  1. What about VCRs? on Pay-Per-View Downloads of TV Shows? · · Score: 1

I always thought that since people can record shows on their VCR and watch them later while fast-forwarding commercials, what's the big deal about downloading them instead?

I always thought of DVD sales as just icing on their cake. It's not like they cost a lot to print, and they already made their money with commercials anyway...

So, if I'm a TV company, why do I care if they download the shows?

  2. This isn't a new precedent on FEC Extending Election Regulation to the Internet · · Score: 5, Insightful

Everyone's favorite congressman, John McCain, and his buddy Feingold already got that awful Campaign Finance "Reform" law passed, which effectively abridges free speech.

But, that's only supposed to affect rich lobbyists and media conglomerates! It can't possibly apply to us as well!

That is something I also considered. I do have a Cingular phone, and I thought it might be some attempt at spimming me. My phone is pretty primitive compared to all the new fangled blackberries and camera phones and what not, so I figured it might be an attempt at spim, but I have no way of knowing for sure...

Anyone who posted an answer, thanks. I've never seen a number like that on my cell before, and I was just curious.

As far as answering goes, why should I waste minutes or risk a scam? Why even post a reply like that? A wise man once told me the only stupid question is the one not asked. And apparently the slashdot mods though it worthy of a green light, so plllbbttt

What a judge says, and what common sense says are very often two very different things. Don't like Microsoft? No one is forcing you to use it. Have to use it at work? Quit. Use it at home? Go buy a Mac instead. Or you could stop whining...but I suppose that's never an option.

Now I'm not saying Firefox isn't a terrific browser (because it is), but when someone suggests a browser that isn't IE or Firefox, why is there an uproar? You may think Honda (Firefox) makes the best vehicle, but does that mean Toyota (Opera) vehicles shouldn't be on the road?
