This is the same kind of nonsense that realtors use. They'll list a house, but not the price, in hopes that people will call them. If the house is too expensive for the caller then the realtor can try to find something else.

Sure, it's a good way to get more contacts but I don't care. I don't want to waste my time calling someone if I can't afford it in the first place. Just give me the information and let me make my own decision if I can afford it or not. Stop with all the cloak and dagger crap.

Agreed. Maybe FOX hasn't been hit by it so to to them it's not a big story. However, it is news regardless if it happens to a journalist or not and should be covered.

You are correct in that when it happens to journalists it somehow seems to be the most important thing going on at that time. Which to them it is because it happened to them.

It's the typical human (or any animal) response. Something happens to you and that's all you care about for a time.

Dani is full of shit. I did watch CNN and their tech guy (can't remember his name right now) tried to explain the difference between a worm and a virus. He even said he'll probably hear from some tech 'experts' who will take him to task for not getting it right but he did his best to make it as simple as possible so everyone could understand. So no, they weren't calling it a virus.

Further, this worm CAN affect XP SP2 under certain conditions. In fact, on Microsofts own page the second entry is for XP SP 1 AND XP SP 2. Microsoft even provides the link for the patch for these systems.

Still further, constant rebooting of a machine may cause data loss depending on the system. It's rare but it can happen.

The article was nothing more than a stab at CNN rather than an actual report on something. In fact, the last sentence proves my point:

Although I hate to say this, FOX News hasn't even touched this story.

So? FOX doesn't touch any story that might bring bad news. They haven't even reported on the newest bombings in Baghdad because that would be contrary to all the 'good' news that's coming out of that hellhole.

If CNNs story seemed a bit overhyped and not totally correct, so be it. If it gets people to go patch their machines then that's a good thing.

I've been giving presentations to various sized groups since about the same time. In fact, just a few weeks ago I had to do a 45 minute cross-training presentation to some of our field techs and then answer questions afterward.

I've been able to diagnose problems over the phone without ever having been to the location and explain to the person (usually someone my parents age) what went wrong and how to prevent it.

If you think that having kids somehow qualifies you to be a brilliant teacher with all the answers, think again. If the day should ever come that I have kids you can be rest assured that every question they have will be answered regardless of how old they are.

By your logic kids should be sheltered from everything and anything. I'm presuming from your statement that your childhood was the one that was screwed up and now you're passing it along to your kids who will probably repeat this process if/when they have kids.

Yes, it does. Freedom of Speech means just that. You are free to say anything you want excluding the proverbial 'Fire!' in a crowded theater (or any other place) or if you slander someone (though you can actually slander someone you will probably go to court for saying it).

You apparently consider the saying of the words 'ass' and 'tit' to be vulgar. I don't. So what's vulgar to you is not the same as what's vulgar to me.

Do you consider someone from the KKK saying that blacks are nothing but monkeys or that hispanics are nothing but lazy, job-stealing wetbacks?* Too bad. Those comments are protected by the First Amendment.

No, I don't have kids but protecting kids from what you consider to be unsavory isn't the way to go. Exposing kids to everything allows them to become well-rounded adults who are aware of everything. It is up to you to instill upon them your own values and explain to them why you consider pornography bad. Simply saying 'Don't watch/look at that stuff. It's bad.' isn't a good enough reason for kids.

Freedom of Speech means anyone can say what they want (minus the exceptions I listed). It means the freedom to say the good, the bad and the ugly.

It's not just medicine that this phenomenon is occuring. The ridiculous debate over trying to include Intelligent Design in biology classes as a valid theory (which it's not) falls into the same category.

The biggest problem is the lack of critical thinking by people today. Most people don't want to dig into a subject to see if what someone is saying has any validity. Instead, they try to find someone who has written something which fits their viewpoint and then go about touting it as the truth.

There are many reasons for this not the least of which is the overall education system in this country but parents aren't blameless either. Instead of challenging their children from an early age to question and explore everything around them, parents are more interested in what video game or DVD to get them.

There's a reason the scientific process is used in all areas. It allows for the cruft to be sifted out and what remains should be repeatable or verifiable facts. Instead, people don't want to listen to facts. They just want to believe what they want.

There's a saying I've said for a very long time: People do what they do because that's what people do. As this article points out, it's a very valid saying.

Funny you should mention finding Coke only in plastic bottles. In his book, What Einstein told his Cook, Robert Wolke answers the question as to why soda goes flat in plastic bottles.

The reason is that the plastic is slightly permeable to gasses and since it's the C02 which gives soda its fizz, over time the gas leaks out, thus turning soda flat. That is why there is a sell-by date on soda.

You don't have this issue with glass since glass is not gas permeable.

As a side note, I refuse to drink beer if it comes from a tap since there is a distinct aluminum taste to it. Same for canned beer. I only drink beer from glass bottles even if it costs more (which it invariably does).
