What exactly does Yahoo sell? Do they even have a mission statement? Personally I do not understand why they didn't sell to Microsoft when they had the chance.

Get over your bias, and use whatever programming language needed for the job. I'll take a job doing PHP, perl, ruby, python, java, even actionscript. If I'm paid well, I'll learn it. My resume gives me the flexibility to get jobs using different languages, precisely because I'm not biased and have worked professionally in most of them.

I agree both countries will benefit and think it is an excellent idea to pursue. Too bad the two countries could not work together on this. However, I believe it was an invasion based on the news I read (in costa rica) and worldwide. As far as I can see from my brief search online, the international court of justice is still deciding the main issues and there has not been any substantial ruling yet.

  13. Costa Rica will benefit on Nicaragua Gives Chinese Firm Contract To Build Alternative To Panama Canal · · Score: 1

The plan is on the BORDER of nicaragua and costa rica. The full story is far more interesting. Nicaragua invaded costa rica in 2010 for the sole reason of capturing a portion of the river that is going to be used for the canal. Because it is on the border, I fully expect Costa Rica will also reap benefits from this project. * I have lived in Nicaragua and Costa Rica for past five years.

Very valid points. Maybe a hackathon should be only organized around new technology releases. I went to a 'hackathon' at Adobe years ago, which was an invitation only prerelease of actionscript 3. The new features were put to use, which made all of the finished projects unique and interesting.
