Yes I read the article, no I am not fully informed on the situation. However from the article I read that MS has some software in the EU. There are some regulations in place, I don't know when they were put there. MS has been around longer than most Software laws.
But as has been posted, why are they asking for MS to open up? Why does it stop there? What about car engines, Fax Machines, Medical equipment, Calculators, etc. From reading the article something just seems out of place here. I dont think it is a ploy to make money, but if this were to happen in the US I would say it was a political move for power. As there is no way the EU can enforce this and they know it.
MS's automatic Bulleted lists are a damn annoying feature. #1 reason I prefer notepad as my text editor. Dont bring it to Ooffice. Dont know about you guys but I actually was taught proper formatting growing up. Which wasnt too long ago.
left with no alternative
Who wants to be the first to start listing alternatives? So you purchase a software, you run it, and find that you screwed yourself over by becoming a MS junkie. So the only alternative is to fine the organization into submission?
This is about as asinine as suing an open source company for making their code public...
Nope, they were the drives that came with the devices. Every last one we bought burned out, including the replacements. even the enclosures were worthless.
I will back you up on that, I am personally in charge of near a thousand computers on our network. The worst luck I have is with maxtors by far. We had a series of external drives that burned themselves out after a short period, with a light load. I can excuse one but had all 7 fail. Not to mention we run dell here and have a good combination of maxtor and Western Digital. I feel a bit of sorrow when I send a computer with a maxtor drive out, knowing that I will be seeing it again soon. Really hurts when I am sending the unit 400 miles to the site...
I am sold on Western Digital, 5 year contract, excellent drives, got a 10K raptor at home myself. Low failure rate in our enterprise environment. Cant vouch for seagate though, havent had too much exposure to them other than the dirt cheap 300GB I bought that was DOA.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. It is these theories that I read in the periodicals, the motions started by a select few that have me all riled up. For a good example check out string theory, a great theory, not saying that I subscribe to it, but it has a lot of good points and makes a lot of sense but until recently spent most of its life being laughed at by scientists around the world. I believe that people have so much investement in quantum physics that they refuse to consider that all their work might have been for the wrong cause.
As for information reaching textbooks and undergraduate programs, years may be a little generous there, you know as well as I do, a lot of the great explanations for evolution are not put in books. Yet a lot of the fradulent ones are kept there because of old views, see Haeckel's Embryo for a classic example. So you get a lot of fundies attacking evolution pointing out all the flaws because the flow of information is perverted by politics, scientists, and parents.
It doesnt have to be this way, wikipedia is a step in the right direction. Promote new ideas, dont crush them because they have a scifi aspect to them that you read about in books when you were younger.
Today it is all about who has funding and who doesnt, who has gov't support and who doesnt. Can you imagine the resistence to an alternate view of how we came to be? Look at the scientists who have been investing personal time and the finances involved. Not to mention the emotional aspect. Anything new would be crushed before it even hit the papers. Evolution got its beginnings because there was no other alternative. Not that it was wrong or right but because the theory arrived at the right time.
I think there may be more theories out there that dont see the light of day because much of the scientific community believes that any alternative to evolution is laughable. I am not referring to a form of ID here, just to the fact that todays scientists are a far cry from what they used to be. They used to be much broader educated, more open-minded. Today they are so specified that they cant think outside the box. Same thing applies to a lot of theologians, they spent so much time debating greek they stopped studying basic science. But yet each side makes outlandish claims in areas they know nothing about.
This is a jump but I dont think we will see any alternate theories come out due to the fact that today's scientists are about as blind as the justice system.
Being a Christian myself, I dont believe that my religion should be taught in the science classroom, maybe a philosophy course but not a science course.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with teaching that we are genetically engineered, or that an advanced civilaization might have put us here. Laugh it up but just because it is off of Star Trek or out of a Sci-Fi novel doesnt mean it cant be done or wasnt done
We are still pretty infantile in our understanding of our own makup and understanding of the world around us. But we are already working on ways to terraform mars, clone ourselves, and having a whole lot of fun with Bioengineering. Many of these articles have been on slashdot already and seriously discussed by many of us here. But once intelligent design is slapped on it it is ludicrous.
I agree, Once they got rid of the Ads, it became a better browser interface-wise for me. I was an avid firefox user but it does not play well with our iprism. I do wish we could take out the mail client but oh well I just ignore it.
Also, can people in this forum honestly not see why Google wouldnt have an interest in a browser?
Dont know about you guys but I think symantec is slowly going down the crapper. For the last three years it has been easier to remove a virus than upgrade their products. Now they want to put hooks out to the web to destroy the rest of your computer?
