I started with Eon. It's got a much better Sci-Fi feel to it. The sequel Eternity is good. I think you'll find that a lot of Bear's writing has some metaphysical stuff tacked on at the ending, but Eon's pretty light on that.
1. Teen sets up Call Forwarding on their number, forwarding to a friend's non-tracked phone. 2. Teen LEAVES their tracked phone within set boundaries. 3. Teen goes where teen wants, able to intercept calls from the folks on the other phone. 4. Profit! Or at least an unlimited party region...
Get a lot of nanotubes in place, FAST, and then go back at leisure and put even more in place. Then go back and add some more. In fact, why not have a tube-laying robot in place permanently, constantly laying out new 'tube, and another one that strips out the old (possibly micro-meteoritized) tubes after a sufficient number of new ones have been installed?

What will they try to do, blow up the orbiter? Given how many airplanes terrorists have destroyed -vs- how many they haven't, even if they managed to double their efficiency for spacecraft I think their average will still be below NASA's.
