  1. Hopefully it's a winner on Upcoming Film Based On Arthur C. Clarke Story · · Score: 1

I hope it does well. Sir Arthur C Clarke and many other writers have tons of excellent short stories. The "Wind from the Sun", "The Sentinel", "The Nine billion names of God", "A Meeting with Medusa" to name a few from Clarke. It would be really neat to see some of these turned into short movies.

  2. Re:lone actor? on Upcoming Film Based On Arthur C. Clarke Story · · Score: 1

Actually if you have read the story, then you'll know there is more then just the actor. There is the moon base and if I remember correctly a shuttle craft that tries to rescue him. So yes it's mainly centered on just this lone guy in a cargo pod, but there are other people he will be talking to.

  4. Re:What the attraction of Betas? on Halo 3 Beta Sign Up Starts Dec. 4th · · Score: 2, Insightful

Well 90% of the people who sign up for BETAs do the following things:

    1. Brag about how they are the first to play it
    2. Complain that the game will suck and it keeps crashing. *It's a BETA you fool!*
    3. Never, ever give any kind of helpful feed back in the forums, email, bug reports. They just say "It crashed, fix it"
    4. Exploit the hell out of game bugs.

There is usually a good 10% that do actual "testing", they report bugs with all the detail, they don't whine/complain. And for some companies they reward this behavior. Take for example the Auto-Assault BETA, people who did a good job reporting bugs, made daily/weekly reports on game play, etc.. They were rewarded with longer play hours and access to more stuff during the BETA.

So given that, yes a single person can actually be heard and make a difference, mainly because he/she will be one of the very few that will actually report bugs and make helpful suggestions.

Well might as well blame FTP, HTTP, hell even SCP and SFTP as well. Jeez it's not like Bittorrent is the only place to get this stuff. Oh of course the two other biggies, newsgroups and IRC.

    jeez.

The new VW Beetle or the classic VW Beetle? I think it's because almost everyone at some point has seen a VW Beetle. I mean if I said it was the size of a Volvo VN 780, then maybe some people would know but not most.

This should serve as a wake up call. I mean come on, even if they confirmed it tomarrow that it is going to hit. Would 15 years be enough time to come up with a solution? The way everything because political and environmental (damm environmentalists). We'd be very lucky if we could get any kind of plan put into action.

So the question I have is if I have 10Gigs of free MP3's (i.e. "garage" bands that make mp3s of their music and put it out for free download). Does this make me a target for the RIAA? And if it does what the hell can they do to me? What if I'm sharing music that doesn't go through the RIAA?, i.e. Asian or Euorpean music labels?

  13. Dreams or Reality? on Distributed Playstation · · Score: 2, Interesting

Is there any harm in aspiring for these things to come true? What if Sony pulls off distributed computing for the PS3? Will the people here still be saying "that's stupid"? What if Sony has biotech running on the PS6 or PS7? If it wasn't for people coming up with crazy ideas would anything get invented? Innovation is important part of pushing things forward. If nobody tried to do the crazy things, then how would we know if it would be possible?

When Kenndy said let's go to the moon. What if eveyrbody had listened to the poeple shouting "It can't be done, it's stupid, it's a dumb idea." There are people out there working on fusion, anti-matter, FTL travel, grand unified theory, cures for cancer, etc... Are these people stupid and dumb? Hell, all Sony wants is a 1000 fold increase from the PS2. If they want to put biotechnology in their PS6, fine whats the problem with that?

You want to hear about something stupid and dumb? What about a "nextday delivery service?" or "being able to hear actors talk in movies?" or "going to the moon?" Frick! now these are stupid and dumb ideas.
