New as in clickwheel? That's what we both have. You can add and delete songs on a Windows iPod using a Mac. What you can't do is update the firmware. Unless I'm misunderstanding the dialogue that popped up indicating that the iPod must be updated with the Windows updater.
I gues it was a smart move for the iPOd to work with Windows and Macs?
My sister has a Windows formatted iPod that I loaded for her (ripped all her CDs to the iPod). This weekend she came over to pick up her CDs. I ripped a couple more for her and was about to update the firmware, but I couldn't. While Macs can read the Windows formatted drive, they can't update the firmware.
What happens when people plug their iPod into their new Mac and find they can't update it?
I guess it's possibly a non-issue because you can transfer songs to the Mac and then reformat and resync. It's still an issue that I imagine the Genius Bar will be dealing with.
"A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 miles per hour. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field (A) multiply it by the probable rate of failure (B) then multiply the result by the average out of court settlement (C). A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of the recall, we don't do one."
It all comes down to money. Personally, the low number of incidents does make this pretty insignificant.
I predict that in a few years time we'll learn that xCode secretly embeds spy-code to harvest key logs and other user data. This secret code will be activated April 1st in the year 2006 and upload all collected data to Apple's iTunes division. The harvested data will allow Apple to create THE killer song for your iPod, which by then will interact directly with you brain. This song will control you and bend your listening ways to the financial gain of Apple. 7 days later Bungie will buy Microsoft and release a version of Windows that is really amazing, but doesn't let you finish any documents or loading of web pages. Finally, Bill Gates will reveal himself as demon spawn from Bizaro world come to our world to spread flowers. Having gained control of the world's iPod listening consumers, Apple will return to the alternate dimension to deploy their iTunes Kenny G Music Store. Unfortunately, it's overrated, cliched, and lacking in table manners.
What? I was there this summer and it was still running. It was my favorite ride. Just sit back and relax. You actually get goin' pretty fast. As we came around one time we told the guy we were just gonna take another trip. There's plenty of space and little crowd draw.
You can make playlists on the player. It's limited but hold the center button the next time you have a song/album/artist/whatever selected. Now go to playlists. At the bottom is "On the Go". You can add more and eventually save the list.
I'm sick of seeing all the advertising complaints. And I've only been here for 4 frickin months!
Look, not only is the world run by money (yeah, there's OSS and all that, but it doesn't pay the bills (in most cases anyway)) but almost every/. post is gonna involve a commercial endeavor in some way.
Sheesh, and I bet you thought that the previous story about the HL2 servers being overloaded was not only free advertising for Valve, because it gets the name out there, but it was also advertising for Bungie because they're product isn't marred by any such problems.
Well, it's all over for me...

The Music Man

· Score: 1
Great, he's publicly stating that he uses Macs to do his work. Now I can't claim that Macs can't be used to file share as my defense.
I still have a box somewhere that I'll pull out for my kids when I have 'em. I would follow practice of building the intentioned model and then figuring what similar things I could make followed by something with no resemblance and then followed by something completely different with no resemblance. After that stage, the blocks joined the pile. I remember building bridges that spanned my living room and at one point I think I built a Ghostbusters pack, though that may have been with Constructs. I still have the RotJ Endor speeder bike that I built (about 6" long) on my desk at home. Man, I can't wait 'til I get to see what my kids will create.

Halo 2 Released
·
· Score: 5, Interesting
The ending is so unsatisfying you'll be screaming for Halo 3 before your controller hits the floor. The most blatant plug for a sequel I've ever seen.
I doubt too many here will catch the reference but the first thing that popped into my head when I saw "pfft" was: "The colony has been wiped out. Phhht! Just like that."
Phhht indeed! Gone are the hallowed Bungie days of lore which held an interesting and engaging storyline high on the list of gaming interests. I guess Bungie has truly abandoned their roots for multiplayer driven, rather than story driven, games.
Aleph One, you are my savior.
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed playing Halo and I'm sure the multiplayer is fantastic. It's just sad to see Halo storyline turn into Halo 2.
I can't believe the argument I had with a guy over camera features when I got mine. "Well, you can get this one with more digital zoom (zero optical) and 4 mega-pixel capture instead of the 8x optical, 3 mega-pixel, cheaper camera..." "I don't care about the mega-pixel difference" "Yeah, but it'll give you better quality pictures..." "I don't care about the pixels. I researched these cameras and the one you're offering is crap (well, I wish I had said 'crap')." "Yeah, but the mega-pixels p0wn you." "Just gimme the box." "Fine... Can I interest you in this warranty? Ahhhhhhhh"
Actually, Halo was born on the Mac. Then Bungie was bought by Microsoft and it came out for the XBox. I'd say Halo WAS meant to be played on a computer.
Actually Disney's hand animation department is gone. Their last hand animated movie, which is what I assume you mean by "normal" was that farm thing...um Home on the Range.
yep, the quote would be similar to the following scenario. place a tennis ball on the table a few feet in front of a bowling ball place yourself a few feet in front of the tennis ball from where you are, the bowling ball has a diameter around twice that of the tennis ball. obviously the real diameters are significantly different, but the distance involved distorts this.
Hmm, could be. Based on their location though (Rockport, MA which was very much Finn inhabited) I don't think they would have faced treatment to the extent you're referring to. I'll have to check though.

so many different messages that makes me want to post...
- shhhhh
- haha, good point
ps. it's nice how Slashdot makes this look like it's in response to the quote post and not the AC who didn't get it.
The point is that companies actually use these formulas to calculate whether to do a recall or not. Well, that and it's a nice quote.
And it was the Narrator, not Tyler.

I suppose I'll soon be seen as normal for wearing my pants inside out?

OR perhaps all the stories originated from one actual occurance, but have become distorted through years of relay from one generation to the next.
Pfft, I'd just break the blocks off and re-build the cube.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Did I just see the phrases "college student" and "disposable income" in the same sentence?

Maybe it'll be Princess Buttercup?

hmm, someone from outside the US cares more about the US than someone from the US... doesn't surprise me.
Maybe they'll just play Monty Python a bit more on the BBC
