No one sells tech they can't defeat. That would be stupid. America won't sell its latest and greatest to Israeli's even (the F22). Or to Japan, South Korea, or Britain, who are some of its hardcore alies.
Actually, it's a bit more complex than that. The US (and Canada I think) have two incompatible cellular standards in use. So they can't share, at least not with Verizon, Sprint etc. Their only option is to either buy T-mobile or two share with them, but there is the obvious problem of the arrangement possibly being better for T-mobile than it is for ATT. ATT has the cash to invest in its capacity, but no spectrum.
Windows does what it needs to do. I am not saying it is the best. I am saying it does some things well enough, and that is what matters. I am also implying that *nix and other OSes also suck in other ways. I am not denying that there are reasons, other than technical and non-suckage, that have left Windows dominant, such as abuse of monopoly and network effects (Microsoft would have become dominant anyway, so it is rather unfortunate for them that they saw the need to abuse their position because the judgment hamstrung them for more than a decade).
But if Windows didn't do at least what people need it to do, and some of what people want it to do, it would have died.
Steve Jobs never dissed his customers. Read the man's biography. Steve would personally set up computers for some of his clients. That is how customer focussed the man was.
I have thought about this many times too. But there is not upside for Apple though. Or rather, very little upside, and a lot of downside. Like it or not, Intel is miles ahead of AMD, and will likely remain so for at least the next decade. They have been caught out once, and the clawhammer hammering will not happen again. If Apple had the cash then (they didn't) that would have been the time to buy AMD.
If Apple were to buy AMD, they would probably cease to be Intel's customer, and would have slow computers, and Intel advertising the fact to anyone who will listen. They don't have a server business where clock speed is not the most important thing.
Now, I have always thought AMD should make their own PCs. I would buy an AMD branded PC/Laptop in a second. AMD needs money, and the profits in the CPU business are next to non-existent now, especially when PC builders can play them off against Intel.
People don't buy botled water because they think its better than tap water. They buy it because at times, its the only convenient way to get water if you are not at home.
Bill Gates was a typical geek. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time and became the richest person in the world.
He is obviously a somewhat talented person, but he built a company that dominates because that is the natural "steady state" for the industry he was in.
If you look at some of his opinions and comments, they would not have been out of place had they been made by cmdrtaco. He just happened to be a billionaire making those pronouncements and so he happened to have a large audience.

Once Microsoft got Windows 95 out the door, and once that became a success, their dominance of the PC industry was assured. They would have had to be extremely incompetent to not dominate, and they nearly managed it.
One may have many criticisms of Jobs and Apple, but every customer of Job's Apple or Pixar made a choice to buy the product because it appealed to them.
No it isn't. At least not if the song you want is available on any major store. Downloading a song onto my iPhone consists of:
- Open the iTunes app
- Search for song
- Hit buy
- Enter password
Pirating music usually involves doing a Google search, a torrent site of some sort, and the availability is not assured, dud files aplenty.
Well, AAC works in almost any player too! Put it this way, any Android phone plays AAC, All Apple devices play AAC, and pretty much any player that isn't some ridiculously cheap Chinese knockoff plays AAC. Any player from any CE company you would recognise plays AAC.
Copyrighted works are a special case. That is why there is a copyright law.
You are guilty of copyright infringement if you create copies to sell without the permission of the copyright owner. So, unless your digital download comes with an agreement allowing you to do so from the copyright holder, or their representative, you cannot create copies to sell, even if you would then immediately delete all copies you previously had.
The copyright infringement does not occur because you fail to delete your copy. The copyright infringement happens when you create a copy to distribute without the permission of the policyholder. The fact that you only want to sell one copy is irrelevant.
Publishers are allowed to make copies (hint - copyright). So if you can figure out a way to sell your digital "copies" without creating another copy to sell, then go ahead. Otherwise any competent court will throw this one out. At least until copyright is changed.
Sell to someone big. Like Apple. seriously, if the tech is that good, Apple will want it, and will pay for it. That 80bn cash pile that Apple has built up is good for something.
Samsung has a competing display tech, so probably won't be interested.
They have a workable business model in which they do not allow you to resell your music. You are trying to get them to come up with a business model that suits your purposes and asking them to find ways to cater to your whims. You are the one who needs to come up with a workable business model. As far as we can see, allowing people to resell music violates copyright, because you do not have the right to create new copies to sell. Reselling digital music necessarily involves creating new copies of the media. So you need to first find a way around that for your business model to begin to be workable.
The problem is that there is no cost to the one who isn't creating the content. So no, the black market isn't forming t provide the products at their actual costs. Black markets are forming because in this case, the replication costs are such a small component of the actual production costs. So it is almost better for one to not produce and take the risk that people may not like your product, and just sell copies of the successful products that already exist.
It's still pilot error if the pilots hadn't been adequately trained. The blame however, might rest elsewhere.
It was the worst crash ever _at_ _the_ _time_. Says so in the post.
God forbid that people ever be inconvenienced!
What are they going to do, kill him?
It is running the latest update.

So maybe it doesn't suck as much as you think. And maybe *nix sucks more than you think. Just saying.
My first language is completely gender neutral. Still lots of sexism where I come from.
Having gender specific pronouns allows for nuance in the English language.
You need to change your job.

I wouldn't mind getting 7c for each email I receive.
