  1. Redirecting recycling efforts? on Taking a Crack At Recycling E-Waste · · Score: 1, Interesting

Perhaps the nation as a whole should put more effort into recycling e-waste and less into the more inefficient plastics and glass, since heavy metals can cause big problems if not taken care of properly. I've also heard that the only thing proven to be efficient to recycle (in terms of energy) would be aluminum (link). Since the other ones probably don't even save us energy, why not put more efforts into something that may save us in the future? All the other recycling is probably done just for politicians to cozy up to environmentalists.

Google also is planning to venture into audio ads (radio) I recently heard that Google has purchased a company of some sorts that makes radio broadcasting hardware, and is planning to integrate their ad bidding model into radio ads. I wonder how they'll moderate video and audio ads for content, to ensure that there won't be inappropriate content.

Apple should implement the autofill feature for the nano also. Many have music collections of more than what a nano can hold, and not everyone knows how to create and use a Smart playlist to do that. I know of many friends in such a situation, and didn't want a Shuffle because there is no screen.

There was also a similar article in SciAm on suspended animation.

The interesting thing in the articles was that when oxygen supply drops, cells would still try to metabolize, up until a certain oxygen concentration, then cells will begin going into a dormant state, and preserve itself.

By draining the blood and replacing it with other substances would instantly cut the oxygen supply to the required level for cell dormancy, and allow the cells to be preserved.

I think by limiting who can get access, it can get rid of many issues like hackers using the open network, and allow the state to worry less in terms of liability because of offering internet access.

They listed OS 10.4 in the system requirements. Hopefully all the apps take advantage of all the CoreImage, CoreVideo, and the rest of the new Core features, since, correct me if I'm wrong, Tiger has gone gold, and Apple internally should've had access to all the best and newest.

I personally would love to see those already implemented when I make my purchase so I wouldn't have to get an update right after I install the new OS and apps.

The "higher" price makes sense when you add in the cuteness/coolness factor, and especially the bundled software. How much would it cost to get something comparable to iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and GarageBand? I'd say it'll cost something maybe upwards to $100. Maybe someone will do the search for it. Another beautiful thing about the whole iLife suite is the integration. You just do something in one app, then finish it up or use it in the other. For example, finish editing a movie in iMovie, then make a DVD with nice looking menus in iDVD, then burn onto DVD and distribute. And how can you ignore the coolness/cuteness factor!!!??!! Disclaimer: I use an iBook G4, and am loving it.

I switched 10 months ago, and find most of these points true.

Safari, Firefox, and almost every other browser on the planet is now vulnerable to this pop-under that uses Flash to run a script.

There are many apps written for Mac OS X that are just fabulous, and all the developers not on a Mac platform I know drool over this stuff. For example, SubEthaEdit is something that is perfect for shared projects that are text based (coding/programming). Also, the beautiful interface + the powerful UNIX backbone. Even though I myself have no experience with Obj-C/Cocoa, I heard that it is very pleasant to work with.

Also, the integration of all the bundled iApps is just amazing (iChat/AddressBook/iCal/iPhoto/iEtc). I grab email addresses from the AddBook to Mail. I can view all the phone numbers and addresses through various quick-launch programs without opening Address Book. When making movies in iMovie, I have access to all the media in iPhoto and iTunes.

Above are just two examples why I personally love Mac OS X. IMO, it is the best thing since my discovery of OSS.

P.S. I haven't had a single crash throughout my Mac experience.

Steve Jobs is what makes Apple different. To me, he is the soul of Apple Computers.
