I would assume that the scientists built a Farady Cage around the device. All they really need to do is connect the six walls with metal, doesn't even have to be surrounded by solid metal.
There's a reason why you can't buy a hundred foot (usb, ps2, vga, etc) cable from your local computer parts store.
It's just a little thing dealing with ee. The more resistance you have (caused by long wires), the less power you will have at the end of the wire (P = IV V = IR -> P = V^2/R). Oh and you might want to throw in signal propigation degridation in there too.
Just wait untill there are gangs of partially disabled senior citizens roving around in packs forcing everyone else off the sidewalk, not caring who or what they run into and/or over.
And then there's the Segway Centar which can only lead to who knows what kind of shenanigans.
I must say that computers make good space heaters. (Especially with winter just around the corner) And while heating up the room you're in they can also entertain you, unlike most regular space heaters.
I'm running Gaim v1.0.0 under XP and I've had it crash multiple times. Also it likes to eat up all the available cpu time when focusing any of its windows (might be because i have transparency set, but it didn't do this in v0.82)
If I am unable to connect to the wireless service provided by my school whenever I have my laptop out, I feel as though I'm shut off from the rest of society. If I can't access the interent while working on my laptop, I can't get any work done. I've tried, but I always end up doing something else.

Yet you still hear about them enough in XP to know they still happen. Personally i've had about 1 per year, which is not many, but that is still a much higher frequency than other OS's
It's not a killer app. It's not even an app. One's not going to download a file and suddenly their using stateless linux. It's a different way of organizing the underlying layers that applications use.
Doesn't help when lots of words stem from different languages: German, Latin, French, Spanish. Different languages can have different ways of pluralizing an they are brought over into English along with the root word. English started out as an offshoot of German, later gained a lot of latin words when the Holy Roman Empire conquered Britania. Later the Normans from Normandy(part of France) took over and gave english 75% of it's language, just about all of the descriptive words. The root words are still Germanic based.
Here at UC Berkeley most of the public computers are windows boxes, but so heavily locked down that all you can do with them is browse the web and the library catalogues.
However in the dorm computing centers it's about 3/4 windows and 1/4 mac (cubes, G4s, or better). What i've seen though it's mostly the windows boxes that get used.
On the other hand, in the CS buildings almost all the computers are linux, with only a few rooms dedicated to windows 2000. Even the intro cs class uses SPARC workstations.

... that I would want to sign up for that. I don't think my mail server would be able to handle the strain.
Since Jupiter is the father of Venus, does that make the planets incestuous?
(And yes, Venus was considered to be very beautiful.)
I would assume, from the article, the northern hemisphere; since it talks about it and shows consellations from said hemisphere.
Amazing how easly money blinds even the best people.
what's the point? Give me a slide rule any day.

Try doing the opposite of what it talked about in the article and it might actually get you somewhere
Take your pick. :)

Not counting the cost of "buying" OS X.
Shall it walk up to your table and show off the different parts of its body for you to decide which looks best to eat and/or wear?

So following tradition: JPython becomes Jython, then JRuby becomes Juby?

you assume that he reads slashdot....
It's the greater of two evils. Either wait a few months and have finished crappy music or have unfinished crappy music right now.
