Raising the temperature a few degrees changed the Sahara from lush vegetation to desert.

Begging your pardon sir, but it appears that is incorrect. If I understand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahara_Pump_Theory correctly, the Sahara was caused by simple lack of rain. It was actually larger during the ice age.

You're right. We should stick to burning coal, firing gas, building dams, and fissioning radioactive materials. Those have all proven to have no unintended consequences. [Dimsdale]... he used... sarcasm.

Actually I might agree with you on the coal and gas, but even with due respect to Chernobyl (way poor safety controls compared to the US) and TMI nuclear power is safe, and being the avid fisherman I am I don't see the horrible adverse effects of hydroelectric power. I would hesitate to blindly discount the seemingly insignificant effect of pulling energy out of something that has such a huge role in our weather patterns, when global warming (is that a proper noun now?) is such a concern to so many.

Seriously, we're missing the golden opportunity to settle this whole God vs. evolution argument. Leave Global Warming alone. If Darwin (and the global warming FUDders) was right, life as we know it will change forever and we will adapt or die. And some other species will magically grow opposable thumbs and rule the earth. And it really won't matter to those who are left. If the other side is right, we may or may not see permanent changes, but the changes won't be enough to drive us to extinction... we'll just end up vacationing at the poles or something.
