I don't think I've ever seen an advertisement that hasn't been misleading.

"Buy this, it's the best!", "We're number 1 amongst leading research!", "Approved by 4 out of 5 dentists!"

All advertising is supposed to do is lead you to their product, or mislead you away from a competitor. It's simple Marketing101. And, depending on how you interpret the data you collect you can assert whatever it is that you want. "Percentage of cancer in newborns 50%, therefore cancer is due to aging."

Advertising is interesting, but to fall for it - now that's dumb!

Also, the last thing I need is to have my doctor performing surgery on me, and having to google my anatomy during the operation.

Apparently there is a study that asked the question: "What is the optimal number of objects that a person could remember?"

Turns out that the optimal number is 7. People generally can only remember 7 items successfully on a regular basis. Mind you, I'm not sure if that is just conditioning on a western hemisphere level (where our phone numbers are 7 digits long). It did surprise me that it wasn't 10, or even 5, based on the numbers of fingers and toes.

It would be awesome if women could remember their own mobile numbers, it would take precious memory space away from the all anniversary dates you've forgotten.

Being "disposable", people aren't going to care. They'll bring it back in the worst shape possible. Scratches on the lens, chips in the body, cracks. At some point it IS going to be disposed. And for what it's worth, somewhere along the lines of the design phase, they factored in the cost of actually having to throw out cameras and building their replacements.

Why does society insist make making more and more disposable crap? Like we need more things filling up landfills.

This whole disposable movement just evolves us to making more stuff that has lower and lower quality. Hence the saying "They don't make 'em like they used to."

Sound familiar? Back in the day, ALL cameras were made of a metal body. You could blugeon someone to death with your camera and it would still be alright to take the murder scene photos afterwards. You can't do that with today's plastic cameras.

Granted some items being disposable do in fact better society, such as facial tissue and toilet paper, but for non-consumable items, we should stick to making durable QUALITY goods!

Living in Canada, you may be making 40% less, but you cost of living is essentially 40% less as well, and that's including all the taxes and pension plans we pay.

Consider that a chocolate bar or a can of Coke costs $1cdn here and when across the border the same candy or Coke costs $1usd, that alone accounts for the cost of living savings. Americans can't buy new Canadian cars and import them back to the US because they are cheaper here.

Granted living in NYC has its advantages, but don't compare a large city such as NYC to some small city in Canada. Compare it to cities like Toronto, and Montreal, where you can do just the same things, and probably experience MORE culture there than in NYC. These are large international cities that host world events such as NYC, and dramatically a lot safer too. No worries of gun toting bandits in Canada.

    - I once went to a sporting goods store in the US, and found stacks and stacks of bullets sitting on the floor without any sort of security with a sign marks "On sale, 25% off all calibre bullets and shotgun shells". Don't they lock up dangerous goods behind secure areas???
