If I were to do this stuff myself, I would probably use Partial Least Squares and build a regression model using the chemical composition as X, and the customer ratings as Y. Or depending on the number of variables in the chemical composition compared to the number of samples (wines), one of the Sparse Partial Least Squares variants might prove to give better predictions (and it would also be interesting to see which variables in X it discards as less important).
I am from a country where all the operators adhere to the CEIR blacklists. Phones are blocked by IMEI, and it is not necessarily trivial to change the IMEI on modern phones. The problem is that most users who have their phone stolen do not bother (or know how) to blacklist. Just reporting the phone stolen does not automatically blacklist it, one has to fill out a separate form for that.
If something was done so that close to all stolen phones are blacklisted, stealing a phone would immediately become a lot less lucrative. At least from my experience in Norway, phones are stolen to resell locally or for the thief to use. Effective blacklisting would make sure that stealing a phone would only be feasible for anyone who would send them to a country where blacklists are not enforced, or someoene with the equipment and knowhow on changing IMEIs. This would pretty much rule out petty thiefs.
Vice has a report from Iraq titled In Saddam's shadow, where these devices are shown (and it is pointed out that they are a hoax). This kind of fraud is really one of the worst kinds...
Do you have access to DreamSpark via your school? I study IT in Norway, and with my Microsoft DreamSpark login I can get a good bunch of their operating systems for free. If you do, then get a Windows 8 laptop (just make sure Windows 7 compatible drivers are available), then install Windows 7 from DreamSpark.
Another option is to install Start8 from Stardock or similar, if it is the new interface stuff you don't like. I found Windows 8 quite likable with a proper start menu.
For "real" 27" displays that have 2560 x 1440, and not just full-HD, the experience is really good. I first regretted shelling out for a Dell UltraSharp U2711, but after connecting it and seeing the amount of screen real estate I eventually bought another one for my second computer. 2560x1440 eliminates my need for an extra monitor completely, and by using the Windows+(left arrow|right arrow) function in Windows, or Divvy on Mac, I can easily fill the browser on one side and the application I work with on the other.
This could probably be chalked up as being deliberate, judging by the standards of our current power structures. When everything collapses, the rich and powerful will find ways to concentrate and extend their power even further. While not having to starve while the rest of the population does, of course. I mean, it is a reasonable possibility that some current wars are fought to fuel the military industrial complex, so an economic collapse to gain power seems plausible to me.

Their "Mac-ish" trackpads are really horrible. They sort of look like those on Apple laptops, but do not work even half as good. One big problem is that the mouse pointer will move unevenly if you have two fingers on it (if you prefer to click with your thumb for instance). Try having your index finger and your thumb on it, and then move the thumb, and you will see the pointer moving. Later drivers have made the issue less bad, but the pointer will still hove horizontally. Try that with a Mac pad and the pointer will keep still if you move the thumb, which is how it should be to avoid uneven movement.
And also, why the hell do they still insist on having left and right button on the left and right side of the trackpad? It is horrible and erases the border between the two, unless the laptop manufacturer has made a dent in the surface or something. I must say I prefer the Apple solution to this - clicking with two fingers equals right click.

A lot of stuff is listed there. I think Cyanogen provides a pure Android experience, plus some handy extras that I find pure AOSP builds lacking. If you'd rather have Sense, you can find all sorts of supertweaked Sense ROMs on XDA. But heck, go ahead and try CyanogenMod and see if you like it. After rooting, taking full backup of your phone is trivial, so experimenting after that is not that much hassle.
I use CyanogenMod based roms on my Android devices, and the main reason is the power control widget. It has many more features than the stock one. When you add it you can choose to have toggle buttons for stuff like 2g/2g+3g/3g, flashlight, orientation, wireless hotspot and many more, including the ones from stock like bluetooth, wifi and data traffic.
First thing I did when I got my Desire HD was to get rid of the stock sense rom and install CleanDHD (Cyanogen 7-based).
Can anyone explain me this stuff? The top layout thingie is the standard one I found on wikipedia, and I find it horribly unnatural to use, therefore I created my own distribution of finger use pictured on the bottom, which feels much more comfortable. The finger names in the picture are in Norwegian, but they correspond from left to right on your left paw. The best example is the C button. Even the thought of using the middle finger for that button makes me shrug, therefore I rather use the index finger.

I commute every day, and after having read through one of the monthly magazines i recieve (Aftenposten Innsikt, articles about everything from nuclear power to oil in Nigeria), i play DS or PSP. Or, at least I used to. That made me "abandon" them is that no good games (with some exceptions) come for them any more. I have a phone that I could probably play on, but I prefer having battery left to actually do phone stuff.
My Norwegian provider NetCom has a surfing package for 125 NOK (15,5 EUR / 20,5 USD), where you basically get unlimited traffic over GPRS/3G/HSDPA. What they do is that they cap your speed to 100 / 100 kbit after 6 GB (monthly quota), and you can purchase another 1 GB for 99 kr if you need the speed. Without this package, you pay maximum 9 kr per day for data traffic, but they cap the speed after 200 MB in month. I think this is a very good offer, way better than paying for a certain amount, and then having to pay more if I go over that. I take bandwidth caps over extra fees any day when it comes to data traffic on the phone.
There are probably better offers in other countries, of course, but by Norwegian standards it is pretty good.

Is it? I just saw the Chan-wook Park movie Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. It is a South Korean thriller movie. The main person are a deaf guy and his sister, who abducts a child who later dies in their custody. A lot of the movie is about the father, who seeks a very gruesome revenge. The main characters are certainly not good guys, and the way the father seeks revenge does not make him one either. This was very different from the good guy-bad guy-movies that I have seen from Hollywood, and is one of the few movies that have managed to stir up some strong feelings inside me while watching. All in all a very different movie (seen from a western perspective, I come from Norway). This is a movie, not a videogame, but I think the same could apply to a video game. The whole good guy-bad guy-thing should not be written in stone, and perhaps many game developers should think of new dynamics instead of having a very clearly defined good guy (often played by you) and clearly defined bad guys.
In Windows 7 you have TRIM to make sure the SSD keeps its performance over time. What does Apple have to offer in this area for Mac OS X? I tried to put a OCZ Vertex in a MacBook Unibody, but after the drive got completely filled up, the performance gain was lost. In Windows 7 the drive is fast like it should thanks to TRIM. Is it any different from the Apple blessed drives you get in the Air or when you order SSD as a option straight from Apple?
Going from the typical 5.400rpm laptop drive to SSD makes you feel like a 14 year old girl again. Jokes aside, it is really a noticeable difference, even for simple things like opening the start menu. And the best of it, your computer does not slow down so horribly much when multiple applications are accessing the drive. Even netbooks benefit greatly from SSD.
For forum administrators, it is a very clever way to keep many ban evaders out. While it is not un-killable, it is pretty much a pain in the ass to get rid of, since it will get back if you miss a single one and visit the site again. Read the list of the places it stores its cookies, and be amazed how many there actually are. So, 1) ban user, 2) place cookie, 3) user signs up again, 4) your site detects the evercookie + new registration, 5) verify and ban again (unless the user suddenly becomes a good user, of course).
You can try out privoxy. It is an ad filtering proxy server, which will work with any browser. I don't surf the web without it. Just install it, set your browser to use proxy 127.0.0.1 on port 8118, and voilá, obnoxious ads be-gone.

Well, Opera is very configurable. They could perhaps provide one thread per tab as a option? I think that would be in line with the Opera spirit.
