In America, from the horror stories ive heard, it would seem people sue for the sake of it, regardless if they dont have a decent case - in the hope they`ll get an out of court settlement. Now, i dont live there so i cant be sure, but ive a feeling thats how things are over there. The rise of the 'compensation culture' deeply troubles me, with the frivolous lawsuits which are flying about, in the face of things such as common sense.
the only possible use i can think of for a chair with darls buttprint on it would be to make a plaster cast of it, and sell it to linux users worldwide who want to give it a good kicking. Since they cant (probably) get the real one.
I agree. I remember when my dads p2-450, 128Mb was stupidly fast for me. Nowadays im used to an xp1800 of my own and find whenever im working on my dads computer, its irritatingly sluggish to do the things i want. No doubt also when i upgrade again i`ll find that my xp1800 was irritatingly sluggish for things.
im unsure about the wisdom of opening up a hole to the mantle.
correct me if im wrong but isnt the mantle under some pressure, and opening a hole will relieve that pressure and cause a large amount of it to flow out?
England has -always- had a rivalry with france and to a lesser extent other european countries. this rivalry got transferred to america when it was colonised. It doesnt have any real basis , it just exists. Its in the blood so to speak.
could just be another mutation, except back the way instead of forward.
if its the one gene being changed, then its got a 1/3 chance in getting the gene it had before back in the next mutation, assuming its this gene mutating again
Correct me if im wrong, but you`re only able to download the songs after youve paid for them yes? at which point the drm is added to stop you doing other things with it.
i honestly cant see either side giving ground. its going to be vcr vs betamax, or dvd-r vs dvd+r all over again. corporations rarely care about " whats best " , rather " what will make them the most money ". One side giving up for the common good, loses them money and so they wont do it.
"new functionality that will simplify printing from inside IE" in other words, theyve fixed it so printing from IE isnt as retarded? how hard can it be to print a page without chopping parts off
it'd only be viable* if the media was encrypted and a decryption key given out when paid for. Obv you couldnt have different keys for different people, and effective watermarking is right out the window
* ( not really , it'd get cracked rather quick i`d imagine like most DRM'd things are )
question: If its found to be unconstitutional - why would that affect it in the slightest? illegal obviously has an effect but unconstitutional is ( if i understand american law right ) used as a reason to strike down laws. I agree with your point entirely though, if peer to peer is found to be illegal its not that big a jump to outlawing the internet entirely ( in america anyway, i doubt other countries would be as daft as to do this )
the XBox is/was a success?
last i saw it was making abhorrant losses and was only around because of microsoft doing the usual 'Extend and Embrace' routine where they prop a failing part up with lots of money , then try outpricing everyone else out of the market
ok:) i would have put it all in caps to increase authenticity but slashdot doesnt seem to like it:/

The UN probably isnt the best place to take over from ICANN, i cant think of a decent reason why they should to be perfectly honest, but lets not get caught up in merely bashing the UN.
Sure its had its problems, and no political organisation is ever whiter then white, regardless of which country or countries its from.
Politicans in general are sleazy, and often prone to corruption - heck look at the US administration if you require proof. The scale in which big buisness has bought power in America alone is frightening, and i dont believe for a second its restricted to there alone - there are bound to be other countries under the thumbs of buisnesses.
Personally i would like a not-for-profit organisation to be set up, which did not rely overly on any one country and which had absolute transparancy in its accounts and can show that it is trustworthy to the public of the world, not just to any one country.
Of course its never going to happen but theres nothing wrong in hoping is there?:)

Of Canada doing something right, which american could not.
My congratulations go out to the organisers of this, and to the canadian people as a whole for having the stomach to say " enough is enough "
actually power is measured in watts. Voltage is measured in volts.
p = i*vsee for yourself
if i had mod points i`d have modded this funny :)
probably not from the player itself, but possibly from the headphones you plug into them.
april fools jokes are getting a little worn now. time to call it quits i think
if you watched the video you`ll find its completely unrelated to mars, rather about surveying asteroids. :)
regardless its still an interesting video
it comes from history primarily.

its a worrying figure yes, but at least part of that is likely to be from dynamic ip hosts: the dialup people and so on
