With the proliferation of cordless telephones in the 80s and 90s, most people today don't even remember that a phone can work without power. And those that do probably don't even have a regular corded phone around the house anymore. I don't think telephone service during a power outage is important to that many people..

Examining ICMP Flaws
·
· Score: 3, Informative
Nice job RTA dorkface:
"The ICMP flaw is in the design of the protocol, not in any specific implementation."
You listed flaws in implementations, none dealing with a flaw inherent to the ICMP protocol.
"However, the difference with linux comes from the unified community behind it: Thousands of distros, hundreds of companies, one kernel."
Thousands of distros, all with their different quirks and slight incompatabilities. I wouldn't call that unified. In FreeBSD, the kernel is quite unified with the userland.
"Maybe its just my perseption but I don't see the same kind of unity from BSD"
From the FreeBSD Handbook:
The goals of the FreeBSD Project are to provide software that may be used for any purpose and without strings attached...We believe that our first and foremost "mission" is to provide code to any and all comers, and for whatever purpose, so that the code gets the widest possible use and provides the widest possible benefit. This is, I believe, one of the most fundamental goals of Free Software and one that we enthusiastically support
That seems pretty focused to me, does Linux have a corresponding mission statement or focus?
I started using FreeBSD three weeks ago on my desktop at work. Every day I use it I become more and more impressed by it, the integrated userland and kernel are like a breath of fresh air compared to linux. In fact, I'm having such a good experience with it, I already put it on a few sparc64 machines I'm setting up for an NSM platform. For anyone who's frustrated by the million linux distros and their slight incompatabilities, I'd suggest giving FreeBSD a try - it's really easy to get into, and you might just like it!
Are artificial diamonds already used for industrial purposes? And if not, can this new technique be applied to that? Every time I buy a diamond-tipped saw blade I wonder if I'm helping deplete the worlds supply of diamonds, and helping perpetuate the DeBeers cartel...
After wadding through reams of horribly unfunny modded funny comments I read this and laughed out loud enough for my coworkers to look over. Too bad it's modded offtopic.
Think twice if you think this only affects the flagged "Exchange Servers." The big time farmers will continue to operate on the non Exchange Servers in violation of the TOS like they always have, possibly with less competition now.
If you were disappointed in EQII, check out this new game in development by the co-creator of EQ. It's shaping up to be everything EQII should have been. The FAQ (http://www.vanguardsoh.com/faq.php) is an interesting read and the forums are always frequented by the dev team, including Aradune!

I said it the first time this was reported, I'll say it again. If you're going to engage in questionably legal practices and spend $0.99 / song, why not just buy the songs for pennies a piece from allofmp3.com? I use the site all the time, it's great. Anyone care to comment?
If you're going to engage in legally questionable practices, why not just get the songs for pennies at allofmp3 rather than buying them for a dollar each, and skip the DRM entirely?
Why not just tell your custumer that you use "Debian"? If he knows enough to ask which release, I think he'd be less likely to cry foul when you tell him Unstable....
I understand where you're going with that and all, but, there's nothing stopping you from installing the lastest version of Mozilla, Firefox or . after you install Debian either.
I only maintain my land line now for my HD Tivo to dial out from.
bah. I only maintain MY landline so that my land rover can phone home for monthly oil changes.

-1 Redundant (followed by some lame analogy distracting the issue).
Try RTFA, MJR already placed blame on the software companies:
Blame the vendors who write and distribute insecure shovel-ware
I can't tell if you're trolling or not.

Sounds like someone is managing Windows servers!

I read the entire article, what you just said was neither insightful nor funny.

"Scientists have successfully replicated two cells in a petri dish. Does this spell the end for human birthing practices???"
Once again, another article covered earlier in the day by The Register.
And a million slashdot nerds cry out in unison: "but, but, I can change the name of the executable..."
Wouldn't a better benchmark be to compare a dual core setup to a similarly configured dual processor workstation?

IF the submitter took advice from a helpful comment, would the poster be aiding and abetting as well?
Does anyone else hate the word boxen as much as I do?
You don't see this issue in any of the UT's or Quakes do you?
They're called aimbots.
Then why make it front page news?
