websites, I find this inexcusable. I think what really grinds my gears is that these scripts used to be able to work in Chrome *until* Google threw the switch for official extension support.
They've been throwing around the idea of multithreading for Firefox 4, but right now its still in contention, I think, because it has to be done right. I recall reading some dev blogs that said they'd jump ship if the team decided to expose the threads to extension developers.
I don't know about other components, but ImageLib has been optimized for SSE2. Loading pages with images will be much faster (and you have to love the support for color profiles).
I'd think that it would be easier to get *nix running on the new iMacs than Windows, if only because one has the ability to modify the well-documented OS, rather than suffering through messy patches and hacks.
That said, I have a greater interest in seeing Windows on an iMac (for gaming and such). Perhaps Redhat's efforts would help this happen?
In the US, requirements vary from state to state. In Pennsylvania you have the following:
You must pass a multiple choice driving theory test to get your permit
You must log 50 hours of practice behind the wheel with a guardian
You must pass a vision test
You must be able to operate all of the important controls (headlights, hazards, etc) of your car
You can then take the exam wihch involves you parking in various ways and driving around the city. They make sure you hit stop signs and places which put your judgement to the test. I think you can get 75/100 (some offenses are weighted higher. Running a stop sign is 15, iirc)
If you are under 18, and havent taken a driver's ed course, you get a Junior license which limits the hours you can spend driving. Once you turn 18 you can graduate to an unrestricted license.
I upgraded to 2.0 when they first released it a few days ago, and am thoroughly impressed with it. Sure, I'd appreciate a spellchecker (fixed with a plugin), but nothing is perfect.
My one gripe with it, though, is it's new rich text editor - TinyMCE. For some reason it refuses to load and throws an error when attempting to do so. I've documented this on my blog. I worked around this problem by, in the Admin area, going to Users, and deselecting the "Use the visual rich editor when writing" check box.
A lot of bloggers put up with the outages and rockiness because they've got an established "community" on their servers. Blogs are becoming more and more itegrated with social networking. If you were already in one with many friends, would you migrate at the drop of a hat, or would you ride it out?
I'm currently using trillian, but I'd be using gaim if it weren't for one little thing: I hate the tab scrolling that gaim/gtk uses! If I get a new message, I want to be able to see instantly who its from without clicking through the tabs.
Granted, trillian doesn't do it right either, but I like their implementation better than gaim's. So far, my favorite has to be deadAIM's tab implementation (adds new rows of tabs).
I've also seen AIM triton's tabbing, and its interesting to say the least. I'm holding off on judgement until I use it some more. Damned ads.
I agree, the only blue screens Ive got were with my video card drivers when I played a certain game (CoD). Other than that, my XP install gets nice uptime. I do get the occassional render slowdowns with firefox, but other than that its pretty solid.
I do see the advantages of having two monitors, however I'm just expressing my opinion. My work machine (I do video and web editing) just got upgraded and now has 2 17 inchers. This works perfectly, as I have a large workspace, and have to use the mouse repeatedly.
Using the programs the poster mentioned, though, I feel that he can avoid using the mouse all together. This will improve his speed, not his computer's speed. Which is quicker: control + i or taking your hand off the keyboard, placing it on the mouse, moving the cursor to the Italicize button, clicking it, and returning your hand to the keyboard? Sure, dual head could work just as well with the use of keyboard shortcuts, and is really awesome for web design, but I think he'll see more improvement working on those shortcut keys than nitpicking over his two screen layout.
I agree with parent. Honestly, I'd just stick to one monitor for what you do. I'd put email on one desktop, shell on another, and so on, then assign hotkeys to switch between desktops. (window + 1 would bring up the shell, + 2 brings up email, etc.)
A lot of time is lost when you switch between keyboard and mouse.
And, other than a popup notifier for email, try and avoid widgets. You should try and keep your workspace as simple as possible.
I've seen people say the controller is wireless, but in this picture I see four usb ports where controller ports would normally be. This leads me to believe that the new controllers will be usb2.0. It could be for peripherals, but that's an awkward way of laying them out (rather than vertically stacking two ports at a time).
If it is for controllers, does that mean there'll be PC support for them?
Also I would only recommend the graphical installer for people who have used gentoo before, because there's nothing like doing a stage 1 install to get you acquainted with your system and linux in general.
Mentioning that you work/have worked for Microsoft on Slashdot is one of the quickest ways to a flaming.

I'm running the official 5.0 on my Storm 9530 w/BIS and still have the same 4 search providers.
Any chance that Verizon accidentally pushed a malformed service book?

They've had that fixed in the Betas for quite a while. Native widgets, even. Why don't you try out the latest beta?

Disclaimer: I use windows and *nix.

Hmm... It appears to work in IE, but I thought IE didn't support png alpha transparency? Anyone know why?
yeah, look at that:0 01.jpg

the bottom left key (barely shown in the pic) looks like it has the firefox logo.
mod parent up... I just used my last mod points on the previous article.

with regards to emerge system, you dont need to do that very often.
try this: emerge mozilla-firefox-bin
And, if you use linux to feel l33t and cool, youre using it for the wrong reasons.
It's not the 'emerge system', its portage.

"Intel Outside"
Actually, they don't. We get a certain number of 2-way minutes, and this is independent of the normal plan minutes.
Imagine the impact this will have on the porn industry........
