I kinda of agree with that...I work in a call center myself, for a large DSL provider, as a level 3 tech (highest level we have for customer tech support). Actually, we don't take customer calls directly, we are the higher level that agents call when they need help. In more than a year, I think I've encountered two customers who claimed to "know what they were doing and knew the problem was on our end" who actually knew what they were talking about. I don't believe most customers that say that...heck, a lot of our level 2 agents don't even know what they're doing. Maybe if the customers could take some kind of competency test to see what they know about routing, ARP, etc. Most people that call tech support *don't* know what they're doing though, and that's why they're calling.

Mighty fake looking if you're using Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox, but I could see how an IE user (especially under XP) could be fooled by it.

The Jaguar was a 16-bit system. It used the same CPU as the Genesis, Motorola 68000. It did have a 64-bit graphic processor, but 64-bit graphic processors have been around in PC's since the 486 days. The N64, while it technically had a 64-bit CPU, was a 32-bit system. The entire motherboard was 32-bit, the CPU was multiplexed. The GC and PS2 are 64-bit (the PS2 uses a CPU that's a close relative of the N64 CPU, just a higher clock speed). The PS2 does, in addition to the main CPU, have two "vector unit" coprocessors, but that doesn't make it a 128-bit system. The PS2 does not have a GPU like the GC does, it's purely a rendering accelerator. It lacks most of the features of modern GPU's, for all intents and purposes it's a really really fast Voodoo1 (it doesn't even support multitexturing, which has been a staple since the Voodoo2). There isn't anything in there that makes it a 128-bit system.

That's exactly how I feel about that movie...Highlander 2 is another case where I want to just forget it ever existed and get that 2 hours of my life back. I read an interview with Christopher Lambert once, that said Highlander 2 was *not* a sequel to Highlander, had nothing to do with the Highlander story, and that everyone should just forget it ever existed. That was awesome.

Yeah...Highlander 2 was absolutely hideous. It took everything about the original and twisted it into a hideous piece of garbage. Even Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery couldn't save that piece of trash. They really need to MST3K that. While we're on the subject of awful sequels to great movies, absolutely hideous movie is Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. The original was great, my friend tried to warn me away from the "sequel" but I didn't listen. He tried to tell me that it wasn't worth the $1.50 I spent to rent it. All I can say is...he was right and then some, that entire movie was an abomination that spat all over the original. I want that 2 hours of my life back dammit!

I have a 2004 Prius, and it does get 60mpg as long as the speeds are 45 or lower. Once you get on the highway it drops a bit, I've managed to average 55 with quite a bit of highway driving though (my drive to work is about 80% highway). I've gotten my average up over 60 before, but that's really hard to maintain. It's advertised as 60 city/51 highway/55 average though, and that's been VERY accurate for me. I doubt Ford's implementation in an SUV will be as efficient though.

  11. Re:street legal? on Can Your Car Get 1,700 MPG? · · Score: 1

There's another factor here as well. Small cars are designed to basically crumple to absorb the forces in a crash. This protects the occupants rather well. Big SUV's, being 3/4-ton or 1-ton trucks at heart, are not designed nearly as well in this manner. You're actually *more* likely to be hurt in a crash, unless it's just a minor fender bender. Not to mention how SUV's are really susceptible to rolling, etc. Whoever designed those things needs to look up the term "center of gravity". Plus, yet another factor...since SUV's are 3/4-ton or 1-ton trucks at heart (the big ones), they do NOT handle like cars at all. So you get these soccer moms who barely know how to drive an economy car getting behind the wheel of something that's just a couple steps below an 18-wheeler, not knowing how to drive it, and killing people. Yes, trucks are necessary for some things...but I think for these large SUV's, you should be required to get a CDL to drive one on public roads. That would get rid of a lot of the idiots out there, rather than giving a test based around economy cars and letting someone drive an entirely different type of vehicle that they haven't been tested on. I have a 2004 Toyota Prius now, averaging about 53mpg (granted, most of my driving to/from work is highway), and it feels very safe. Simply being maneuverable helps you out a LOT, if you know how to drive you can avoid wrecks before they happen.

Sounds similar to mine...I have a 2004 Toyota Prius hybrid. The "key" is just a transmitter, in fact you don't ever have to take it out of your pocket or even touch it to unlock and start the car. However, after being left idle for 2 days, the car's computer goes into sleep mode to conserve battery power. If that happens, the smart entry and start won't work. The key transmitter does have an actual mechanical key that can be used to unlock the door in that situation, then you place the transmitter in a slot in the dashboard (where the ignition key would be if there was one) to wake the computer back up.

For awhile, they were talking about the bits of the main CPU, now they seem to gravitate to the video chipset instead. The SNES is technically an 8-bit if you go by the CPU. It's a 65C816 which has a 16-bit address bus but an 8-bit data bus. Everything is multiplexed to 8-bit. The TG-16 was 8-bit, but had a 16-bit graphic chip. The Jaguar was 16-bit, but had a 64-bit graphic chip. The Jaguar used a 68000 (same CPU as Genesis and Neo Geo). The N64 used a 64-bit CPU, but multiplexed it to 32-bit, because the entire motherboard is 32-bit. The DC is 64-bit as well, 128-bit graphic chip, same with the PS2 and GC. The PS2's CPU is a close relative of the N64's CPU, it just has 2 vector units that run in parallel to it. The Xbox is 32-bit with a 128-bit graphic chip. It seems they mostly talk about the graphic chips today rather than the CPU.
