Raising the temperature a few degrees changed the Sahara from lush vegetation to desert.
Begging your pardon sir, but it appears that is incorrect. If I understand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahara_Pump_Theory correctly, the Sahara was caused by simple lack of rain. It was actually larger during the ice age.
You're right. We should stick to burning coal, firing gas, building dams, and fissioning radioactive materials. Those have all proven to have no unintended consequences. [Dimsdale]... he used... sarcasm.
Actually I might agree with you on the coal and gas, but even with due respect to Chernobyl (way poor safety controls compared to the US) and TMI nuclear power is safe, and being the avid fisherman I am I don't see the horrible adverse effects of hydroelectric power. I would hesitate to blindly discount the seemingly insignificant effect of pulling energy out of something that has such a huge role in our weather patterns, when global warming (is that a proper noun now?) is such a concern to so many.
Why not produce an open source project that works similar to SETIatHome, but make it a search for killer asteroids instead? Use all those free CPU cycles for free time. I'm a skeptic concerning ETI, but asteroids..........
Great post. I was disappointed to see it modded as "troll". That's what you get for hitting these liberal folk where it hurts. Take it from someone with "terrible" karma, which is a sign of being on the right side of the issues.
Seriously, we're missing the golden opportunity to settle this whole God vs. evolution argument. Leave Global Warming alone. If Darwin (and the global warming FUDders) was right, life as we know it will change forever and we will adapt or die. And some other species will magically grow opposable thumbs and rule the earth. And it really won't matter to those who are left. If the other side is right, we may or may not see permanent changes, but the changes won't be enough to drive us to extinction... we'll just end up vacationing at the poles or something.
---------- Uh-oh... Did anyone think to file an environmental impact statement before pumping out the naturally-flooded area of New Orleans?
This all reminds me of the time they wanted to use Chinook (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/h-47.htm) helicopters at the US Army Aviation Center to blow the ground fog away from the heliport so everyone could fly.
the chimps were able to figure out and eliminate the redundant steps, while the human children routinely performed them despite their evident uselessness
Now I understand why chimps don't get promoted to upper management.
Yeah, but I bet you didn't hear that there's already been legal action because the OnStar function is blocked when the FBI is monitoring your vehicle...
I think we should just hose 'em down with pig fat, dip a sword in pig fat, and kill 'em with the sword. Make 'em unclean in their sight & take away their chance to go to their heaven. Of course, folks will then complain that we hurt the pig...
...you have the right to demand the calibration records...
Hmmm.... I wonder if they take volunteers to calibrate the breathalizers... If I drink a pint of grog and do some calculations on body mass, I should be able to predict the resulting blood-alcohol level, right? One could get paid to drink...
My uncle, now 86, has been a Ham since he was 18, and was a radio operator in the US Air Force. He can hold a conversation with you and at the same time laugh at the joke he heard in the background, in morse code.
Pretty cool how God invented water so that it won't kill all the fish and other life forms when it freezes, eh? If it were most dense when it freezes, even the largest lakes would freeze solid in winter, not to mention the portion of ocean that would be solid. Lakes and oceans probably would still be frozen at the bottom, from the last ice age. Nope, takes an awful lot more faith than I have to believe it just happened in a BANG. Awesome.
Actually the US does represent a fairly significant slice of the globe in both lattitude and longitude. Also when someone asks what's happening around the world it's pretty difficult to report on more than that with which one is familiar... typically one would rely on someone in another true part of the world to report on what they know, to get the whole picture.

It was developed as a supporting technology at a particle accelerator (CERN).
Funny, I don't remember hearing that Al Gore worked at a particle accelerator facility...
expecting the world at large to adopt its non-standard standards
Who am I reading about here, USA or Microsoft?
Sorry, couldn't resist...

Anti-American Drivel. And I suppose the US is the only country where these sort of taxes occur?
Why is this news? Microsoft's been using this strategy for years...

It didn't work.

Likewise, just because some believe something to be false doesn't make it false.
At one point in time, most people believed the world was only a few thousand years old.
The world is only a few thousand years old.
The climate on the planet earth is about five degrees warmer than it was at the peak of the last glaciation twenty thousand years ago.
Bull. Who measured that? You assume too much.
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
James 2:19
Bumper Sticker: Work Harder! Millions On Welfare Are Depending On You!
THAT was interesting????
Because, scientifically, there is no real debate anymore over whether or not man is impacting the climate and causing global warming.
Is too.

I switched to Linux, left the games behind, and went outside to play.

After all, how many computer geeks actually have a comp sci degree? Mine's Aerospace Engineering.

No, BOZO, the reason the David and Goliath made it into the Bible is BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED and it was relevant.
