    I'm sorry, but as a mechanical adding machine guy, it's really hard to watch a computer guy get a chuckle at somebody else given their chosen platform's inferiority and not have a chuckle about it myself.

    I work in retail (in America) and checks are used almost exclusively by the elderly, but they use them indiscriminately. I have occasionally had people buy a single greeting card with a check.

    If there is one thing I have learned about the economy (from my amateur standpoint), it's that each economic school never makes policies and predictions that work for a long period of time. The "Keynesian" policies that started around the '30s failed in the '80s when there was both unemployment and inflation, and "Chicago School" policies have failed more recently, but both of them worked relatively well for a short period of time.

    (Proponents of each system might argue that they were never implemented fully, hence the quotes)

    Don't point that out to your date, of course, since she'll be more impressed by knowledgeable sneering, especially if everyone in the seats around you can hear what a smart guy she's with.


    I don't know what kind of dates this guy has, but I don't think any date I have had would want me to talk through a movie and nitpick on every little detail.

    I have noticed too. At first only stories with a surfeit of comments (like 800+) loaded slowly, now it takes a long time to load any story. According to the fasterfox plugin, it took 56.7 seconds to load the page to post this comment
