1. New Orleans is a major sea port. It is pretty much THE agricultural export port for the entire United States east of the Rockies. The loss of the port is a major hinderence to not only the national economy, but the world's, since the United States is the world's number one agricultural exporter. The federal government has a duty to maintain the health of the national economy.
so how about taking responsibility and not rebuilding the port in a city doomed to repeated natural disasters?
i recently did some digging myself for a webhost. i didn't find any particularly good rating site for hosting. most of what i saw did look pretty hollow.
i did follow a link from someone's sig here for www.dreamhost.com and found them to be a good deal. i read a lot of good reviews about them when googling them directly and the price is good.
i've found them to be pretty relaible, a touch slow on creation of new databases, but that's more an issue with dns than anything else. what you get for the money is good.

i'm not going to pimp myself out for them directly by spamming my user id here, but if you do decide to sign up for an account there they'll give some cash to whoever refered you. my journal has further info.
i just have a wiki where my bookmarks live. anywhere i go, i open to that page and voila, my bookmarks. since it's a wiki, i can add pages to it from anywhere. no fuss no muss and no cost.

linux is great on handhelds. i use dillo, a good, open source mini browser on my zaurus c760. i'm running the excellent pdaXrom which is a very lightweight x11 enviornment for the clamshell zaurii. try doing a little research before you post next time.
you just install the slimserver software onto your music server and use it to stream music to your assorted laptops. it supports mp3, aac, vorbis and other music formats. the server can control multiple players and can optionally synch them, if you want the same music in diffrent rooms. you can control it from a web interface from any computer, and have it control any of the players.
the server and related software are free, it's the backend to the squezebox, which is a stereo component mp3 player that can do wifi. depending on your budget you can just use the free stuff and your old laptops/desktops, or you can get a couple squezeboxes. the squezebox is nice since it's got a remote, but it's not really necessary.
get a job you like, and quit compalining about how you have all this disposable income that just leaves you feeling empty.
if you're being paid an amount that leaves you with plenty of disposable income, you are clearly a skilled worker and should be able to put your self to the task of learning a trade that you enjoy. perhaps one that doesn't pay that well, perhaps you would be living at your means. poor you, to have such choices.
sure, you have a family and responsibilites, so stop buying crap, save up a nice nest egg and then take the plunge to do something that you enjoy.
if you stopped blaming "society's model" and took some responsibility for yourself you would be living a much better life instead of whining here on/.
i was told flat out by state farm that if i made more than 3 claims i would be dropped. that was not in one year, or in three years, but in my lifetime. unbelievable.
i don't blame them for pulling those units out of the us market. what has always been shocking to me is that they haven't released their good models here. the clamshell models that they make for the japanese market are so much better. I've got a c760 with 512mb sd and a cf wifi card. i use pdaxrom for the os which provides a true x11 enviornment. it's basically a laptop, but pda sized. if sharp were to get behind the pdaxrom guys and make that the basis for the pda's os i think they'd be able to sell a ton of them.
