wtf does 'source based' mean? all the stuff you get on a Fedora ISO was compiled at some point.. you just choose the right version (64 bit) and go on your way.

Means that you download and compile your software packages in-situ instead of waiting for your distro of choice to offer packages precompiled for 64-bits systems. Like the parent poster said, a lot of Linux distro don't offer 64-bit binaries (as of yet), but in a source based distro this is a non issue. Zealot my ass.

Am i the only person on Earth who enjoyed that film (a lot)? It was no Citizen Kane, but was a fairly good adaptation of the comic, with some superb moments - like the fight with the russian or the family slaugther scene.

I saw it on DVD recently and i can't figure why it did so bad as they say. It was far, far more entertaining than other recent comic adapatations (Elektra, Daredevil, etc).

The interesting thing is he can't, even if he wanted to. There are thousands of copyright holders on different bits of Linux. They've all licensed their code under the GPLv2 only. Each one would have to be contacted if Linus wanted to change the license. It's an impossible task.

Exactly. For the Linux kernel, this is (at this point, atleast) a non-issue. What would happen in the future as new software adopts the new GPL license would be more interesting.

Someone before said that it's like presenting GPLed software as "free as in speech... as long as you're saying what we want you to say!"; i couldn't agree more. If they're to do this, it's a dumb move.

And the second part of podcasting is it gives amateurs a chance to compete against established, big-budget radio programs, because the budget requirements are vastly diminished (bandwidth is cheaper than an FCC license and a radio tower).

Ok, repeat after me... this will be easy, ok?

        PODCASTING IS NOT RADIO.

I wasn't dissing podcasting, in case you missed it, but as long as we're getting into it; yes, this is what bugs me. Podcasting is not live. Podcasting is delivering prerecorded audio clips via RSS for convinient download. That's it. The Shoutcast boom a few years ago was more comparable to radio than podcasts will ever be. Listening to someone pretending to be doing radio over God knows how many takes completely ruins the experience for me.

Look, if you like podcasts, hey, more power to you. Seriously. I don't, and there's no need to get nasty over it, we're all grown ups. But podcasting is not "revolutionary", neither a new technology.

  23. Re:What tipped me in the direction of Aluminum on High-End Aluminum PC Cases Make A Comeback · · Score: 4, Informative

Not really - your computer heats the air inside the case, and not the case itself. Unless the parts generating more heat are attached directly to it (like the CPU), it won't really make much of a difference.
Even stuff like hard disk (which are bolted to the case) will be cooled pretty much the same if the case is made of Al, steel or whatever, as there's enough mass to deal with it. Aluminium will move the heat quicker, giving you a couple of degrees less, and that's it.

It will also irradiate poorly (being metal gray in color, instead of black).

Solely "delivering" by web page would defeat the point and make it harder to get. I don't think you've actually taken the time to notice that most podcasts are also "delivered" by a plain vanilla web page, but that is beside the point.

I did - my brother likes podcasts a lot and usually downloads old shows from their website directly. Point is - it's still downloading audio clips from the web. RSS just automatizes the process.

And "harder"? Come on... if you like a weekly show you can get up your ass and click on a link every Monday :). I agree that RSS makes it quite more handy, but there's hardly anything new or innovative about the whole process.
