Behold the power of bottomless pockets!!! Waste time with R&D or even a beta test? Hell know why? because when the issues come up you can just throw money at the problem! First to market is truly the only thing that matters.
is it possible that MS may be trying to set a really low price point as a last attempt to get more people to not wait for the PS3? i mean MS has never lost a ton of money on a product to try and attrat more buysers right?
good thing MS thought of this one all on their own and before Apple... i mean making the iTMS able to play songs on a cell phone?? thats something you would have thought Apple would have already thought of...
I would not be shocked in MS started to lean in the direction of Apple and started to make there own machines. I think this new Xbox and the Media center are the foot holds for such a divice. that way they can implement their security at the processor level and over all clean up all of the holes they have...... or at least try to.
If you look at things like the movie industry, as of late, you will notice that they also have a heavy shellac of stupid. I think this is so people can relate better in the sense of a wider audenence. So my answer is no. To vast of our popluation here ake up that "shiny veneer of stupid."
you may or may not agree but hey at least i got to use the word shellac.
If you are running OS X and this is something that sounds really cool just wait for Tiger. With Spotlight you will be able to do this and who knows possibly even more.
I do have to say that i am not done reading yet but i do really like his out look. It's always nice for me to hear the outlook of the windows world. there are 2 points that i don't think are very accurate however. Those are the memory and the video card. I don't understand why he says it has DDR400 RAM? my G5 which sadly is one of the 1.6ghz towers has DDR2700 RAM so why would a later more powerful machine have slower RAM? The other issue with the Video card is something i saw as well before i made my purchase. However what is so far unnoted is that you can get a Radeon 9800 pro (128mb vRAM) for only 45 bucks more. I know it's still more but double the video power foronly $45 bucks? yes please!
all the comments on the board are all people being upset because Apple won't let them do things they want to with the iPod. it's not about Apple letting you do what you want it's about another rival company doing what they want. i own an iPod and can now do with it as i please as long as i do it on a private stage. a company putting out software that has broken Apple's DMCA rights isn't john doe at home by any means. you can't take a popular idea make changes to it and try to resell it. unless of course you're Microsoft....
I think if square or some other company could set up a place of auction to buy and sell characters and for them to net a small profit in the process they would. don't get me wrong i too love the idea of building up my own character and all the work that goes into it. However, do you think if another game came along that you also fell in love with you would still be able to keep playing FFXI at the same pace? I just think it would be nice to see that if i wanted to move on to another game i could try and get some of my investment in the older game back. I too think that the initial fee to buy the game is way to high. I would imagine it should be more in the $20 range with the first set of play time (whatever that might be) free.
I agree that having a bunch of users leave your server space full of characters that aren't being used in the hopes that people return and buy another level expansion is way off base. What if they left a time frame where you would get emails letting you know that if your account is left inactive for say 2 months (more or less) your information would be terminated? The extra bonus of this method is that when it comes time to eBay your character you have a base flat rate to charge. I think this will make the idea of selling your character more attractive and cause more people to do so. This will mean that people will be able to step straight into games like Final Fantasy XI where ever they want without the need to level up to buy some world pass to play in the same place as their friends. You could just buy a character on the server you wanted at a level equal to your friends and start playing.
The whole idea of playing per month is what keeps me from plaing MMO's in the first place. I go to school and work in two different cities that are 2 hhours apart. Driving between the 2 takes up valuble playing time that i would still be paying for under the pay per month model. I think things would be much better if i could pay for a group of levels. Like $10 keeps me playing until i get my character to level 30. Then I have to pay another $10 to add more levels on to that. This way if i can't play for a month for whatever reason my money isn't just thrown away.
why would i need to....... Ohhhhhhh
Sure its fast and all of that but does it play WoW?
Why not just use the front door like everyone else?

Floppy Drive: Happy Anniversary, Apple.
Apple: Floppy Drive, we broke up seven years ago.
Floppy Drive: Well, that doesn't mean we can't still go out.
Apple: Well, actually it does. That's what breaking up is.
So i can't find freedom or democracy on the web ,but can i still get my porn? because thats where i draw the line

oh wait thats right they did
maybe they will be lucky and just beat out Longhorn
but what makes it better is that we have the problems here and now while Windows users have to wait a year and a half for them.
