More and more online purchases are for digital downloads, licenses, and other online services these days , they can't tax that.-
This is not true. While sellers involved in interstate sales cannot be forced to collect sales tax the BUYER is usually required to pay USE tax. Whether it is a physical book or digital download, BUYERS in almost all states are required to pay tax on these purchases. All three states I have lived in collect use tax on goods and services which were not subject to sales tax. Two of these states collected use tax in conjunction with annual income tax filing (however it is a separate tax). The third state, which does not collect income tax, requires residents to complete a form and make a payment for use tax every year. While many people are unaware or choose to break the law, and not pay use tax, states do indeed have laws which tax online purchases including digital downloads, licenses, etc.
The only thing to me is that Pakistan is officially a US ally in this, so for them to turn over the remains of the aircraft to anyone else would be... problematic (especially since it's a free market and who has more money to spend than the US?). Random bits that went flying around the neighbourhood, sure, they're gone. But any of the parts big enough to need a vehicle to move I'd guess the US will be wanting back.
While a bit off topic I have to call poppycock. The US only appears to have a lot of money to spend simply because we borrow it from China.
And all it cost were our civil liberties, national character, and trillions of dollars...
Yeah, no kidding. If you figure the the reason the US is in Afghanistan is to kill or capture Bin Laden, and that bringing stability to the region was an effort to this end, this is literally a trillion dollar man hunt. Perhaps the most expensive man hunt in history.
Well I'd prefer them doing some research rather than being a clueless bunch of fucks who make their decision about my freedom based on a hunch.
It doesn't work that way. Before deliberating the judge provides the jury with instructions. These instructions generally quote the pertinent laws and provide definitions as provided in statute or case law. While deliberating, jurors can ask for further definitions, clarification, etc. if needed and the judge had discretion whether or not to provide the information. This keeps jurors from accidentally introducing the definition of "sexual assault" as defined in New Mexico when the trial is in Florida. I think one of the more common issues of what jurors have to deal with in a criminal trial is exactly what "beyond a reasonable doubt" means. This phrase has different meanings in different jurisdictions.
The US has lost sight of the value of that since unlike the rest of the modern world, no country has tried to invade us in almost 200 years come ~2013 (when the British invaded the US in the War of 1812).
While it didn't involve foreign troops operating freely within the Continental United States its very existence was at stake during WWII. Japan fully intended and tried to occupy the United States. There was combat in Hawaii and Alaska. Japanese subs operated freely along the West Coast and sunk a number of US, Canadian and Mexican vessels. Japanese built incendiary devices lit forest fires across the West. Naval action by Germany could be seen from the shores on the East Coast as well.
Using PACTOR III it is possible to (1) connect to the Internet. It is (2) unencrypted and not only (3) proprietary -- it's sole source is SCS. Applying the same logic which prohibits the use of D-Star, PAC III stations should be prohibited too.
I say this is simply ridiculous. It's not uncommon at all for a beekeeper to lose half of his hives in a season due to mites, foulbrood, starvation, genetics, poor management or any number of other known and unknown reasons. It's not uncommon for someone with two hives to lose one or both of them over a 3 month period -- the length of this study. The comparison of two queens is bogus too. The variability in quality (genetics) between two queens from even the best breeders can be enormous. Having read many studies about honeybee management I can say beekeepers insist on much better science than this. Proper studies involve groups of hundreds of hives; control for genetics, disease, management practices; and occur over multiple seasons.
Wasn't building the ISS, the driving force behind the shuttle's size? The shuttle is basically a pickup truck. The Soyuz is an ISS commuter compact.
The ISS was not the driving force behind the shuttle's size. The opposite is true. Various ISS modules were sized specifically to fit the shuttle's cargo bay.
The shuttle was designed in the 1970s -- first seeing flight in 1981. The ISS wasn't even seriously contemplated until after the fall of the Soviet Union. Thus, it couldn't have played a role any aspect of the design of the shuttle. In fact, before the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States began work on its own Space Station Freedom in response to Mir's accomplishments. It simply wasn't politically feasible for the Cold War rivals to cooperate on a significant international project until they both toned down their ideology a bit.
No, you cannot access the internet over ham radio, not legally. The internet is a commercial infrastructure, and commercial use of Amateur Radio frequencies is illegal.
While it is widely believed that no commercial traffic is allowed on the amateur bands, this is incorrect. In 1993 the FCC issued a report significantly broadening what is allowed in terms of commercial traffic. These changes are reflected in the current regs. Please see Part 97.113. Commercial traffic which benefits either the operator or his employer are prohibited. Requesting a web page which contains advertisements is just fine. Ordering a pizza online is just fine too (although using SSL is not). You can even email some friends about that old rig you are selling for $50 due to an exemption in Part 97.113(a)(3). Sending instructions to your stock broker or notifying a business client you'll be late, on the other hand, clearly are not OK.
I don't want to discourage you, but remember that HAM is just analog sound.
Just analog sound? Hardly... In addition to the vast array of commercial spec digital modes at the Radio Amateur's disposal, we use a few home grown modes: PSK31, WSJT, and WSPR. Radio Amateurs are an incredibly innovate bunch and lead the way in narrow band long distance communications -- North America to Europe for example -- emitting far less power than a typical cell phone.
Remember too, Morse is generally transmitted via CW (Continuous Wave). That's ON/OFF keying. That's digital.
While console access via serial port has long been a given on commercial Unix and network hardware, it never caught on in the PC world. Sure, there are specific manufacturers and replacement BIOS options available to allow low level configuration of a PC via the serial port but this should have been standard from the '80s. I truly don't understand why PC manufacturers never saw the value in being able to view boot messages and configure BIOS options via the good ol' serial port.
Terminally ill residents of Oregon and Washington have the option of ending their own life within the existing medical framework. There are strict requirements and a number of checks and balances, but my understanding is that patients who request this option (and receive the appropriate approvals) are usually prescribed a lethal dose of a barbiturate. The high dose causes sleep and ultimately death. IMHO, this is significantly more dignified than a gunshot.

So I guess its fitting that technology developed using Chinese cash would return to China.
It's a nice return on their investment.

How Allies Used Math Against German Tanks
And we teach this weapon of war called MATH to kids in grade school?!

When you store money to store it, you use 100s.
If possible, get 500 Euro notes in the first place. It's a denser storage medium.
Anyone remember IE6 on Mac?
Hey, I remember IE on HP/UX...

Study of Sir Isaac Newton is dropped in favor of examining scientific advances through military technology.
How can one understand advances in military technology without an understanding of, for example, Newton's kinematics equations?
I'm not the pope, but I'm going to have to put "intentionally giving people crabs" in the unethical column.
Since when is the Pope an authority on ethics?
And back on topic, the Brit. Navy is actually sending two warships over to the US to pick up people. I think that's pretty impressive.
I don't think so. The British Navy is sending ships to Spain to help transport stranded passengers from there to the UK. Brits in the US still have to get to Spain.

The cubesat platform has provided a means for quite a few orbiting radio amateur experiments.

I could see drones being used to fertilize crops but you'd be nuts to let large tanks of anhydrous ammonia fly around on their own.
But large tanks of aviation fuel flying around on their own isn't nuts?
What exactly do they mean by "twist". Do they mean to transmit information by modulating the polarity of the signal?
Ha! I was going to suggest Anderson Power Poles before Molex but figured few people would even know what I was talking about. Good call!
Phone and camera manufacturers should just switch to "Molex" connectors... :^)
This would be an interesting project. Don't forget to factor in Doppler shift which is not insignificant at 2.4GHz.
