What exactly does Yahoo sell? Do they even have a mission statement? Personally I do not understand why they didn't sell to Microsoft when they had the chance.
"The environment minister's admission came as a new study claimed that severe air pollution in northern China had slashed life expectancies there by more than five years compared to the south, potentially robbing 500 million Chinese of a total of 2.5 billion years of life"
Get over your bias, and use whatever programming language needed for the job. I'll take a job doing PHP, perl, ruby, python, java, even actionscript. If I'm paid well, I'll learn it. My resume gives me the flexibility to get jobs using different languages, precisely because I'm not biased and have worked professionally in most of them.
According to the PDF, e-commerce plugins are in the list. I'm a bit surprised to see that, as I assumed developers would be thinking about security first with e-commerce.
I agree both countries will benefit and think it is an excellent idea to pursue. Too bad the two countries could not work together on this. However, I believe it was an invasion based on the news I read (in costa rica) and worldwide. As far as I can see from my brief search online, the international court of justice is still deciding the main issues and there has not been any substantial ruling yet.
The plan is on the BORDER of nicaragua and costa rica. The full story is far more interesting. Nicaragua invaded costa rica in 2010 for the sole reason of capturing a portion of the river that is going to be used for the canal. Because it is on the border, I fully expect Costa Rica will also reap benefits from this project.
* I have lived in Nicaragua and Costa Rica for past five years.
Very valid points. Maybe a hackathon should be only organized around new technology releases. I went to a 'hackathon' at Adobe years ago, which was an invitation only prerelease of actionscript 3. The new features were put to use, which made all of the finished projects unique and interesting.
So after I spent time reading your confidential email to a client, I see in your signature that it was a mistake and you would like me to call you on the phone?
How did they end up owning this patent? Alcatel-Lucent is not on the original patent. Also, now that the patent has been thrown out, what changes in here? I can't find anything in there showing its updated status.
Agreed. This is an opinion piece by some unknown author on some unknown site (to me). I found no bio info for the author on their site and question the professionalism of websites that cannot figure out how to update their copyright date (2011).
Firebug is a good reason to use it. I don't really understand your justification for not testing web design in Firefox, considering it has a decent following.
100,000 sounds like a lot of downloads, but I would bet that less than 10% will actually go through the process of printing one. Of those printed, many hobbyists will just do it to see if it's possible. How many people are going to be willing to fire one?

More important to the slashdot community would be how you feel about relationships with real dolls. [NSFW]
I suspect having a device that has only one purpose, as compared to a computer, it is much less likely to be compromised and much easier to detect.
You mean like Jeff Moss?
On the other hand, the founder is a consultant for homeland security and has invited the feds since the first year.
I get the feeling he works for a different part of the military based on his answers about Snowden.
I found this paragraph particularly fascinating:

McDonald's is being sued for allegedly paying less than minimum wage using this method.
How does google benefit by eliminating advertisement revenue? Where did this policy originate?

here is your answer.
Did anyone else misread the title and think of melting faces?

Okay, then ask the same patent question about open source hardware.

If I own an e-book, how is it illegal to use a text-to-speech program to hear it?

Here's a label for you: "This product contains no unicorns or radiation"
This reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson. One of my favorite interviews I've read on slashdot.
