    Sonar behaves completely different in shallow water. You can't train for that in deep water.

    That's long term exposure. Pings are very short, and not all that frequent. The exception would be weapons sonar... and I dare say I would hope they weren't dropping live munitions.

    I think the real hindrance to desktop use of (anything like) the Cell/BE is the difficulty in programming for them properly. People seem to have a hard enough time wrapping their heads around threads.

    Whether APT/DEB was a key component to its success is anyone's guess. More likely was the fact it was built on Debian, which is how it ended up with APT/DEB in the first place.

    And I would hazard a guess that, the whole reason Debian is so stable... is because of it's policies and processes. I would say that APT/DEB has very little to do with this stability.

    This is no vigilante justice. Someone noticed things that are (usually) contract terminators, notified the hosting provider, who then exercised their rights that were reserved in the contract between them and the customer.

    There was no justice, only contract fulfillment.

    What's the deal with TIFF anyways? I convert that 80mb file losslessly to PNG, and it brings it down to 47mb. Almost 50%!

    Logic is more integral to programming then raw mathematics. Most of the scut-work in programming is "dull" and not really algorithmic.

    Imagine this scenario:

    You have Bob. Bob has a thing about catching STDs. No matter how many times he gets cleaned up, he turns around and does something stupid and gets a new one, and in turn passes them on.

    Is it unethical to study his infections? The subject won't stop getting the infections, nor will he stop spreading them. However, we can use what we learn from studying the subject further on down the line.

    Not quite so black and white is it? I side with the researchers. The botnet will be there either way, and if we actively destroy it a new one will be made in it's place (and possibly improved, preventing study). Might as well learn what we can from it before making a move.
