I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Comedian/Talk show host Johnny Carson was found dead in his California home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to NBC. Truly an American icon.
Apparently the ideas of customer support, frequent security updates, and a professional development team are completely lost on the Slashdot If-its-not-free-its-not-for-me tin-foil-hat crowd.
Windows 2003 is the best server I've ever had the pleasure of administering. And yes, I've had plenty of experience with both Linux and FreeBSD. Win2k3 beats them all in performance, price, and maintainability.
You speak the truth, and this is very promising for gasoline consumption in the US.
However I think ideally we'd (we being those that choose not to drive SUVs) want these people to switch to hybrid sedans and coupes to lower it even further. This is why I think it's good that you can get a tax credit for buying a hybrid car.
The next step is letting them in the carpool lane (they already do this in California). Because of all this, my next car is going to be a hybrid.
Mercury WinRunner is actually designed around the concept of having an object map.
Our dept. was considering switching to that product from Robot (due to pressure from the Corp office, WinRunner is cheaper), and one of my co-workers and I designed this little tool that goes through the dB tables our software is designed around, and automaps all the objects in the system. At this point, it was stored on a central server, so anyone writing a new script could just look up the object names in the list pertaining to the component they were testing.
It turned out to be pretty convenient, but not convenient enough to spare us from having to teach all of these thick analysts a new scripting language;)
How come the Olympics isn't available on pay-per-view? NBC could broadcast the same crappy coverage as always, but make full coverage available on PPV.
That way if you could pick and choose the sports you want to watch with full coverage.
Now I know who has signed me up for all those spam lists. I've had my soemone@somewhere.com email address for 9 years and lately over 99% of the email I receive is spam. But don't worry, I know who you are now and I will spend the rest of my days signing you up for every email list that I can find.
Thanks a lot for ruining my email address. You are no better than any spammer.
I hate Verisign as much as the average/.er for their SiteFinder shannanigans, however we must recognize when they do the right thing.
Anyone who ever need to migrate a major website to a new IP will benefit from this change.
1. Have categories of sites(or better yet use googles or someone elses directory) to suggest sites. You could use their browsing habits to determine this(encrypt these things SECURLY:)
2. Have a form filler database. Basically since different sites use different fields we can have people submit the fields for each site that would link to a secure database kind of like bugmenot does. this would be great becuase it would be foolproof and the fields would always be filled in properly!
3. Have a build in client for seti@home or something. just thought id include this for a suggestion. I think mozilla should be able to take part in these research programs:)
sincerly,
mike
p.s.: my email is mikesown [at] optonline [dot] net im posting from a bugmenot adress;)
Didn't he pay for the ticket?
This shouldn't be a crime unless he tried to distribute and profit from the copy he made. It's well within his rights to make copies of something he paid for, if it's for his personal use.
I gave an iPod as a gift to my mother and it took me almost an hour to explain to her how it worked and how she could use iTunes to manage her songs. She would never have bought a book like this simply because she would not want to waste her time reading it. How many users actually RTFM?
On the other hand, most of the geek population would never purchase such book because either the information is easily available on the Internet or we figured it out after playing with the iPod for 10 minutes.
I tried to switch to Firefox 0.9, but was overwhelmed by the amount of annoying bugs in it. It was constantly crashing on my machine and some web pages simply did not render correctly( probably the web designer's fault). I upgraded to 0.9.1 but some bugs are still there and not all extensions are working correctly. It may be much more secure than IE, but it's not as stable and still has a few flaws. I will wait for the 1.0 release and hopefully by then all those Firefox bugs will be fixed.

You realize of course that unless they're all Slashdot readers, those jokes will in fact not even be known to them.
Really? So why don't you Mr. KnowItAll?
Absolutely right.

Oh yeah, Linux.

I stole this account from all of you. LOL!

That's amazing. I have the same combination on my luggage!
Actually, I've always felt the analysts we use for design shouldn't be required to do any scripting at all. It's not their specialty.
What ends up happening, is they define the tests (and rightly so), but then are required to draft it in Robot, when it's then passed on to us.
Most of the time I have to scrap what they've done and rewrite it.
Yes, that word was not proper, and it's not their fault the system isn't designed properly.

The horizon is about 35 miles away. If you get much further than that you are in an airplane.
How many Libraries of Congress (LOC) is that?

Am I too late to make a joke about.... Never mind.

Please for the love of all that is right in the world, do not go looking for prior art on this one guys! You've earned this vacation.
If this ever gets off the ground, I will be very worried the next time my network connection goes down.
So does this mean that the new Athlon 64 chip would be classified as a WMD? What about a G5 cluster?
SO why didn't they name this device the HardMan?

That didn't last too long, the site is not responding after one comment.
Is this the fastest slashdotting ever?
