My disdain for your silly profession aside, why the fuck would you get your hands on a PS3, through work, as a hypnotherapist?
That... and I've already read a lot of hands on accounts of the PS3, from a multitude of sources, and none of them mention any of the supposed problems you speak of.
Well first of all, I forgot my tag, ie. I meant it mostly tongue-in-cheek.
But Halo was not the second worthwhile console FPS, IMO. Red Faction was reasonable, and Half-Life for the PS2 was a better game than Halo(not including MP). And there were some other really fun FPSes on the N64 too. Halo was certainly the best multiplyer console FPS of it's time. I played a decent amount of Halo. I was, in fact, a fan. I was eager to play Halo 2.
But then Halo 2 sucked =P
I was very disappointed by Halo 2. To me, the shields-only health system seriously screwed up the gameplay. The multiplayer maps weren't much better than the first game. And the single player campaign was boring and annoying. Maybe there was just too much competition by then. Killzone for the PS2, as so-so as I found it to be, was far more entertaining than Halo 2 for me.
But, I'll have you know, Steve Ballmer is on the record saying that Halo is THE BEST GAME EVER MADE!
Kraft is owned by Phillip Morris, and both companies have attempted to cover up their own research when it was not favourable. For a food company, that's just.. Bad(TM).
And they make really shitty food!:)
Note, however, that they don't rank very high on my list of boycotted companies. I do buy one Kraft product... their spicy mayo. *mmmm* mayo *drool*
Last gen I was rooting against MS, since I hate them. My hate is a bit more evenly spread these days, and I despise Sony nearly as much now. I've been waiting for the Wii and PS3 to arrive before jumping on the next-gen console wagon.
But, just out of pure goddamn spite I'm leaning more and more towards the ludicrously expensive PS3.
On swallowing the price, however, it certainly helps that I *gasp* do in fact want a next-gen "DVD" player too. But that's not a big factor for me.
But.. since I'm broke, it'll most likely be quite some time before I get a new console. *Unless* I pick up a Wii on an impulse buy. That just depends on how much I like the games, and if my wife likes it.
As for the fucking douchbags on here calling for boycotts of Sony.. Hahaha, what a fucking joke. Wake the fuck up! If I'm going to boycott any of these companies, MS is first on my list. I do some OSS dev, and work almost exclusively with OSS software, and Sony is *far* more friendly towards OSS than MS. But I won't even boycott MS. Avoid using their software, yeah, just for business reasons though.
I boycott Walmart, Kraft, Exxon. You know.. companies that actually hurt people.
A decent gaming rig DOES indeed demand a 500+ Watt PSU, because there are very occasional spikes in power usage with such machines. The same is likely true for the PS3. It might spike at 300+, but have high sustained draws of MUCH less.
I'm going to draw up an analogy, since people *still* can't deal with homosexuality rationally.
Instead of homosexuality, how about race?
-Bully - a game developed by Rockstar that features black people. -People complain about there being black people in the game.
OP: Anyone who finds it offensive(that the game features black people) should be considered a bigot. You: No, you're a bigot. Me: Bullshit. He was pointing out bigotry, doesn't make him a bigot. You: Blah blah blah
Yeah... I don't buy that. Sorry.
If you want to play silly semantic games, go ahead. It has no useful value though.
You're damn right about the bugs in Warrior Within. In fact, I put a lot of hours into that game, got to the very end, yet couldn't finish due to a gameplay bug. All 3 of my saves were corrupted(GC version).
The bug in question was mentioned on Ubisoft's website. They provided no fix, no workaround. The only solution? Play the entire game over, and *PRAY* it doesn't happen again. Not even a mention of how to avoid triggering the bug.
So I sent Ubi a nasty(no, not like my posting history sort of nasty) email and traded the game in.
I disagree about the enviornmental puzzles in WW. I thought they were best in WW. I did like SoT more though, due to less emphasis on combat, although what was there was terribly painful. OTOH, the combat in WW was often of such extremely variable difficulty as to drive one insane.
Yeah, the puzzles though. In WW, they were the best. They were larger, more intricate, more difficult, and more beautiful. And the Dhaka(that what it was called?) sequences were amazing and intense -- insane 3d platforming in a hurry! In the final game... they improved the combat, reduced the amount of it, yet, visually, it looked terrible in comparison to the first two games(a matter of artwork I think, not technology), and the platforming sequences were just boring. Still worthwhile though.
It's as if Ubisoft was abso-fucking-lutely dead set on NOT making a perfect game. And they were so damn close..!
I have more bookmarks(a few hundred) than anyone else I personally know, and I've never seen this happen. Is this something people besides yourself have experienced?
I now wonder if Sony are monitoring me. They certainly are modding these posts flaimbait consistently.
No. *I* mod your posts down.
Are they going through my thrash, and obtaining my phone records as well?
A.) You are delusional. B.) You are not important.
Much of the money you spend buying Sony gear goes to support anti consumer efforts from DRM
Ditto for.. *every* consumer electronics, software, and media giant. Indeed, Microsoft is probably doing more than any other company to stuff DRM down our throats at the moment. Noone needs games and hi-def movies. Many people need to buy new Windows machines now and then. Why don't you go beat up on them in the Xbox 360 stories? Or do you? If not, then you're just a hypocrite with an axe to grind.
You're talking nonsense. "Full HD video" is meaningless for PC games. If you're playing a 1080p video, then it will indeed be scaled. But games don't target specific resolutions.. generally. The video is rendered in real time in the output resolution.
So, tell me, why has Zonk failed to post 90% of the positive news about the PS3? Why do I have to go elsewhere to read most of the accounts of people who have actually gotten their hands on a PS3? Why do I have to go elsewhere to read any criticism of the Wii from people who've played them?
This is/. for fuck sakes. How can you say with a straight face that an editor here isn't biassed?
Why would it be scaled? How many games produce graphics in a target resolution and then scale? The only considerable difference here is the aspect ratio. That's it.
Wow, you're a complete n00b and you don't understand the issues at all. If you log in maybe someone would be willing to waste their time explaining it to you.
only if C++ is patent encumbered
netean, I don't believe you.

Why do Communist protest in the US? With Cuba so close, it's like going to Wendy's and demanding a bucket of chicken!
That's like implying that libertarians should move to Somalia.
BWahahaahahahahaha
The 90s were bad? THE 90S WERE BAD?!
The 90s were a damn sight better than the past 6 years in every conceivable way.
that was supposed to read, "my tag"
Well first of all, I forgot my tag, ie. I meant it mostly tongue-in-cheek.

Is it any wonder us "hardcore" long-time gamers just groan when people talk about Halo? The parent post is the perfect example..
Fucking Halo...

I'm afraid the PC is still the only platform that has the FPS genre "down."

Nope, wrong. See my other reply to this thread.

This entire story is pure FUD.
The PS3 has a 380 Watt PSU. There is no info here about what the actual power draw is likely to be at most times.
For comparison, my gaming PC has a 600 Watt PSU. IIRC, with my hardware, it should be peaking at about about 250 Watts while running games.
The PS3 uses OpenGL.

Pointing out bigotry.. is not itself bigotry.
But, don't let that stop you fucking asshats replying to the OP.

This is
1600 * 1200 pixels == 1,920,000 pixels
1920 * 1080 pixels == 2,073,600 pixels
Almost the same number of pixels.
Why would it be scaled? How many games produce graphics in a target resolution and then scale? The only considerable difference here is the aspect ratio. That's it.
