I think it might very well be possible that many of those clicks are made from computers that are not owned by the user. Like maybe the school's computer or a friend's (who has wronged you) computer that the user (who has access, but not the know-how of how to infect)would want to harm. So I'd wager that quite a few of those clicks would not qualify as a completely idiotic act.
Well the author of the mail certainly has not sent a flame mail. On the contrary, it is very level headed and well reasoned. However, I do believe the fact that he has been an apple customer for over 30 years and that he's an IT Manager at MIT with the ability to sway the students' and staffs' buying preferences (which he makes sure gets conveyed in the mail) had an effect. I doubt if I had been in the same situation and written a similar mail, would get a similar response.
Overall, I applaud the author for doing the right thing.
What about the legit copies sold with new computers in china? I'm sure they amount to something as revenues for microsoft.
It is understandable that vista sales would be low. As you could get the copy for a very very low amount of money from pirates.
Unless you tilt your head, human ears can not perceive whether the sound is coming from above or below. So there isn't really much point in sticking a speaker on the ceiling. I know this since I'm an acoustics engineer for a car company.
Acutally there are only two forms of life possible. Carbon based like our world or silicone based. And we know a lot about carbon based lifeforms and under what conditions it can be formed. It is even possible to create carbon based organic matter from inorganic when early earth conditions are recreated. These protoplasmas attach and under heavy radiation from the sun, genetic diversity forms and the rest is evolution.
As for silicone based life forms, silicon-oxygen bond is much stronger than carbon-hydrogen bond and takes enormous amounts of energy to rearrange the atoms. Therefore it is much less likely, yet still possible.
Quantum mechanics is just a series of mathematical abstract methods to formulize what we observe in the subatomic. It does not explain why we observe what we do. Besides, you can derive the classical dynamics equations from the quantum mechanical ones only under certain circumstances, not all the time. So there is no guarrantee that quantum mechanics is not going to falter once CERN (biggest, meanest) particle accelerator being built in switzerland is operational.
Seriously, we have no idea what we observe is. We don't even know what we call matter is. We just define a particle as energy which that is spread in space-time continuum (which by the way could be 11 or even 22 dimentional according to string theories) that acts as a wave or a particle under certain conditions.
Just a quick correction. Although much of what you say is true, kurdish is not a forbidden language in turkey. There are kurdish concerts, tv shows (albeit currently limited to the state tv), music albums etc.. What the turkish government is trying to prevent by denying an existence of a kurdistani state (when in fact, currently there is no such country), is to avoid having a (perhaps understandably) hostile neighboring kurdish state bent on acquiring currently turkish soils.
When we've examined over trillions of planets and failed to find any life forms, then maybe we can come to the conclusion that we're alone in the known universe. Please..
PS: I don't believe in ufos being aliens otoh since it would be pretty far fetched imho.

Since when is directx the industry standard? I had the belief that openGL is, whereas directx is the microsoft standart.
