I remember having the same problem playing Elite on a 25mhz 486sx Packard Bell! Luckily the computer had a key-combination you could use to slow it to 4.77mhz.
If the software is complex enough to require "numerous software upgrades", then it is complex enough to have bugs. And it seems to me that not all bugs would necessarily show up under testing.
I second that!
I get more complaints due to word defaulting to READING LAYOUT on various forms then all other Office issues combined. This was never a problem back when we had Office 2000.
That may be for the average copy being sold, but consider these as extra sales that they wouldn't normally have. That way, you don't have to count any development expenses against these copies. Really, all they have to spend to provide this software is a few dollars for having the cds pressed and packaging.
Just last week, a friend of mine's bank account was overdrawn on her payday even though she had direct deposit.
What happened is that someone used a fake id and her bank account number to cash $15,000 in fake money orders at two local banks. She didn't have even a thousand dollars in her account, but the banks gave the cash in "good faith". Well, now the bank is refusing to remove the 15,000 debit on her account and their only advice to her is to "borrow the 15,000 from your relatives and pay us back". She has already opened a new account at another bank, but I fear she may never get her paycheck the bank swallowed or the 15,000 off of her credit report.
On top of all that, after contacting the FBI, she was told that they won't even bother to investigate this crime. The agent said that other people have been scammed for millions and that her 15,000 isn't even worth it.
She is having a hard time getting any information on what the bank is doing to investigate this, but from what she can tell they are saying it's her problem because it is her account.
Actually, your monitor's screen is quite easy to damage. It is much like the window tint on a car. (I discovered this after a kitten scratched my screen and I tried to buff the scratch out. I ended up having to peel plastic off the entire screen. After all that, my black levels sucked and I was probably getting irradiated at dangerous levels.)
So would you consider installing illegal copies of Win98 on old computers that you give to poor people unacceptable? Should I just never give them a computer? Should I give them a computer with Ubuntu that they would never know how to use or add a printer too?
What are your thoughts?
Even if I DO eventually have to pay for, say, slashdot, I'll pay. ESPECIALLY if there's no ads.
Exactly. I will gladly pay a reasonable fee for services and sites that are worth a dam. I also wouldn't mind paying a reasonable fee to download TV episodes with out the commercials provided they where available as soon as they air on tv.
It seems that the only real benefit of a distributed PAR system would be that more bits of the file are out there for you to pull from. That could be easily duplicated in BT by forcing everyone to have a share ratio of 1.25 or higher before they can disconnect.
I too just watched the original series on VHS. I kind of liked the old VHS ambience. It made me feel like I was back in the 70s watching the series for the first time. As an added bonus, I also got to see Han shoot first and all the original explosions.
instead of typing anything, cut and paste your password using characters copied from a website. You could even paste the characters in a random order if you think the keylogger is tracking the clipboard.
I wonder if the real reason for extending the copyright to 100 years is so there won't soon be completely legal rampant sharing of some of the best music ever produced. Why pay money for new crap when you can have a free catalog of all of the music from the 60s?
Now that I think of it, does this mean all of the music up to 1955 is now public domain? If so, someone should start a legal torrent site of public domain albums up through 1955.
I'd mod you up if my points didn't just expire. You are right on the money about the stores bitching about the smart consumers while they scam every dollar they can from everyone else.
Maybe instead of a large number of batteries, they could use a Diesel-Electric Hybrid. much like trains do. I'm sure it would be a more practicle solution than thousands of pounds of batteries.
I had an NEC 525 that, regardless of use, would be fully discharged within 32 hours. If you ever forgot to charge it over-night, it was guaranteed to die around noon the next day. My gf's NEC 515 was the same way.
I since replaced that phone with a Nokia 3595 from ebay and it has yet to run out of power on me. As an added bonus, it has much better reception.
I suppose the NEC phones are probably just a horrible design, but nothing in the literature looked any different than any other phones, ie. 5 day battery life, etc.

Maybe because there aren't any $350.00 PDAs with 30 gig hds?

Why not just have every computer index itself. You could then have everything on the internet indexed in days.
I second that!

Thanks for that... a good laugh is just what I needed after reading up on this tragedy for the last few hours.

Not only that, but what does MS really lose? Even selling their software at substantially less than market value, they are still making 90% profit.
Heh, I had to give up on that game because I ran out of money and bullets and couldn't get past some automated defensive gun with my melee weapon. :(

Yeah, because if i theoretically used some downloaded copy of Autocad for 30 minutes, it would taint your brand-new and purchased copy of Autocad.
And what if your slot screwdriver was made of wax? Sorry, but crappy tools can make a job very difficult, if not impossible.
Heheheh... where's my damn mod points when I need them?

My model also solves the Grandfather Paradox.
It's called "time travel doesn't exist".
LOL
