As an accountant that knows a bit about computers I would like to say. I DON'T CARE! We use QuickBooks at work but it dose not mean we like it. QuickBooks is downloading patches and calling home as much as Windows. If you want to use it's 'advanced' features like e-mailing invoices they want you to use Intuit servers.
I know, I'm a bit paranoid. But I work with computers and accounting. Paranoia is part of the job.
Yeah, but that's no help when driving. Taking my glasses off each time I check my speedometer is not an option. The eye strain is caused by activities that involving looking up and down a lot; taking notes, driving, drawing, ect.
Forget the Hubble, think how much some one who wore trifocals would ware for a pair of glasses that could sense distance and adjust. Or how much I would pay for my distance glasses to 'turn off' if I was reading.
I would put up with a bit more bulk on my face because it would reduce eye strain.
Very true. It is more accurate to say that at $50 it is far more likely to become widely adopted because consumers would be willing to put up with it's short comings until it becomes something truly useful. And if it was not truly useful, well at a low enough price it is still a cool toy for hackers. But at the price that they were asking it would need to fill a real need and work right out of the box, and that is something that this little gadget just didn't do.

I remember when I first heard about this thing. It sounded cool, but not cool enough to spend over $1,000 on. That is the death of lots of gadgets. They are cool for $500, wonderful for $250, and you can't live with out them when they are only $100, but at >$1k it is just kind of neat.
I love cables - but then I am a bit paranoid. I get kind of uncomfortable with the idea of wireless (I've borrowed enough broadband to know that nothing is secure). Also, if my phone had Bluetooth some one will find a way to make it buzz and go "the store you are walking past has a sale on _____, why not stop by!" or "Show the cleark your phone and get 20% off at _____!"
That's why I want a USB jack. That way I need only one cord for everything.
I think the goal is a Linux Trio. If it was a truly open Linux Trio it would be fairly close to the penultimate hackable hand-held. The only thing that would make it perfect is if it had a real USB jack (or better still two) that way I could use any standard USB devicewith my SmartPhone, connect to any computer with a standard cable, and as long as I am dreaming, I want my car to have a powered USB hub so I can charge my phone, connect it to my GPS, and use it to transport music files. All that with a OS that has "Please hack and tweak" written all over it? Life would be good!
One time I took the 15min brake out of my time sheet and my boss (the director of finance, who did payroll) looked at it, sighed, and penciled it back in, and said it was less of a pain to do payroll that way.
Clear the ash? I remember when Mt. St Helens blew. Every one was flipping about how it would devastate the crops, and that it was the end of the world!!! Then harvest time came, turns out volcanic ash is the best thing for plants since the advent of light. In fact, I have a friend with a house plant potted in ash from that eruption. It is one of the most healthy strong plants I have ever seen.
I'm looking forward to that much ash.
+5 insightful. I have a few good friends that work at Sorenson's(sp) Video Relay Service. Even the extremely high level interpreters have trouble with relay calls from out of our region as ASL as well as English change in different areas. Imagen a relay call between a hearing person from the south and a deaf person that grew up in england and knows BSL better than ASL and the interpreter is born and bread southern Californian. No mater how good you are, it won't be easy.
On a side note, a deaf friend of mine thinks it is funny that we need to pay for our phones but they get VRS and Sorenson's boxes for free.
I have not played with a print controller in a while. The last time I was working with one was about two years ago, back then a brand new Konica ran MS-DOS.
Knowing that they are now Linux is a good bit of information.
What most people don't get is that that cute, slim-line print kit that they slid in the back of there copy machine is, in fact, made out of lap top parts and running DOS. Any multifunction print system is a computer with a printer & scanner attached, and should be treated thusly.
Insightful. I had a similar issue with accounting software two years ago (and I am an accountant). Way back I used Quicken and MS Money, to take care of my checkbook at home. Back when this started it was an electronic checkbook, and a cool one at that. As accounting software got 'better' and had more features it became more and more useless to me. Then two years ago at work I had trouble with the accounting software and my boss (with a PhD in accounting) said, "Skip the computer and use a 'green sheet,'" (Green sheets are the term used for old ledger pages, in either five or nine columns) And a light went on. I have all the accounting software I need, OO.o calc. No mater what the accounting software dose, all it boils down to is a spreadsheet! So, for the past two years I have been using a checkbook spreadsheet and I have never looked back.
My wife did the same thing with her text documents. After lots of fighting with MS Word or OO.o write, she decided all she wanted was words on a page and switched to notepad.
The moral of the story is: It's still black ink on paper, so you don't need to upgrade.

Amen! I think TV would be a much better thing if things didn't drag on just because they can.

So, throw in a geiger-counter(sp) and a thermometer/barometer and you are set.
but the black finish and chrome highlights...It's a classic design.
ASL is more in the face/torso & body shifting. Fingers help, but they are not all of it.

Oh, so you know what is on the inside of a DALEK?
I can't help, I need to go get some power converters.
Jim? Jim diGriz? Is that you?

By that logic Jamie Hyneman is Adam Savages android...that would explain a lot.
Yes, but your statement is worthless without a working 'link Well, both of our statements are worthless until we get a working link.

I thought that was acid reflux?
