So I know some 60 year olds with massive illnesses and are a burden to society. Even some 40 year olds have reached their expiration date because of drinking/drugs and hard living. On the other hand, my mother and father are 75 and 78 and are in relatively perfect health with no issues to speak of. They get regular checkups and both are still working and productive members of society. Why say that just because they have reached a magic number, that they should all the sudden go jump off a cliff. This guy is an idiot. Tomorrow he could have a stroke and be a burden to his friends, family and society.
Personally I have been using Windows Home Server streaming to an Xbox. I copy all of my decoded video to a videos folder on the windows home server. The home server is automatically detected by the xbox and streams through my router to the xbox which is hooked up to our LCD TV via HDMI. It works great!
I think with this economy, some people jump to the quick and easy response "Just be glad you have a job and shut up." I have been through multiple layoffs during this recession and my take is some companies are using the recession as an excuse. They use it as an excuse to overwork people, to not take care of HR issues when they need to, not give raises (even cost of living) and other general crappiness that they can get away with. Obviously, you are not being treated right. They probably said to themselves "Yeah this guy is bright and can multitask so lets get rid of everyone and make him do all the work!" Cost-savings of $$$$. You won't get fired for asking for a raise. Go in there with a complete list of the things that you do/are responsible for and see what they say. If they say F**%% off, then you know to start looking. The economy is getting better and if you leave, they are going to be screwed. If they are stupid enough to not give you anything, they deserve what they get.
An old manager told me once that they were told in a seminar that they should expect 4-5 hours per day "real work" and the rest crap from most engineers. You are always going to be interrupted with random stuff-- answering email going to find someone to have a mini work meeting etc. I find that this is pretty normal. I myself can't do more than 4 hours without being extremely burned out at the end of the day.
Weird-- Oracle isn't a language-- it is a database. You can use SQL(which is a language) on Oracle(database). I am not sure why they are still teachning assembly-- most view assembly as not really helpful in an academic environment as we now have and have had compilers for ages that work well and well if you want to write a compiler 1. you are a geek and 2. you are reinventing the wheel. Believe me, with the other items on that list-- there is more than enough for a Bachelors.
Hi,
I just recently looked at the local Jr. College and it seems that they are now offering some classes in game design. Pima.edu. I am sure that a college near you might have the same offerings.
I think also that you might want to look at taking some classes on ITunes U on IPhone app design-- I think there are some huge opportunities in this area. You will need to check out some books in Objective C-- It will help you if you already know some C as Objective C follows much of the same rules.
Most of all, I would say, if this is really what you want to do-- make a promise to yourself that you will follow this through to the end whatever the roadblocks. Never loose sight of the end result and never give up on your dreams.
I think considering the state of the economy, 72.5 mil for the opening weekend is pretty good. I saw it on Saturday and I think it was just what the franchise needed-- If the movie had been mediocre or bad-- This would have been the end of the franchise. The only thing I had a problem with was even tho Zachary Quinto was a great Spock-- I kept thinking about to Sylar and comparing the characters. LOL So Spock was an interesting mix indeed.
In general, I have been less than impressed with the whole bluetooth standard. As far as gadgets, like a phone connecting to a computer, I have found bluetooth to be very quirky (disconnecting alot etc). I have also found bluetooth remotes (Apple remote for example) to be crap because of interference. The one bluetooth accessory that I have been happy with is the bluetooth keyboard from Apple. It works perfectly.
I would tend to agree. There is far too much focus on elements of the programming envionment, such as Eclipse for Java or Visual Studio for Visual Basic. When the focus is off the actual structure of statements and how to get a statement printed to the screen, much is lost. Viva BASIC!
Most places I have worked for make you sign something that you will not put easter eggs in and if you do they can terminate you immediately and without notice. Not worth getting fired over....
The reason why XM and Sirius are loosing subsribers is that they pissed off both in the merger. They took away many of XM's stations in favor of crappy Sirius replacements and they took away Fine Tuning (booooo!). They pissed of Sirius by taking away many of their sports stations and putting them on XM instead. Nobody won so everybody is leaving!
In my experience, You are going to need some sort of certifate-- MCP, Networking, MCSE or something like that. I have been in the job market on and off in the southwest region and most jobs here do not specify a BS or a BA, but they definitely want some sort of certificates. You will not be able to get in just on your good looks and the fact that you hack at home:)
Hi,
You also need to consider the fact that you are infringing on their intellectual property-- even if you aren't taking a single piece of code. Intellectual property can be defined as an indea-- which is essentially what you are taking with you when you leave. You are taking the idea of the company's product and building upon it for your product. I am not sure who would win the suit, but you have to consider that you could be in violation of stealing their "ideas" and expanding upon it-- even though their current product sucks.
If you actually go to the web site Trek Today, it states that Manny Coto denied the rumor stating they are already building sets for the episodes that will occur after the sopposed cancellation date. Read for yourself--

I really don't think it matters where you get your degree, just as long as you have one. If you learn alot and pay attention in your classes, I think thats what is key. Also, make sure you can intern while you are getting a degree with some local businesses. I think some work experience in the field is key.
I am not sure about the XBox, but I have heard of at least 5 or 6 people having issues with the Playstation 2--Stops reading discs So I am not sure that the xbox is the only one that has issues.
It seems to be as if Microsoft might be trying to do too much with just a service pack. They are attempting to basically morph the OS into more of a firewall enabled secure environment that one might see in Debian for example. I have also heard that these blockages have also pushed longhorn's development out as well as the blockages that they are hitting in SP2 are directly affecting the coding for Longhorn. Not sure, but it does seem as if Microsoft needs some new blood in their programming department.

Well if enough of us boycott any future release for this BS that they are pulling-- it could lead them down a path to bankruptcy.
I did not want to see it as I hate combat movies. Now, I am going to boycott any movies that come out of this studio.

Anybody else think this is like serial killer weird? This guy needs to spend some serious time with a shrink...
