I agree there should be a more elegant way to detect submarines. One thought that I had was that you bring both oceans to boiling and all the submarines in the ocean will pop to the top.
Actually there is only one ethical theory that states that morality has any bearing to do with a diety of any sort, the Devine Command Theory. The Devine Command Theory states that morality comes from God's or Gods' will, but it is easily debated against. Every other ethical theory is independant of a deity such as Deontology, Utilitarianism, Consequentialism, Virtue Ethical Theory or Egoism. All of these theories use an outside source for the basis of morality. Egoism = what ever is best for yourself, screw everyone else, Virtue = morality is what makes you the best person you want to be, Consequentialism = the ends justify the means, Utilitarianism = morality is what causes the greatest amount of pleasure for the greatest amount of people, Deontology = it's moral only if you can will it to be a universal maxim, ie the Golden Rule. Ok so yeah, alittle off topic, but it's annoying when people attribute morality to God alone. Thats like saying it would be moral to boil babies if God willed it to be so.
Another point to consider, the absolutly horrible quality of light from fluorescents. It has too much of a green tinge and tires the eyes due to the flickering.
Well assuming their using some sort of parabolic reflector to concentrate the sunlight into the pickup for the fiber-optics, tracking would be needed for the best amount of light, similar to a satelite dish. My thought for tracking though is not GPS based but instead use photo-resistors ringing the rim of the dish. Then move in the direction of the resistor that is receiving the greatest amount of light until all the resistors are getting the same amount. There would be some problems with this though. What if debris fell on a resistor or partial cloud cover?
No they'll just move over to FFXI cause we don't have enough gilsellers there.... That's of course if the server's ever come back online from the update.
well I just ran the numbers. Seems that an average sized commet of about 4x10 14 kg and this comet's closest point will exert about 60,000 times more of a gravitational force on the earth than a 100 kg man standing on the surface of the earth.
hmm, does that mean I need to stop working on my java project due tomorrow in class? I mean I followed the rules that said to wait till the last minute!
Another comparison would be the FBI hiring someone convicted of check fraud, as a teenager, to consult them in preventative measures. That would NEVER happen though...Oh what? They did? http://www.abagnale.com/aboutfrank.htm
We must all realize something though. In actuality there is no Florida, just Southern Georgia, Northern Cuba and the New York Colony. Unfortunately, I'm on the border between Southern Georgia and the New York Colony

HIGHLY ironic unfortunately

The Malthusian argument, populations increase exponentially yet resources generally increase only linerally
I vote this to be the funniest first post ever. Yeah I know, off topic
oh forgot to say, the actual forces are still VERY small

as an RA, I resent that, I'd contribute another $500 and up the stake to $1.6 million
and after posting this I just wondered, is it possible to slashdot slshdot but putting their link on slashdot? My head now hurts.
I seem to remember that the internet apparently already turned 35. Well heres the link to the slashdot post about it. So who's right, CNN or CBC? http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/08/29/225625 9&tid=95&tid=1
I do that as well, although for different reasons, my psych class is quite boring.

decrease? hell all the messages I get are about how to increase, 3-5 inches!
If you think this is such an important story (and I do), then why the annonymity?
...when you can just duck and cover?
