    This isn't rocket science. In the vast majority of the world being "gay" is negative. Think about how much of the world is hardcore religious and how many of those religions permit homosexuality. Google's algorithms are picking that up. Sure, they can adjust for their world view but it's not a mystery why it came up with that conclusion.

    You don't need AI to parse a sentence into nouns and verbs and find "click" and "car". You don't need AI to locate objects in an image. There are only so many variations on the captcha tests it doesn't sound particularly hard to code for them.

    Folks, execution of a code is not AI anymore than it was 10 years ago.

    People that are insecure and vulnerable believe that they will somehow be the envy of their social circles if they just had the best bling on the block.

    There's something to be said about people that need to categorize anyone with different buying habits as "insecure and vulnerable". I'd recommend ruminating a bit on the utter relativity of wealth. Where do you fit in? What would a poor person in Myanmar say about your spending habits?

    The arbitrariness of the reasons given for firing employees en masse is now what is in the history books for them, and this will surly dissuade talent from desiring to work for a Musk company in the future.

    I'll turn over in my grave if my great grandson is reading about Elon Musk in a history book.

    Most tech companies do this thing every couple of years where they "realign their business" which is code for layoff any bottom feeders without having to do the paperwork and avoiding possible legal action related to a firing.

    If you are good I'm sure you can find a $50k / yr job. The problem is you'll need at least twice that to live here. Even at $100k a house is probably out of the question.

    Um, the V30 reviews are actually what got me worried about the 2 XL before people started posting hands-on info about it. The V30 certainly seems to have the same off-angle blue tint, and also a lot of reports of blotchy colors (which have *not* shown up in any reviews I have seen of the 2 XL, thankfully)

    Obviously there are a lot of reviews by folks of various qualifications. Consider it or not, it's up to you.

    I've heard a few times the display on the V30 was not good, but nothing saying it has the same problems exactly as the 2XL.

    I am even more worried about burn-in showing up just days or weeks into usage

    Then cancel / abort your order. They *all* have the burn in (or "ghosting", or whatever is the right technical term). I have a 2XL, and everything you hear in reviews and media is true. Trust me it hurts bad to admit that after spending $927.

    LG only manufactures it.

    So they only design and build it completely then?

    What are you suggesting that the problems are due to how it's mounted or connected to the display processor?

    Yes, excellent solution to the problem. While we are at, let's add a mechanical brightness slider, and a mechanical ringtone picker, and a mechanical keypad for entering a passcode.

    You just need to display full-screen solid colors and look for any "ghosting" of UI elements like the nav or status bar, or anything other than the solid color. There are a ton of apps on the Play store that'll do it. The app will have a variety of color options.

    It seems that the issue with the 2 XL is that the screen is made by LG, who have far less experience and engineering in the OLED phone market compared to Samsung.

    Except, the new LG V30's screen has none of the problems reported on the Pixel 2 XL. Oops.

    You're probably right. All I know is it bothers me when people lie to themselves.

    It's interesting that the way you define a behavior as "moral" is that it necessarily makes society better (if I understand you correctly).

    Do you like content? Movies, etc? I have to assume you do if you are commenting on this thread.

    Then yeah, not paying for it makes society worse. If you don't pay for it it won't exist. Couldn't get much more "common" sense than that. The only reason you can pirate the content and not feel an effect directly is because there are other people that ARE paying for it... paying for YOU to consume it.

    Those are all hardware features. Hardware is difficult and costs. Software is easy and cheap.

    Exactly right. It's more likely though they'd just get out of the business entirely. Even if they somehow managed to build an OS on feature parity w/ Android they'd have to figure out how to get devs to write apps for it.

    Google could put an end to it by simply not allowing it in the license agreement.

    Here we go again.

    If Google did that, manufacturers would migrate to another OS. If Google had those terms from the beginning Android would be a fading memory. No company (Samsung, HTC, and so on) is going to cripple their options by signing some restrictive license with Google. The only reason Android was a success is because:

    1) Manufacturers own all the source. It's theirs sitting on their servers to do with as they please. Google can't take it away.
    2) They have wide reign with regards to customizing the OS.

    Do you think it's reasonable for Google to manage the builds for patches, minor, and major releases for hundreds (thousands?) of Android devices?

    innovation has to come from somewhere and most of what Google adds to Android isn't originating from within Google

    You ought to go look at the activity on AOSP then decide where the "innovation" is coming from.

    Wrong, censorship applies to everyone.

    You might want that to be the case, but it's not. A private entity can censor you whenever and however they want within their system. That's why Twitter can block your account if they don't like what you are saying. It's why if you get up on a box of canned beans at your local grocer and start raving about Trump they'll have you thrown out and possibly arrested.

    So if Ubuntu or Linux Mint release software with a 'bug', those are the costs that will be imposed on them?

    First, are they using a supported Linux dist, with a support license? If they are, then it's back on the support company.

    If they are using free and open source, then yes, absolutely. They saved millions of dollars in development by running OSS over a commercial, supported solution. They chose to cost cut that corner. It's their fault.
