I remember a very famous company operating an important web site while back that claimed they had an iron clad security when it came to the way they the stored and protected their data from intruders. One day they came to work only to find out that someone had broken in to their company and had loaded all their servers in to a truck and left. (--As heard on DSLReports)
I'd suggest "free WiFi with purchase". Buy something and a WiFi access code is printed on your receipt good for an hour or two. The customers get what they want and the freeloaders can go else where.
Granted, it is a slight hassle for the paying customer, and I'm sure dedicated freeloaders will dig through trash to find half-used access codes (or eventually figure out how you're generating codes), but it's still better than smelly nerds hogging tables for head-to-head D&D play over the access point.
(Of course, if another of these service pops up...)
Isn't that what <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOARCHIVE"> is for?

Well, the only evidence of life is that which exists on Earth. On Earth, where there be water, there be life. The statement "All life needs water" is supported by the evidence. The evidences scope, however, is rather narrow.
Today the nascent Machine routes packets around disturbances in its lines; by 2015 it will anticipate disturbances and avoid them. It will have a robust immune system, weeding spam from its trunk lines, eliminating viruses and denial-of-service attacks the moment they are launched, and dissuading malefactors from injuring it again. The patterns of the Machine's internal workings will be so complex they won't be repeatable; you won't always get the same answer to a given question. It will take intuition to maximize what the global network has to offer. The most obvious development birthed by this platform will be the absorption of routine. The Machine will take on anything we do more than twice. It will be the Anticipation Machine.
Yeah! And we'll have flying cars, jet packs, and nanobots working through our blood stream. And McDonalds food that causes you to loose weight and reduces your cholesterol. Plus TVs at the bottom of toddlers bowls. Don't forget money trees, they'll be there too. Oh, and California will break off and float into the ocean. Not to mention IPv6, HDTV, and hydrogen cars.
All predictions of the future have been wrong. Why will this one be any different?
But, doesn't it worry any of you that Microsoft is currently doing their absolute best to squash out every other OS on the planet?!?
Microsoft is doing their best to create the best product possible. If that means "squash out every other OS on the planet", than no, it doesn't worry me.
Well, the problem I see is, and given the state of free speech in places like Europe and our own declining freedoms here, I am very worried when the Government gets in cahoots with those who control our means of dissemating information
Now that IS something to be concerned about. The problem is the EFF is more conerned with the dots.
Who cares? So the government could possibly link the printout from MapQuest, cheats for Grand Theft Auto, and Timmy's Amazon wishlist that I threw away came from my printer. Big deal.
The only time when I can see this being useful to the Government is if I'm doing something wrong. You know, harassing my ex, threatening the President, and that junk.
You can't oppose US bashing here -- This is Slashdot!

Paid to look. They didn't buy the ideas.
I'm terribly upset that they stole DOS for the measly price of a few thousand dollars
You have some upside-down view of the world. Stealing is not when you buy something.
So Microsoft took the good business approach and Apple paid the price for early adoption. Big deal.
Justify them building yet another Linux distribution. Jumping on the bandwagon isn't a reason.
Fine, fine, fine. But if you are going to brush off Apples theft, don't bitch about Microsofts theft from Apple. World goes round.
Why yes it does.
I do remember a coffee shop discontinuing free WiFi on the weekends due to people coming in, using the WiFi, hijacking tables, and not buying anything. http://wifinetnews.com/archives/005325.html http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/05/26/234225 6

Just move to Utah.
Just buy the stupid thing and shut up already.
How to avoid dying of natural causes: Step in front of a speeding, on-coming, full-size, real-life train. (I think I covered all the loopholes.)
I have contacts at NASA. I'll make sure we skip directly to 2007.
I tried reading between the lines but all I saw was white.
Yeah, instead lets give flying cars and jet packs to the ego-centric Prius or BMW drivers. Much better idea!
*head explodes*
Not the first time I've caused someones head to explode on Slashdot, but I digress.
Technically, I wasn't making a prediction but stating an observation of the past while asking why his prediction would be any different... I think.

The bicycle is over 100 years old and is still the single most effecient form of transportation ever devised.
I would think sailing is more efficient, no?

They were already using FreeBSD through using Mac OS X. Why use Linux?
Since they're using Mac OS X, it makes me wonder why they're not using FreeBSD.
