It would be great if there were cameos (or parts) for Silent Bob (KS) and Jay (I'll never get enough of those two.
The revenues that the placement of the ads in an arena make helps to pay for the existence of that arena. The only reason that the cost of placing one of these ads is so high is that they are seen on national television. Take that away and you devalue the existence of the ad, thereby taking away the revenue to the arena and:. taking away the arena.
This technology could definitely be used as a paid advertising tool.
Let's say that Coke has an ad on the boards of a hockey game and Fox is carrying the game as well as other broadcasters. Would it be illegal for Pepsi to pay Fox to either remove the advert or replace it with their own?
I think that this could boil down to something that will have to be considered in the contracts of the sales of broadcasting rights of events. But what happens when an event isn't sold, but is a free event? Where is the control there?
...they deleted it and replaced it. A good eye that was watching closely might have seen the difference in a still, but who is paying attention. I'm not saying that it was newsworthy that an NBC logo was in view, but it could have been something else.
Scenario: Let's say that a drunk and hopped up on amphetamines exec from CBS was flashing his as* on the live broadcast. That's embarassing to them.....would they edit it out? I think they would, particularly if no one was going to notice. This would make them obfuscators of fact, not something that I value in a news agency.
I for one will never trust CBS news again, not that I particularly enjoy relying on the mainstream media for my news anyway. I greatly prefer something like/. where any jackas* like myself can state their interpretation, point to the facts that they have uncovered and the truth can be gleaned from this overflow of information.

We nerds can get chicks........it's all about self confidence. You could be ugly, broke, and bleeding from a massive headwound, as long as you've got balls you can get the girl. Self confidence shines brighter thatn any light saber, just don't confuse it for being brash.
It has sometimes been suggested that had it not been for his illness Hawking might not have focused his mind and gone on to make the contribution to science that he did. It galvanised him and forced him to solve problems not on a blackboard but geometrically and pictorially in his head - in 11 dimensions.
As I read the article I kept thinking that the author wasn't very good at his job, then I read Hawking's thoughts about humans staying ahead of electronic intelligences through genetic engineering. That thought made me grateful for the article.
Then I read the "11 dimensions" thought. What an ass(the author).
I think this is a great idea, but it would be very important that no AC's were allowed to comment on the incoming stories and we would have to control ourselves to commenting on them only if they're a hoax or otherwise not/. material.
Then when a story was actually posted the comments on its validity as a story could be removed or available separately. This would also give people some lead time on their comments and allow those dedicated enough to do some real research.
I'm not saying that they deserved all of the nasty mail that I assume they got, but they sure learned how many people want to have the linux option available to them. Putting the word out. It was news to make a point, and I think it did. I would never say that Fox was an evil corporation (wait, aren't they all?), but they have now actually been introduced to our friendly OS and maybe the fervour with which they were flamed will lead them to our higher ground.

That's the most interesting thing I've read in this discussion. Too bad after 400+ comments everyone's out of mod points.
Thinking on the journey that we as a race have taken to come this far and looking ahead to how long it might take to get to the point where we might be able to create something as complex as ourselves and our world........maybe it is possible. This shows us that creation isn't magic and that is a very powerful thought. It might take us just as long again to create something worthwhile, but this step proves that it is a possibility.
Feels like a eureka moment for mankind. I don't think the same now as I did an hour ago. I hesitate to say "God is dead", but I will say that he's not as mysterious to me anymore, if he is.

No, the bar is occasionally empty and after last call and everyone clears out I'm the only one there. That's when the ninjitsu gets started. I always assumed that I was alone.
Sad thing about the camera and the ensuing arrests is that while they did catch the employee that was stealing thousands, they also caught the poor janitor guy nicking quarters out of the tip jar and charged him too. Poor old guy.
In order for any of that footage that goes on cable to be used, a release has to be signed, or a crime committed. That's why some of the people on cops have their faces blurred.
I think these "real camera footage" shows are even worse than Springer. A friend was telling me of one where a surveillance cam caught a guy in a pinata factory "making love" to a pinata, and he sued for entrapment (they made the pinata look too good not to have sex with).
The presence of the cameras bother me. I just found out a couple of days ago that the bar where I work part time had a camera in it for a six week police sting.
I wasn't doing anything illegal (just luck really) but doesn't everyone do weird shit when people aren't watching (or you think they aren't). Kung-Fu moves with pool cues, pretending to be a hummingbird, all recorded. The cops must have got a good laugh out of me.
I think that's the point really. How free can we feel if we know we're being watched. When I occasionally ride the subway, I find myself just sitting quietly anymore. In the past I know I would have been up to something weird just to amuse myself. Not illegal, not immoral, but weird and now I hesitate.
Do you think that Corel has taken the right path in making a user friendly distro of Debian? Aside from the hoopla of threatened lawsuits and other controversy do you think it is easy enough for a newbie and fleshed out enough for someone who wants to really use it?
I think that it's somewhat naive to think that Bruce's (much respect) preference as to whether the story should have been run should have been taken into account.
Slashdot is about journalism. I know that a lot of the time it seems to be about linux or about OSS, but it is one of the purest forms of journalism around. These things just shine through because they interest us.
It could be said that Slashdot has a positive effect on the Open Source Community, but would you have a story held back because it is potentially damaging to said community?
In a lot of cases ordering online is great, but I feel the need to touch, taste, try, and possibly damage the goods that I'm going to buy. I will never buy a suit jacket on-line, it's hard enough to get one fitted in a good store. Malls need not feel threatened by the net and should have a web presence, possibly with an amalgamation of links to the websites of the stores within the mall.
E-commerce has it moments, but will never replace the tactile advantages that mall retail offers (not to mention the KFC).
That if it was on Google it would be archived. Then at the very least we could read the text and get some sense of context about the page.
It seemed odd but I did a search for "crowdedtheater" and got no results, but when I searched "crowdedtheater" and "mike" I got results containing just the results "mike". I was under the impression that Google only returned results containing all search terms. Kind of odd.........probably not some kind of conspiracy.
It seems to me that if the FBI haven't taken any official legal action then it isn't illegal to put up a mirror. Particularly if it is out of US jurisdiction.
It seems very odd to me that the FBI would take a step like this just to prevent further Y2K paranoia. Very suspicious indeed, but then their actions have brought even more attention to the matter.
I am always greatly disturbed when I hear of an ISP dropping content because of threats and lawsuits or in this case, the request of law enforcement. Are there ISP's out there that guarantee the placement of content until a court forces removal?

Like a decent grounding in physics.
There is an 11 dimension theory, called M-theory, sounds fascinating, I'm gonna get fired today. Not getting any work done at all.

I know a guy who had this scarred into his forearm. It's entirely untrue, women thought it was disgusting and his knees are totally shot.
Then again so are mine, but I'm too old to ollie anymore, and the only grinding I do is with women who dig the scar on my chin.
