The theory of the big crunch is under debate now. Its my understanding that recent observations show the universe expanding at an increasing rate not decreasing. So there will never be a collapse.
> "if that light has been traveling that whole time toward us, how did we get here first?"
The current theory is that the universe expanded at a rate far greater than the speed of light for a short period of time just after the big bang. I think it was called the expansion epoch.
Not sure if its the worst launch in history, I have been though a few dicy launches myself, but their Java/JSP subscription app can't handle the load. I am one of those subscribers or I should say a subscriber wanabe. I purchased the game today at Game Spot but can't get through the web based subscription process which takes you to a server at the station.sony.com domain.
If they can't support people trying to subscribe I can't imagine how the game servers are going to be able to handle the initial load.
I have two monitors on my desk. A relatively new generic 17" monitor and a 15" Sony 100ES. When I have my cell phone on my desk near the 15" Sony the image becomes distorted and the monitor begins a high pitched whine. When I move it to the other side of the desk next to the 17" monitor nothing happens at all.
I bet that has more to do with the frequency you are running your 15" monitor at. Check the refresh rate between the two monitors. Change the 17" to the frequency of the 15" (if you can) and test again.
Take a look at Globecom Jukebox. I have been using it for over a year now. Its very stable and easy to use. It manages ripping new disk and has a simple interface for importing existing MP3s.
It can push a local sound card and multiple icecast streams at the same time. It also has multi-user support with the ability to set user weight.
I could go on and on. These were the features available when I set it up over a year ago.
I bought one of these from HSN when I saw the post on slashdot. I am a total sucker for deal posts. I also have an Audrey and two iPaq IA-1s for the same reason.
I spent alot of time looking at the existing website while waiting for my Zaurus to arrive. The best one by far, if you are using Linux on the desktop, is docs.zaurus.com.
I had been having trouble getting the USB networking to work. I ended up configuring a DHCP server on USB0 and modifying the/etc/hotplug/net.agent script.
It discovers your default route (I have a laptop that I use WiFi or ethernet on depending on where I am). It also starts and kills a dhcp server. Its killing the server because the stop command wasn't working when unregistering the interface.
This is a total hack, but it works well./etc/hotplug/net.agent/etc/dhcpd.conf
(--- Email/Message me if you want them, lameness filter wouldn't let them through... too few characters per line ---)
I installed openssh from sourceforge and a lot of apps from the feed at docs.zaurus.com. I bought a Netgear MA701 802.11b CF card. They are on sales (reads rebate) at techdepot.com until the 31st. I also picked up a 128 Mb SD card from amazon (also on sale).
So far its been a lot of fun. Its required more hacking to get it to work with a Linux box then your average user would like but thats the fun part.
I live in Portland Maine. I have met with former Governor King when he was pushing this program. My wife is a middle school teacher. I have listen to a lot of material on this issue.
It's unlikely the state will fund the laptop program again once the current lease is up. Maine has an enormous state budget deficit. The economy is getting worse and our legislature is making cuts everywhere. School systems in Maine are cutting all non-core programs including foreign language, sports and music. If they could have backed out of the laptop program they would have.
That is just totally wrong. No way anyone should do that to anything.
I'm disgusted.

Its not in the RSS. Thats the first thing I checked. The response came back with something like, you're not in the RSS but your subnet is listed in another database, ie DUL.
My step-mother called me frantically the other day because all email to her was being bounced. I did some checking and found that my subnet had been added the the MAPS Dial Up User List . The addition of DUL to the MAPS database means I am treated the same as a spammer even though I am not doing anything wrong.
I reconfigured exim to use my ISPs SMTP server as a smart host and all was well. Until I receive the following message which basically says that my server is an open relay.... Its not... Now my step-mother thinks I am a mail abuser... I can only guess what she think of that...

Thank you for forwarding this information to us. However, the bounced
message you received indicates that the sender is being blocked due to the
originating IP address being listed in MAPS database. MAPS is a database of
domains and IP addresses that have been found to have either open mail relay
servers or are spam friendly. Adelphia, like many other ISPs, has
instituted MAPS as a means of filtering spam to lower the amount of
unsolicited email that reaches our customers.
Adelphia is unable to unblock the sender of the email. The domain
responsible for the IP address being blocked will need to follow the link in
the bounced message and take the appropriate steps as outlined by MAPS to
have their domain and/or IP address unblocked. For more information
regarding MAPS, please see their website at http://www.mail-abuse.org

Freedom from ZeroKnowledge is also a great tool for pre-filling forms. It also is a good personal firewall. The pay services allows you to create anonymous and untracable connections to websites. It also has a load of other features.

Have you seen one of these access points? Putting a high gain antenna is hardly breaking any FCC rules esp since the Linksys access point has two fairly standard antenna connections.
> Does anybody know what the real cost of a typical Linux download is?
Well at the bandwidth rates I pay ($4 per GB), a 600 MB download would cost roughly $2.35.
