Yep same here. We got two of these with excitement but before they arrived had decided to send them back. No AD integration, no VPN or enterprise tools like Outlook, GTFO
Old PC + Vyatta Community Edition. ClearOS, Or many other open source routers. FreeNAS or OpenFiler for SAN duties WRT54G or newer device that can run full DD-WRT for an access point or router.
Back in the day to get higher read speeds some drives had multiple heads (up to 5 i think?) to rip at higher speeds. These were around the time disks would explode. I think we got up to 50x-70x read speeds back then. But yes, the majority have one head that may or may not include more than one laser such as a bluray drive.
I like a lot of it, but hate a lot of it too. They need to step up and re-double their effort for Windows 9 and do it yesterday. Fix some really, reaallyyyy stupid bugs that have plauged daily life in IT shops.
The start screen is a joke too. But you get over it, my co-workers have. We run Seven usually.
Its too bad that GPU acceleration on the VM world is so infantile right now. Hyper-V and VMWare can sorta do it OK but again, it has its issues and problems such as overhead or just not running all together (certain apps want certain cards.)
No one in a business is going to drop $4000 on a card to render kitty videos faster for the accounting department, no, these are for CAD and design engineers who want to go thin client.
This is depressing. I had a Palm (color) that could run circles around this, had brilliant color (compared to none) and could do the same things much much easier and then some, for a mear $110 +$7~ for the software. Keep going america!
I agree. I had a cart full of WD Black 1.5TB Drives for $67.99 each like the week of the flood. I was going to buy 5 of them for a RAID10 + HS setup, but they shot up over $140 each so forget it.
Its a shame too. Around the AMD Athlon X2 era they were ahead of intel in every way. My dual-core Athlon X2 was faster and power sipping at 45W where intel was at 95W for their crappy Pentium D's. AMD lost its way somewhere, heres hoping they get it back.
No, I'm not WOZ but if you ever watch or read anything on the history of this you'd learn that he was very apt on the bill of materials. He succeeded by combining many parts into one to save on cost and complexity.
Oh no there are clear bugs along with a truckload of poor choices. My favorite is mouse scrolling in metro is horribly jerky and laggy but the scroll bar is butter smooth and I'm sure so is touch - the only thing I bet they tested...
This is dumb, it only fractures the market more and opens them up to the Grate Fone Warz. Why not help finish reactos and BeOS clones? I mean for real, why piddle over pointless junk that 12 nerds will buy and they'll get sued or bought out over? Derp!
I messed with it a lot in Tribes 2. So I can only assume it has gotten better but: Its net code was not tied to frame rendering and was object oriented from the get-go. Had a built in world editor that worked while live games were running. You could prop a server up and edit the world real-time. Supported scripting and compiled it on the fly for faster run-times had the best vehicle code I've seen outside of a racing game...
Hopefully one can learn this, perhaps consider publishing, and then license it for $100 still. That'd be great!
Ha! I try to support local vendors and growers. For farmers markets and the like, I cant recommend anyone else. As for other local shops and the like, they charge more (computer repair/parts, auto, tools, groceries) for less value. What I mean is that they are equal or less in quality, and their service is usually mean and or non caring like they dont need my money or desire to help me to make extra sales. I was flat out told that I "dont need a new computer" when he had no idea what for (a media center, new addition) and I responded by saying I guess what you dont need is money and left.

When I get a better experience on a $120 tablet from Wal-mart why not.
The surface tablets were marketed as being 100-200 dollar devices, and no word about being locked down as bad as they are.
A guy even wrote an x86 exe stack for the RT but microsoft cant? thats pathetic.
I'm sure there are reasons, but at least try!

It is what it is.
I picked up some drives for testing, and HP's are rebranded LiteON drives that, both are stupid-loud and sound like they'll explode.
Parent used IE to surf the web, clearly.
What about linux? Think of the penguins!

I just purchased 4 of said 6850 for about $105 a pop. What rocks do you live under good sir?

Hurray for more space garbage!!
Why did they include the drone picture - its horribly fuzzy and I get nothing of value from it. The picture of earth from the moon, I do like a LOT.

Get off my lawn AC

What? This writing reaks of the Grate Book of MOO.
The title gives the impress "thanks for reading, we're shutting down /. kthxbi"
as always, tl;dr

Some men just want to watch the world burn...

Sure it may draw faster but I can load 5 other office programs by the time Metro Mail loads. Maybe uh, work on that.
