I started with Eon. It's got a much better Sci-Fi feel to it. The sequel Eternity is good. I think you'll find that a lot of Bear's writing has some metaphysical stuff tacked on at the ending, but Eon's pretty light on that.
1. Teen sets up Call Forwarding on their number, forwarding to a friend's non-tracked phone. 2. Teen LEAVES their tracked phone within set boundaries. 3. Teen goes where teen wants, able to intercept calls from the folks on the other phone. 4. Profit! Or at least an unlimited party region...
Get a lot of nanotubes in place, FAST, and then go back at leisure and put even more in place. Then go back and add some more. In fact, why not have a tube-laying robot in place permanently, constantly laying out new 'tube, and another one that strips out the old (possibly micro-meteoritized) tubes after a sufficient number of new ones have been installed?
"Sandia consultant Malcolm Haines theorizes that some unknown energy source is involved, which is providing the machine with an extra jolt of energy just as the plasma ions are beginning to slow down."
Bwah? That's the most interesting part, to me. I mean, they MUST have had that sucker plugged into a surge protector. From where did the energy appear?
What will they try to do, blow up the orbiter? Given how many airplanes terrorists have destroyed -vs- how many they haven't, even if they managed to double their efficiency for spacecraft I think their average will still be below NASA's.
... welcome to the internet. And full English comprehension. You are still steaming about the OP and not actually replying to my post, which I'm pretty sure you didn't really read.
And go watch The Princess Bride. I'm surprised your ISP let you in here without verifying you'd seen it.
If you come up to me and say, "Hey, you know a lot about computers. What computer should I get?", and I tell you to get a Mac because it will meet your needs out of the box (yes, you told me what you need to do already), and you proceed to disregard my advice and get a Windows box, then just whom, exactly, is stupid and arrogant?
Wow, run-on sentence. Short version: You keep saying those words. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.
You can already buy one from VW/Audi.
I dunno. SOMEbody needs to keep an eye on idiots or bad things can happen. Why not us?
Microsoft is a disused lavatory with no lights?
Everything else has too many buttons.
I find it entirely appropriate, if not prescient.
Crap, that's like... five years away!
Cool! I should still be alive then!
When Niven is due credit.

I'll have to buy the White Album again.
Seriously, what is the deal here?

That thing looks like one of those one-use Muppets from a musical number.
Like most /.ers, I find I waste a lot of time looking for porn. It would be nice to have all the potential 'sites roped into one basic corral!

"Let's just stay out of this one, guys."
It was a "Powerbook" long before it had a PowerPC chip.

Fox would never allow something like that to happen.
