"...why powerful modern cameras offer only JPEG and raw, instead of JPEG, raw, and PNG."
I'd guess to say it is because of storage space. If you need an uncompressed image, get from the RAW file; otherwise, having both a RAW and PNG file will mean fewer pictures on your camera's card.
"I don't know much about the laws, but it is illegal, isn't it?"
It is legal if you wear a suit-n-tie and work in a corporate office. But if you wear a tee-shirt working from your basement, you're under arrest for unauthorized access.
Hey, no cliff hangers! You haven't finished the story. You didn't say why it never ended up in court? They didn't follow through with the threat? You talked your way out of it? What?
"Perhaps timelessness is something only truly proven after a few generations."
Given that the length of a "generation" is commonly defined to be 20 to 25-years (genealogy) and the early works of the Beatles is around 1962, I'd say that criteria has been met. YMMV.
"The big thing about Red is that they make this technology affordable to smaller companies."
It is also a disruptive technology. Finally, at an affordable price, the consumer can get a RED ONE camera that has wanted features without purchasing the outrageous professional versions offered by the main manufactures who's marketing departments continues to decided what features you get at a price point. I, for one, am really looking forward to this video camera.
Now try to put that wireless in monitor mode or host mode on a Windows box to make a wireless access point, layer 2 radio to copper bridge or wireless sniffer.
"I have very deliberately avoided installing Flash on my machines. This story provides yet another reason why such a policy is good."
Maybe not. You could have Flash installed and never have this problem. By knowing what version of Flash you have installed, you wouldn't go out and get the bogus one. I mean new versions of Flash aren't released that frequently. And if you're half asleep, you'd know a new version Ads are not a big problem either if you install the Flash Block add-on for Firefox.
Or you could just tell them you'll pay the early exit fee, cancel your service and find a new phone provider (no bluffing - must follow through). I did that once for a different situation and they backed down promptly. But YMMV.
"You can burn a Blu Ray compatible disk format onto DVD.... I'm sure there are compatibility issues with some players."
I believe your DVD player must be able to handle bit rate of 15Mbps for this to happen. The DVD standard bit rate is max 9Mbps with average typically around 7.5Mbps.
"...the only two things they make that people really HAVE to have are Xbox... "
Are things changing? I have a PS3 just for the Bluray. My 15 year old neighbor kid comes over to play games on it. I ask why he doesn't have an XBox. He says he'd rather have a PS3 when he gets the money and all his friends have one. Is this a trend I wonder or just his click.

"I have a whole bag of "sh!" with your name on it."
In other words, you have the whole shebang?
"Let say I sell plants."
I would have preferred a car analogy. It would have not been as complex to develop your point and you'd have done it with fewer words.
"Just because you 'consented' to an agreement does not mean that you fully understood the terms of the agreement..."
Especially if a EULA is full of legalese. How is the layman suppose to understand that they are agreeing to, I wonder.

It's speed challenged.
lol, me too. That was a great scene.
Time will tell.

Put a Penguin or OpenBSD sticker on it then. Your "stigma" will change.

Nice work. But wouldn't you rather present it in 720p HD glory on vimeo instead of the lesser quality of YouTube?

"I think it would be great if there was a push to get artsy videos published online."
At 320x240, 15fps there is little incentive to produce or pleasure in enjoying art in video, IMHO. But I guess that's where the creativity resides.

"In Seattle, this makes you a hero."
No, it makes you a 206-RAT-FINK. If you want to be a hero, just dial 911 to make a cop come.
"Spotlight - Fucking utter crap. Why can't it show WHERE files reside? "
It DOES via Finder. The problem is the thing between the chair and the keyboard.
Finder->Veiw->Show Path Bar
At the bottom of the window is your path when using Finder and when using Spotlight, click on the file of interest and it will show the path too.

African or European coconut?
