    maybe not reworking but waiting for tech to catch up with the idea.... don't forget the iphone was born of the ipad.
    i guess at the time, given current technology, Apple could't reach that milestone in a 10" formfactor, but they could in 4"

    Apple must have had the ipad idea as early as ~2000.. (phone launched in 2007, assuming 5 years in the oven... the idea came to him in 2002.. so the ipad must have been researched/prototyped at least a year ot two before that before they decided 2002/3/4 technology wasn't going to work for an ipad)... 8-10 years or so before the ipad actually made it to shelves.

    religion is something people came up with to explain the unexplained. once we can explain stuff we're much better off (or at least feel more comfortable about it). think about the weird shit that's happened in the past.. all because we just "didn't know"

    we don't have witch hunts any more - because we can explain a lot of things which were construed as witchcraft at one time.
    we don't sacrifice humans anymore because that's not really going to appease the gods and grant us a bountiful harvest the next season.
    we don't name constellations anymore because we figured out.. they're just stars. ...discovering things using science is awesome, but as you said, religion will always be around because science can't explain things what really happens to our consciousness after we die.

    is a simple failure to recognize social norms. think about what you do in your car (dig for gold) at a stoplight. you forget you are in a little glass box where everyone can see you.

    i've seen women applying makeup, men shaving, people flossing.. BUT those same people (hopefully) don't do that at the fucking dinner table.. RMS is just in his car ALL THE TIME.

    we lock down from about mid december to mid jan.. partially because of staffing, but mostly because our enviornment needs to be stable for year end processing (I work for a bank). no elective changes are allowed during this time.. only fixes if something breaks.

    we don't run our shit in thrid party datacenters, so it's not exactly the same scenario, but it's understandable that no changes are allowed. what if your stuff breaks and you don't have staff due to the holidays? if we fuck up, we only fuck up our shit... if a hosting outfit fucks up, they fuck up a lot of other people's shit..

    maybe they host a lot of retail outfits who need to be up for the holiday shopping season.

    I think you have it a little backwards. I'd say the manufacturers are the ones who WANT to produce for Apple.. how else do you explain settling for such small margins and demanding timelines.. you don't sign up to be abused unless there's something in it for you. I think Apple is the "feather in the cap" for anyone making components.. looks good on a resume - "look - we met Apple's notoriously demanding timelines, surely we can make widgets for you too"

    Samsung sounds a bit disappointed.. having to settle for amazon and.. Samsung Electronics.
