  1. From a newish fan on Straczynski Offers To Re-Boot Star Trek [updated] · · Score: 2, Interesting

I've only watched Star Trek "part time". I watch reruns of Voyager and Next Gen quite often and enjoy both of them quite a bit. Even with the old "away team is screwed" or "lookit Jim, theres aliens in that there alien!" plots we seem to see alot, it's kinda like a inside joke now more then anything. But Enterprise made me cringe, I couldn't stand it from day 1. It doesn't FEEL like Star trek, it feels like Krikkit has been renamed "Earth" and they forgot to build their battle robots. All the "OMG TEH VULCANISM IS HOT!" just doesn't seem to work for me as I'm sure many others will agree.

Some hot nerd + no feel to the series or intresting plots = a failed series.

If they want to revive Star Trek maybe they should look at continueing the adventures of Picard outside of the movies. The movie cast is starting to dye off or get sick of it, so why not do a short series (straight to DVD would do) or 20 episodes say, restock the crew, fill in some plot holes, give the fans what we want (real Trek) and then continue on the movies for another 5 years (2 movies maybe?) and use it to set up the next Enterprise. In the second film introduce the guy as a trainee, the series would then start 20 years later when the guy has command of his own ship. Picard could be his mentor and would pop up from time to time with other series spin offs to give advice, but rather then the "lets go look at the same 12 sets every 2 weeks!" put it in a war where Earth is being attacked on pass and the new enterprise is trying to defend it untill re-enforcements arrives. Once it's held off and got support it could go on the offence and try and find out information about the attackers (could be mysterious or some rebel faction of a friendly group). Throw in linked episodes (so you meet a character in episode 1-3 and he does some helpful stuff, only to find out in ep 24 he was infact a spy), if it was this well thought out geeks would adore it and the idiot fanbase who watched Enterprise just for the Vulcan ass and edited porn would all get confused and fuck off back to their little hell hole to oogle more poorly edited porn leaving the real Trekkies and geeks to enjoy their new series which isn't 4 sluts doing whatever or yet another cop drama,

I REALLY hope this canceling doesn't turn into the same story as the original Star trek and Gundam.. That would just be hell.. Could anyone seriously see Enterprise being called "The series which revived Star trek and took it in a new generation" as people would say "Star trek revived Sci Fi and took it in a new bold direction"? I fear for the universe if Enterprise becomes cult..

  4. ENOUGH! on Enterprise Fans Buy Full-Page Ad In LA Times · · Score: 2, Interesting

This needs to not become a habit. If loads of people get full page adverts in magazines for every little fanbase then it will become meaningless.

Enterprise has been a rather poor series from the start. It didn't follow the Star Trek theme at all, it didn't feel like Star Trek. It seemed more of a parody which could of been named "Hicks in space".

I'm not a HUGE Trekkie, but I'll happily watch anything EXCEPT Enterprise. Where as I can't even stand to watch a full episode of the "new" series. I understand fans want to keep it around, but if it dies (and no offence to anyone but lets hope it does), we might get a real series. No more "Oh no we met a new race who think we're all hicks, lets make friends with them and save the universe!" and alot more "Well.. lets go look at that thing no one understands and go "WTF" when everything goes wrong or someone is taken over by an alien/warp entity thing.

Hell as far as I know they don't even have a Holo-deck, surely that cuts the series length in half without the "OMG SAFEY HAS BEEN REMOVED" episodes.

I personally wouldn't eat GM foods untill they were proven safe, but on the other hand if we can make super whatever plants safe that can feed the starving I want that to happen before I want to make sure my garden looks like I just mowed it.

Nope, I'm happy to admit IE loads faster and is a bit quicker, but it's built into the system, you expect this. What I'm saying is "out of the box" and "after a few days" is a HUGE difference, I can get a car which could do 0mph to 1000mph in 3 seconds, but it's no use if after the first 1-2 times I've driven it, it decides to drive it's self where it wants and throws hundreds of pop ups on my wind screen to distract/annoy me.

You can't possiblely monitor all traffic from "just one country", because like it or not traffic on the internet bounces like a rubber ball. No one knows where the site is hosted untill the data has been sent/recieved in many cases.

While stuff like child porn is a HUGE issue in most of the world, some countries couldn't careless. Alot of people might even find it a good thing to have child porn online in their country. So do you go "Hey China, we found some guy looking at a little girl sucking off a guy.." and have them think you're spying on them, or do you just brush it under the carpet and get accused of being apolice state much like China currently is (being called)?

This is going to sound REALLY bad puzzled but.. if you have MSN/AIM/ICQ/Yahoo or whatever and more info on the case (as in what happened after and leading up to it, nothing personal). I'd like to hear about it, I know a few sexual abuse victims myself but none of them to this degree.
