You're wrong about Classic. In Classic, Mac OS 9 is actually running. If OS X were to run XP apps like it runs OS 9 apps, it would require an actual installation of XP.

To sum up an answer to the flames, I will say this: These are designed to regulate freedom of movement, which I view as a fundamental right. Notice, on Wikipedia, how long the "Criticisms" are in comparison to the "arguments in favor."

  3. Absolutely not on Are National ID Cards a Good Idea? · · Score: 3, Insightful

These things do almost nothing but enable the governement to trample individual rights. This is a Very Bad Thing; the less data on me the government has, the happier I'll be; not because I'm a terrorist, but simply because I think that my civil rights are important.

  4. How does it know? on Store Your Own Juice · · Score: 5, Interesting

How does it know when prices are "low"? Does it have a hardcoded database that will be inaccurate in a few months, or does it observe-and-compare prices?

  5. No Sign Yet on Windows Vista To Make Dual-Boot A Challenge? · · Score: 5, Interesting

I've used every build of Vista or Longhorn ever released/leaked, and so far I have seen absolutely no extra "anti-Linux" default-disk-encryption thing. The bootloader also still works fine with chainloader +1. Since Vista has supposedly been "feature-complete" since build 5308 (now is on 5365), I'm not convinced this is anything but FUD.

  9. Necessary? on Thinking About Desktop Eyecandy · · Score: 0, Redundant

Is eyecandy really necessary? I can see that a GUI is necessary for non-computer-inclined users. But this is really getting silly. The GUI was created to make commands easier to access, not to be pretty. Anyone who has used Windows 1 or 2 knows that early GUIs were definitely NOT pretty. --A proud twm user

    Directory Structure:
Under the hood, the directory structure is complex. Aqua and the Terminal are like running two different operating systems, because neither will run programs for the other. OSX does have a /usr/bin. Apps are actually folders filled with all kinds of junk. Basically, OSX is UNIX with a prettier GUI then Linux.
