The success of C has been largely due to the fact that it makes one basic assumption that no other language aside from Assembler ever made: The programmer is always right.
Modern C++ is getting further and further from its origins as an alternative precompiler to C. Valid C code is no longer valid C++ code as it once was. I think most C programmers would welcome a few additions to or improvements on the language such as objects and additional memory allocators, but once you start telling a C programmer "No, you can't pass that value in there" or placing restrictions on the programmer you wind up limiting their freedom to code effectively and you get away from the purpose of a compiler, which is to make programming easier.
Yes, strongly-typed languages prevent mistakes from getting into the code, but the purpose of a compiler is not to prevent mistakes: that's the programmer's responsibility.
I've stopped coding in C++: I'm going back to C. Of course, Objective C is looking more and more appealing, since it's been a part of gcc for a few years...
I'm surprised noone's made a script to automatically start registering every US number. I just re-entered my phone numbers and was surprised that you only have to enter your phone number and click on a confirmation link in an email to register. There's no verification that the number is yours or even a captcha. It would be very easy for someone to game this system.
Then again, that might be the perfect excuse for the telemarketing industry to call for a lengthy and expensive overhaul of the system and wind up screwing us all...

Forward all spam received as-is to spam@uce.gov and to uce@ftc.gov. Although I don't know what they do with it once received, these are the FTC's official spam-reporting email addresses. Theoretically they'll go after the guys who are spamming you sooner or later, but I still get spam from the same losers who were sending it to me six months ago, so we'll see.
isn't a non-profit a non-profit, no matter what kind of ads they run?
I can see it now... Wal-Mart's non-profit subsidiary, "The Friends of Sam Walton" (not a real charity) using their non-profit status to reduce Wal-Mart's advertising costs by over 50%.
I'm afraid checks and balances have to be in place, even if they occasionally slow something like Firefox down.
it sounds more to me like the programmer is disappointed with election results and wants to pretend he's a whistleblower
Yes, but he's sworn under affidavit. I say we put an end to this quickly by disassembling the code to see if it's true. If it is true then this is something every American should be concerned with -- Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, or Anarchist.
Criminals should not be allowed to hone their talents while doing time.
The penal system should try and make sure their "bad guy" skill-sets are at least a *little* rusty when they inenvitably get out.
Hmmm... let me get this straight: you take all of a particular area's criminals, and then to keep them from committing more crimes, you put them together where they can communicate, as well as exchanging ideas, experiences, and notes, and then expect them to come out rusty?? That's just brilliant.
We keep hearing about all these threats to our civil liberties, but how do we take action to prevent them from passing? Who do we contact, and what do we say? What's the best way to raise a poopstorm?

C! C! A thousand times C!
Dear God,
Fuck you, too.

that this is FUD paid for by Microsoft.

Nerds tend to have shit for marketing skills, distribution knowhow and financing.
I wonder if this cloning business would eventually result in DNA evidence being inadmissable in court.
Not a bad value for those of us who do low-intensity work like back-end web development and don't have huge libraries of MP3s.
"FUD in Space"
Try telling that to the bridesmaids.

There is not a single scientific fact that contradicts that the sun one day will burn out and die.
For that we have ten thousand years. Our budget will not hold out that long.

What happened to keeping track of politicians?
I seem to recall that it was that shady lot people used to be concerned with keeping tabs on.
Thanks for the information -- I had no idea.
I also had no idea that Las Vegas was in California.

Such as HavenCo.
Natalie Portman isn't president of Russia yet -- except in Japan -- but she will be as soon as Duke Nukem Forever comes out.
Worst meme ever.
I believe that involves a boot.
Firecrackers.
Or maybe like Google News it will stay unmonetized.
So what are we going to do about it?
