Sandwiched between two substrates each 130 mm "thin"?
Or, as other pointed out, there are few universes where diameter is measured in height. This universe is usually not one of those.
Did you think it was a ball?
Well, you know that portage downloads and compile all the apps that you need?
You know what, apt downloads and installs binary packages in mostly the same way. You don't have USE flags, but it's FAR from that and the "dependency hell" problem you mention.
Tried it, went to sleep, went to work, got home, still couldn't use the machine, cursed a bit, rebooted into debian, and ran "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade" while swinging in my chair and laughing manically.
I personally prefer debian testing/unstable, since I have more control over the system.
But I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner. It's a bit too complex for that, and with distro's like ubuntu why even care?
Ubuntu/mepis/knoppix IS debian, they've just specialized. Debian is ALL of those, but it's up to you to pick things together to a finished, usable system. And most users have no idea what they want.
I really tried to get a good sense of which desktop was "better" and would be supported in the coming years. I was never able to get a good answer.
Congratulations, you just found out why there are so many window managers! Because none of them are "best". Instead, you can pick the one that fits your use and your machine best.
And windows UI have its pro and cons too. It's just that you don't even get a choice there, so you don't really think about it.
No, no, I think it's a great idea! At the same time we should also put such a tax on television, radios, home stereos, cellular phones, generally everything that have a speaker.
And why stop there? We should also put the tax on dvd players, the gaming consoles, cd cover manufacturers, projectors, paper (any idea of how many great poems and writings have been ripped as.. err from good song texts?), cars (can put music playing stuff in it, or even dvd!), and of course chairs!
What an amazingly brilliant idea, don't you think?
Oh, and everything I've written here is of course covered in my new patent. Feel free to use it, I won't enforce it until I can get some serious money out of it.

Was it THAT bad?
Their own APT server containing only well tested packages, and then point all the 14.000 machines to that server? With a nightly cron job running apt?
Dunno if it would actually scale, but it's certainly a good possibility it would.
Eh... let me see if I got this right.. It got gbit connection on one side, and is meant for a typical dsl connection on the other side?
Wow! I need to find these guys and sell them a bridge or two!
"apt-cache search "
you also got "apt-cache show " to see information (name, description, version and so on) about a specific package.
"man apt-cache" for more info
or, if you use kde, "man:/apt-cache" in konqueror.
Dependency hell? apt? Are you drunk?
Well, you know that portage downloads and compile all the apps that you need?

and -march=486 IIRC.
So it will work on everything from a 486 and up, but are optimized for modern architecture.
It's not that hard to do, even for lazy sysadmins.
;-p
Ooh, great! Could you do a quick howto, or even better, an automated shell script?
Of course you do, HHGTTG have a chance of not being a disappointment, while with SW:RotS is pretty much guaranteed that it will be.
Napster Bad.
It's statistics, it's not meant to be real.

Hey, dude, the only reason those distro's are up there is only because they stand on the shoulders of the debian giant.
Welcome to this side of the fence.
And stuff like that is rather normal around here.
Sad, aint it?
Longhorn?
Tell them you're running Debian S.I.D - that should fix it ;-)

And how often do you run mozilla/firefox on a SERVER?
If it's a desktop, you should probably be running sarge/testing anyway.
And a year from now, Debian might even have it in the unstable branch.
So they've finally given up finding intelligent life in America, eh?
Ok, let 10 Joe's do that. Now let 10 Joe's change WM in linux. See any difference?
If you have enough technical know-how you should be able to manage where your files are on the system
And we all know that all windows users are technical, right?
I still hold a small hope that one day the sun will shine, and Microsoft will add an open source file system to it, like for example reiserfs.
If they were really thinking about their customers, they should have done something like that ages ago.