No I am not bitter at all towards symantec as I earn a ton of cash trying to fix computers that users try to upgrade symantec on. Or just plain uninstall. I can only imagine what this new service is going to do for them
My advice, Symantec, fix your existing products before you unleash a new hell on all of us.
I would think that the people drinking more than one cup of coffe in the morning would be the ones trying to recover from the heavy hangover from the night before...
I apologize if I offended you, I am not saying that mormons dont do well, and I am not saying that christians or jews or any other faith do not do good things. I also do not want to show that all mormons are ignorant, I am just saying that the religion in itself is a rather ignorant one.
I did not go into depth with the remarks because you are obviously an intelligent person and are aware of the statements that I made, if you werent ready to refute them I would have been very suprised.
You might want to become better educated yourself on whether or not Joseph Smith "rewrote the Bible"
I am very aware of what Joseph Smith was doing when he actually restored the Bible to its origional wording with God's inspiration, but I find that the easiest way to change christianity is to change their fundamental source of knowledge. And that raises some flags in my book. I for one think Joseph Smith was an extremely intelligent and charismatic man, but then again so was Hitler.
Another note is if you want to go historically, when were "God's People" ever punished for doing the right thing? If you understand your christian history you will see that every time that Yahweh's followers followed His will they were rewarded, everytime they disobeyed his will they were slaughtered and kicked out of their homeland. Why would a god give such a rough start to a group he had blessed and ordained as his people....it never happened before in the Bible. This above all in my study of the religions pushed me away from Mormons, because they were not consistent with history. And as you well know have a nack for "whitewashing". Show me a religion or denomination that embraces its history good and bad, does not contradict itself and sign me up. Untill then I will sit over here shaking my head at sheep. Even intelligent sheep can be duped.
You seem a decent fellow, If you are wrong, wouldn't you want to know?
Probably more so in fact - I don't remember the last time Americans killed and raped people for having PhDs but some of my own ancestors survived a massacre of Mormons
of the Christian denominations that I have to put up with, the mormons have been the worst edcuated in the ideas of history of any sect to walk the planet. If it doesnt fit in your ideology, just change the wording of history or deny it all together.
might I remind you that it was your founding father that rewrote the bible to better fit his ideologies
that it was one of your founding fathers that believed that men lived on the moon and sun
for a man that is trying to speak clearly about scientific method you are part of a very interesting culture that flourishes completely on ignorance. Might I remind you the saying of your leaders "When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done."
I am not saying these are your personal beliefs but I would be careful about lecturing anyone about history and scientific methods then mention mormonism in the same sentence.
Because I travel through BFE to visit family, I use the RF adaptor and can have my entire library with me. Also good for bike rides, if I can just keep the earplugs from falling out:)
While I do own an IPod, I would drop it in an instant if I could have a nice open source digital music player that I wouldnt be forced to use one program for itunes.
Perhaps if sucessfull this will start a new trend in digital phones, blackberries, PDAs, or any other portable device.
I would say he is wasting more money on insurance, wow, I pay around $50 a month for an Aurora and that is full coverage.
$400 dollars for a car? if you would just buy that used sedan for 10K you would cut your payments by quite a bit. of course since many of you spend 2+ hours in your car commuting every day I can see wanting to look good. The commute is something I will never understand, I love the fact that it is 15 mins to my work everyday, makes the day better when I dont have to spend 2-3 hours in a car. You ever look at how much of you life is wasted in a car? Is living in your town really worth all this?
$3000 for food? How many people are you feeding? I guess if you dont know how to cook and given that California restraunts charge an arm and leg for food (at least they did while I was out there) My wife and I (including eating out) never spend more than $200 in an expensive month.
$1500 for your vacation? Now that would be a nice section of the budget, going to a resort once a year or abroad.
Anyway, I have a calculator, now you go take a finacial planning class. Eventually you will have to learn to run a budget when you get older and need to get out of all the credit card debt you are piling on.
point taken.

nah, thats just our capitalist gov't at its best.

Just like any other great thing that comes along in history, bureaucracy is getting its hands on it and making it a mess.

Yes Any great literary person is, by it's nature, anti-scientific.
No mormonism, just did it to women and children and then denied the whole thing. http://www.rickross.com/reference/mormon/mormon78. html

dude, if I had mod points you would get them all. mod parent up.
Is there DRM on this Acustic Noise?
Didnt Aquaman destroy this on Smallville?
Does this mean there is a rootkit on the cruise ship, obviously these were the wrong kind of pirates.
Sorry Had to do it.
Is this just a publicity stunt to say, hey everyone else is moving to mac so you should to?
Because I travel through BFE to visit family, I use the RF adaptor and can have my entire library with me. Also good for bike rides, if I can just keep the earplugs from falling out :)
I will try that out. I really enjoy winamp and this would be a big + if it works well.
Yes, but havent created playlists, put my ogg files on or anything useful.
