While reading the article something just came to my mind.
"The issue has come to the fore in part because of comments made this month by internal Microsoft recruiter Gretchen Ledgard, who blasted some of her company's managers as "entitled, spoiled whiners" who assume that everyone wants to work for Microsoft."
This made me realize something that apparently is obvious, but many of us haven't thought about. Microsoft people DO THINK they're the best. I don't know about it, but I've seen in some big corps playing videotapes to new recruits to show them how good they are (aka brainwashing). So, after a few of these, they end up believing it.
Now, I want to ask anyone who has worked for microsoft: Is this the case? Does Microsoft sell itself to new workers by playing self-promotional videos?
and save it into "test.txt". Then it's only matter of copying and pasting text. You can use the mouse if you want. results: Shift, right, ctrl-c, right right right right... etc.
It's not that there aren't workarounds. It's just that they haven't been found yet.
Once everyone is doing it, then the core pieces used to create the remix will gradually dissappear.
But then someone will take a bit from here, a bit from there, and inspire himself to write something completely new.
If you think human creativity will disappear with remixes, you're quite mistaken. Take for example 'Into the Corridor of Shadows' by Nigel Simmons ( http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01212/ ). And you'll see how much creativity can be put in a "remix".
Those who care can change it to Remove. It's that easy.
Those who care don't get spyware IN THE FIRST PLACE. They already use firefox, have their firewall, and often run ad-aware and spybot SnD.
But here it's the Joe user we're talking about.
Besides - who says malware authors won't disguise their malware as Claria's? (Expect a Secunia report issued in the following months about this exact issue)
Given the average human being on the planet, and their rather crippled forms of social and verbal interaction, why would I want to interact with something that acts like a realistic person?
To sharpen your geek skills in getting a REAL date?
To try to understand women better?
To fulfill your fantasy of Yuna kissing Tidus more early in the game?
Remember! This is a *PROTOTYPE*. I bet than in 20 or 30 years, AI is going to be much more advanced than now. By that time, games will be able to:
Synchronize voice and images with the words beng spoken
Characters speaking a calculated (not scripted) dialogue
Characters showing their *emotions* in their facial expressions
Characters possibly screwing up a situation, which leads to even more interesting drama
With advances in simulation hardware, physics-realistic events and textures, environment, etc.
Now mix that with different types of games:
Date-sims (w00t)
RPG's
Action adventures
Obviously, you need a little more imagination to see how games could improve with interactive drama. But I see nothing wrong with the idea.
You're treading a dangerous path there, one in which all software authors are held legally responsible for bugs in their code.
Well, Microsoft has been constantly notified of bugs in their code, and they've been neglecting to fix them just to spread the illusion that Windows is a secure platform. Many bugs in IE were unattended for even a year, until the first large-scale virus began to stain the flawless image that Microsoft had done.
And they wouldn't have innovated anymore if it wasn't for the competition (competition, which, btw, they drove out of business by using monopolistic practices).
Isn't this is equivalent to the CIA failing to inform correctly about Bin Laden's plans to bomb the towers? Think about it.
Open source software, on the other hand, leaves the responsibility of finding flaws to developers. After all, the source is open. With Windows, however, it's not. So it's Microsoft's responsibility to find flaws and security holes. How have they carried this responsibility?
When you're forced to buy $1000 worth of software belonging to a single company (because there's no competition due to patents), you WILL care. But oh, then it will be too late!
If we add that it is absolutely certain that the avalanche would not have happened if the kid had not thrown the rock, then it's clear who's the guilty party.
Problem is, the kid wasn't the FIRST ONE to throw a rock at the same spot. If he's not the first, but the FIFTH, aren't the people in charge of that mountain responsible?
Yes, but shouldn't Bill Gates go to jail for negligence, too?
Let me use this analogy: A kid throws a rock in a mountain, causing an avalanche. Turns out the guys who were warned about possible avalanches didn't do their work, like putting protective fences, blah blah.
So, when people die because of the rocks falling, suddenly a kid's the ONLY person guilty?
"Installing Applications is complicated" No, it isn't. It's different than what people are accustomed to, but it sure isn't complicated.
Oh, yes it is! Try re-compiling the xyz library or patch it because the app was designed with the latest version in mind, or because the version included with your distro had a flaw that was patched recently.
Seriously, linux has to compete against a system blah blah blah.
"Choose Linux, because Windows sucks". How about if we start using linux because it doesn't suck? Of course, convincing people that Linux doesn't suck is going to be somewhat difficult...
Even Microsoft wants FireFox to run well on Longhorn . Is it any surprise that everyone wants their latest hyped product to run FireFox?. This is like the age old - does it play ogg yet ?
I dub thee, the newest troll-inventor for Slashdot!
Is it just me, or does this 'story' from 'a reader' reak of being an advertisement?
First: I think it's just you. This isn't a "story", it's a QUESTION (the url is ask.slashdot). And being submitted by a slashdotter, links from OSTG are more than expected.
Second: This question is completely valid.
Third: I think the word should be "reek", not "reak".

If only keystrokes are logged, try:

shouldn't this finally convince Bush and Blair that WAR ONLY CAUSES MORE WAR?
"Oh no, let's invade Iraq, bring peace to the people and we'll be heroes woot! The world will love us!"
Newsflash: They don't.
Those who care can change it to Remove. It's that easy.

No way would I have Claria crap on my machine but it does appear that there are people downloading the trash intentionally.
Like Kazaa?
"Microsoft Tech support, good afternoon"
"Yur antispyware deleted me kazaa! It dosen't worc anymore!"
Well, doh.
If anyone here dares to welcome our new spyware overlords, I'll revoke his geek license and kick his first post to where Soviet Russia welcomes YOU!
That's the problem with going digital. Is it our fault that media can be stored in computers now?
Yup. This has been going on for a long time. Once a company becomes successful, kooks start coming out of the woodwork to sue them.
SPECIALLY if the company becomes more successful by crushing OTHER companies. DR-DOS, anyone?

If you've studied engines in cars, you could admire the engineering of it, how things fit and work in harmony.
Sometimes i've designed pieces of software and i like how they were designed so much that I call them "masterpieces of art".
So yes, programming could be called art.

That's what whitelists are for.

Give me a break.
That is a little like - "I was only curious about how much money was in the register, and how far I could run with it until I got caught".
Pfft. Tell that to Wynona .

You should be grateful. At least you haven't got the Dahaka chasing after you!

it amazes me people still use that thing. Scary. Nasty. Creepy.
Should be forbidden from php.
Ironically, didn't the Windows Logo Certification forbid people from using "system"?

As read in BBC news:
Man convicted for chipping Xbox Xbox console

(NOTE: extra-tiny caption. almost invisible)"The Xbox was fitted with a 200GB hard drive packed with games"
A 22-year-old man has become the first person in the UK to be convicted for modifying a video games console."
