I'd have assumed space was... well... space. That it would be international "waters" for lack of a better term. How can any earth laws apply to conduct in space?
I know a couple people who just can't shut up, what should be a 3 minute phone call stretches into a half hour or longer. I'd love to have this option.
Also hear's something to think about:
Could quotas actually severely harm women in technology, by making people assume anyone who got hired and was female got the job due to the quota system, thus undermining their hard work?
I don't think you understand how these things work.
Personally, I don't think quotas are the answer... I think we need to go deeper into society to find why women aren't going into the sciences. I don't think it's because of discrimination, I think girls are just raised differently than boys from an early age to value different things. You can't undo that with quotas.
Look at for example, McDonald's happy meals. They'll often have some deal where girls get a barbie or princess toy, and boys get a race car or action figure. Subtle things like that can shape a kid.
"While yellowcake alone is not considered potent enough for a so-called 'dirty bomb' -- a conventional explosive that disperses radioactive material -- it could stir widespread panic if incorporated in a blast."
First off, my understanding is that a "dirty bomb" itself is a scare tactic: Only if a chunk of the bomb hit you would you be effected, and even then if all particles were removed you'd just have an increased cancer risk.
Second, if this yellowcake can't even be used in a dirty bomb, why all the fuss? Hell, a terrorist could probably wreak massive terror by setting off a conventional bomb and saying it was laced with some radioactive substance. Bonus points for detonating near someplace that would have slightly higher than normal radioactivity levels, such as a hospital or coal plant.
Secret Service?
They only would have jurisdiction is there was some sort of fraud or counterfeiting. Simple old theft is not a federal issue (unless the thieves transported the goods to be sold across state lines, and then it would still be an FBI issue)
For a second I had hoped the G8 might be addressing the >other piracy issue, namely the armed boarding and robbery of boats in areas such as Nigeria, Morocco, and Somalia
You know, where there are tangible goods being stolen and real people being murdered.
But I'm sure this software piracy issue is much more important.
Someone give me some possible downsides to solar energy.
I'm not being sarcastic - I've never heard this line of thought that solar energy is bad for the environment and would like to hear the reasoning behind it.
Texting is not an extravagance. It actually is probably good for phone companies, since the data in a text message is minuscule compared to that of even a 30 second phone conversation. It's like if at a fast food joint you order a combo that comes with a soda, and when went to the soda fountain, you had to put in an extra dollar to get plain water.
Current text messaging rates don't make sense. Period.
Most of mine/. has probably heard of (XKCD, Schneier on Security, XKCD, Penny Arcade, etc.)
But one is relatively unknow. It's called spill. They do these flash animated group reviews. Each movie is rates either "Bullshit", "Matinee", "Rental", or "Full Price".
In addition to being run by some true film buffs, the reviews themselves are usually pretty funny, especially since they tend to give shittier movies the MST3K treatment.
You and I are both like guys who had this rich neighbor - Xerox - who left the door open all the time. And you go sneakin' in to steal a TV set. Only when you get there, you realize that I got there first. I got the loot, Steve! And you're yellin'? "That's not fair. I wanted to try to steal it first." You're too late.

If I have an email or blog, can I move to OpenID login and keep my username, or do I have to make a whole new identity?

Any pollutants will be shot on sight!
E3 is the new Apple. It will continue to have its "final" conferences for at least 5 years by my guess.
I can't believe I'm using this quote in a linguistics argument...
Anyways here it gos: Sometimes "translating" a quote renders it's meaning useless. Great internet example? http://icanhascheezburger.com/2007/01/11/i-can-has-cheezburger/>LOLcats.

"Slap some big engines on it and you got yourself a spaceship" certainly sounds like typical Branson logic.
Would Nancy want a Republican congress disallowing Democratic congressmen from commenting on the issue?

Counterpoint: Canada.
No. I thought we've already created the roundest object in the world:
WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT
Would nuking it produce a similar effect?
>_>

A wizard did it.
You might think it's funny, but as a college tech major, Metal Gear Solid was the first time I heard of DARPA.
Can I get an ETA for how long until someone bricks one of these trying to wipe and install DD-WRT?
I really like Penny Arcade's comic about twitter.
Twitter seems useless to me. Maybe if my friends used it I might, but for now an away message or facebook status does the job just fine.
