I'm with you on both points. I work in the "healthcare" (bunch of crap) industry.
Our company makes a profit from developing software to help find ways to deny more claims to make more money for our clients. Even people that are properly insured get screwed over by most insurance companies.
Unfortunately, now that Harmonix has given up the GH franchise, I doubt it will get better from here. Harmonix invented this genre (Amped, Guitar Hero, GH2) and they have moved on to do Rock Band, which will sell for fairly decent if nothing more than fan loyalty to Harmonix.
This story is not surprising for those of us still "growing up" (I'm a recent college grad)
I started out with console gaming (NES) and moved to PC for some time while waiting to get enough money to buy the next console. And with parents buying things like LeapFrog, the next gen is starting even younger. I can't imagine how to get much more gaming time in than I already do (~4 hrs a night after work and countless on weekends)
Idea for follow up story: "5yr old develops youngest case of carpal tunnel...."
From the head of the MPAA:
"I KNOW! Lets put so much protection on the new discs that people can't even watch the movie! That'll stop those pesky pirates..."
What if no matter what the pillow tries, you don't stop snoring? What then, will it give up or just cycle through giving you a massive neck ache in the morning from rolling around all night?
I live in an apartment complex and I got broadband for myself and my roommate. Well eventually i gooked up a wireless router for his laptop and when I plugged in his wireless card there was no less than 20 open connections. So i bought myself a wireless USB adapter and cancelled the ISP.
It's to the point now where I've dug the old NES out of the closet just so I can play games in short intervals. The only games I've played lately on my Xbox is Links 2004, and Halo on the weekends.
After a full 8 hours or more at work, I just don't have the energy to sit and play a game for 3 hours straight.
I see we've touched on all the main ones.
A good mp3 player, audiobooks, reading news, slashdot, learning new languages (I've gained 3 new ones in my current job).
If it get's to the point where all of the above aren't helping, I suggest you start job searching becuase your current employment isn't furthering your career.
This is exactly what me and my friends do, we find these local bands that are awesome and buy their stuff.
As for these one hit wonders on the radio, it's better to download because the rest of the CD is crap.
Personally, I know there's a bunch of movies in my 200+ collection of DVD's that wouldn't be there had it not been for downloading. Donnie Darko, Requiem for a Dream, Kids, Belly, Boondock Saints, PI, just to name a few.
So, the MPAA is actually making more money off of me, I just wish they would start producing more of the older movies on DVD.
I'm suprised they were able to get a patent for something so vague.
A friend of mine tried to patent an idea for a new product a couple of years ago and the paperwork and the whole process was a royal pain in the ass.
To me this seems like another get rich quick, but let's make it look legal for the time being scheme. Why do I see this turning out so horribly for everyone who paid lecenses?
If this turns out to be official it will be really sad. I was never a fan of the PS, so I didn't care when the PS2 came out. But my boss at the time got me excited about Xbox to where I was one of the crazy people to buy one on release day for an outrageous price. Problem is that now with me finishing college, I just don't have enough money to be able to buy a whole new console and new everything plus keep up with the original Xbox stuff.
MS won't have the same kind of support for the Xbox 2 as they did for the original becuase most people will stick with what they have.

No, that's the shuffle.
The shuffle is the one without a LCD screen, just buttons on it.

Agreed. I wonder if, as the space of the drive goes up, so does the flash space?
IE, 256 for the 80gb, 512 for the 120gb, 1024 for the 160, etc

If you RTFA, that's exactly what it has. You pull a knob out to put it in tuning mode and then push it back in when it's done

I like this no security thing

"Any law that makes criminals out of over 10 millions americans, probably isn't that good of a law" - Dan from the TV series Sports Night
This quote applies here as well becuase even if this passes, there will always be a way.
