*User friendliness.
-From my experience, seeing how my non-techy dad handles things, I can't really say that linux is harder than windows. Especially with distro's like ubuntu, suse and fedora, where everything is taken care of.
*Cleaning up the kernel some.
-Can't directly say either for or against, what exactly are you thinking on?
*Device manufacturer acceptance.
-Agree with that one. It's a chicken-and-egg problem, really.
That teddy bear thing is entirely in the wrong direction.
Technology should enable people to have more spare time, and to be able to have more real, in person time with their kids, not giving them more excuses to bury themselves in work.
You mean something like okle?
And mplayer doesn't have GUI? Granted, it's not compiled by default, but it's easy to enable, and binary packages usually include it.
Ok, lets go into the rabbit hole for a moment, and assume this thing will live up to its hype..
What will it do for our everyday security? How secure will our encryption be? Will 3des be breakable in near realtime? Will SSL be safe anymore? Or even AES 128 bit? or 256bit? Our GPG keys? Digital certs? How much computing power is needed to break those, and how much does one cell give?
How much computing power can one person, or a small group be able to grab? Think about it. A guy borrows some playstations from some friends. How much can he do with that? Or one working in a shop, and borrows a few? Or certain shady organizations.. How much can they afford to buy in, and how much damage can they do with it?
I'm taking the "worst possible outcome" approach here, and I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid.. Could some enlightened souls please tell me how foolish I am, so I can sleep easily at night?
What happens the day it's extra cold outside, and my hands are half frozen? Or when I cut myself in the finger and have a plaster on, enough to confuse the system? Or when I have an object in one hand and types with 1 hand and 1 finger? Or....
Ok, so debian might be a bit hard to install and get running for home users. But that's where Ubuntu comes into the picture. The power of debian without the hassle. I'm just gleefully waiting for the next version to come out right now, as the first release had a few rough edges:-)
But yeah, stability got much better with the winnt line (especially win2k).
Altrough U got a few IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD's.. Usually, as you say, a driver error. But very sporadic. Can do multiple installs with the same software and hardware, even with the same drivers, and it will pop up in a few of the installations.
*Cue the "I think he used both hands" joke*
I would at least dualboot. Haven't tried OSX yet, so can't really say.
But, three people I know have already thrown out OSX in favor of linux on their mac's..
And miss out on all this good entertainment? No way
Including the power net.

Ok. I admit it, I didn't understand more than 5 words there, and I loved every second of it!
"People would probably be loathe to use this to pay for something, if they have to touch a contact point that's been touched by everyone before them."
You mean like doorknobs, handrails, shopping carts and similar?
"Also, there's the possibility that someone could pick up your auth sig from a handrail or doorknob or something..."
Challenge/response. No replay attacks. Pretty basic security stuff, really.
This card will have 4 duel core 6 Ghz processors and allow Gnome to run at normal speeds.
:-(
Ouch! I was drinking, and almost ruined my keyboard reading that
I guess the morale of the story is: Don't drink and slashdot
UserFriendly's take on VUI

As a friend of mine said: "Linux do suck, it just sucks less [than Windows]"
I actually feel a bit sorry for you.
Cool.

Thanks, but no thanks.

And certainly not Windows.
So what's left? Mac? A gameboy?
couldn't you just base64 or something the cipher first?
;-)
And if anyone asks, it's "th3 n3w l33t-sp34k"
woops. s/ U / I / - amazing how much one letter can change the meaning of it :-)
actually, I had a dodgy partition table :-)

Just want to mention http://gambas.sourceforge.net/ and also http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net/
Just remember, it ain't us customers buying, it's the companies selling. And they DON'T want you to think before you click "purchase".
Actually, I don't think they want you to think at all; just drool a little and buy the shiniest, most expensive thing they have.
HAH, n00b. Mine support ROT26!
