Let IBM slap any flavor of Linux on the desktop or pay some group to do it. Then I will really be happy with them. I know that my wishes do not determine IBM's strategy whatsoever, but this does not prevent me from wishing.

Right now Ubuntu looks OK for the Gnomers and XandrOS is just fine for the KDErs [IMHO]. The most important thing here is to have a desktop that works out-of-the-box.

Yes, on a related technological point, I once noted here at Slashdot, that we as Americans tend to over engineer. In the process, we make everything complex. After the recent missile interceptor failures, I am now even more hungry for good news. Who knows whether simulations relied on in earlier days were never valid at all? Now there is this news too....where should I stop?

  7. Re:BOFH? on NASA Prepares Discovery for Launch · · Score: 1, Insightful
They (NASA) should emulate the Russians with simplicity. This reminds me of the US$10,000,000 dollar pen while the Russians simply used a pencil. As Americans, we over engineer, and in the process, waste resources. If one looks at the details of the vehicle the Russians are designing for Mars, there is simplicity at work with very complex issues to handle. In the process of over engineering, we add complexity and then brag about what our achievements are. I guess it is because of the one biggest evil in capitalism - MONEY. Somewhere somehow, a bureaucrat or his/her colleagues is getting money, not caring that much about the Union of States (USA).

I guess in the very near future, these Russians will suprise us with another space achievement at a cost we can not dream about...then we will worry about who might get hands on this technology.

These terms could be GPL/LGPL or whetever they license they choose. This would save them (EU & MA), the burden of having to interprete whatever MS and others mean in their licences.

In effect, they should tell whoever wants to participate that MA and the EU plus all those who might decide to use the submitted works will not be sued under any circumstances by any entity...or that in case they are sued, the submitters will have to meet the full costs.
